Definitely Portobello Rd in Notting Hill after market day, used to look like this every Saturday evening in the 1970's before the binmen came & cleared it up, Kingsland the butcher which appears near the end of film on the right also featured in one of the Steptoe films, Albert went in there to buy some steak for their greyhound, deliberately sneezed all over it and got it cheap!
This PIF leaves me complete cold inside, no people are shown just an abandoned litter-filled street while a powerful song contrasts the loss of quality of appearance from mess! If only in British society nowadays, this is played once again!
Apparently this was filmed in the mid 70’s at portobello road market and they just told the traders not to clean up that day so they could film this!!!!
Did anyone ever work out where this film was shot? Surely there must be someone out there who knows. To anyone who was young in the 70s as I was this piece is iconic - one viewing and the atmosphere flows back. Perhaps one of the crew who went out to make it would have the answer, if they are still alive? Believe someone on here suggested it was made in Corby, but nobody could confirm it.
