One of our employees installed a Kenwood DNR1007XR stereo into his 2018 Chrylser Pacifica, and he shows you how it works with the iDatalink Maestro to interface with his Chrysler UConnect factory system and retain his factory features.
Want a premium audio upgrade without paying car dealer premium audio package prices? The iDatalink Maestro is a factory stereo replacement interface that lets you retain factory climate controls and other key functions when you install a new radio in your car, like a Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, or JVC touchscreen stereo.
First you'll need an iDatalink-ready head unit: www.crutchfield.com/r/D2N
If you have a connected factory system, such as Chrysler UConnect, Ford SYNC, OnStar, or something like it, the iDatalink can help you save most or all of your factory controls when you upgrade your screen. You'll keep features like voice commands, Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, your backup camera...they'll work the same as before, alongside cool aftermarket features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Garmin navigation, and more.
The iDatalink Maestro RR, or the newer RR2, is the brains of the system. It's what "talks" to your car and keeps everything running smoothly. It connects between your factory radio harness and your new, fancy touchscreen stereo. Check it out: www.crutchfield.com/i-rYTVc30...
So yes - you can have it all, a great-sounding radio, sharp touchscreen, and keep your factory controls. The cost of a new stereo, iDatalink Maestro module and harnesses is way less than your manufacturer's premium audio upgrade...and it'll sound a lot better, too.

Sounds like you may want to double check your wiring and connections and even the radio's audio settings. If you got the radio here, you can call our Tech Support. Their direct number is on your invoice.

Very cool video. One question... In some current premium cars (hybrid and/or electric) there is a feature in which the exhaust sound is simulated by the car's audio system. When you accelerate these cars, the vehicle's internal sound system emulates/simulates the sounds of the exhaust. The more you accelerate, the louder the simulated exhaust sound becomes inside the car's cabin. So I deduce that there is prior programming in the car's OEM sound system. What does this issue look like when we change the car's original multimedia and/or upgrade the entire car's audio system? Is this feature lost?

That is a great question. With vehicles that offer this feature, many of them will not be able to change the original radio to aftermarket due to the integrated nature. If the radio can be changed, it's possible those features can be kept. Using an iDatalink Maestro interface is usually the best move when attempting to keep as many original features as possible when upgrading your radio. Depending on your exact specific model vehicle and radio choice we can confirm the retained original features to let you know exactly what to expect when upgrading your radio.

Thanks for answering. Currently (2024) what are the audio processors (DSP’s) for cars that we can consider “High End”. In other words, which DSPs can we say are “state of the art” in technology and resources?

Factory integration would be the key here. Is there a specific make or model vehicle you're looking to add a system to?

I am seeking a solution where the car speaker initially runs from the factory radio output signal, but switches to the amplifier output once the car engine starts. This setup aims to conserve the car battery by preventing it from draining power when the car is not running, while still allowing me to enjoy music from the factory radio, as it consumes less power.

We do can recommend gear that can work on a radio as well as amplifier power but we do not have products designed to allow you to switch between which is powering the speakers. Wish we had different news for you about it

I’m looking into ordering a system for my Grand Caravan through Crutchfield. How can I contact the person in this video directly. He owns a similar minivan and should be able to help me very well.

Thanks for reaching out. While we aren't able to get you in contact with him directly, we're happy to recommend the best system and installation items for your van. To verify, you have the 2018 Pacifica as well?

Did the van come with a factory subwoofer? If not, how many factory speakers did it come with? How many cameras do you have in mind? Are there any other features you want to be sure the new radio support?
