What helped me finally break away from exploiting too much nuance & detail, instead, sticking to the extremes, was losing my chair in the painting space. I only create now (in paint or charcoal) standing up with at least 6 to 8 feet of space behind me to roam around & look at my progress.

Thank you so much for your videos! After finding you a couple of weeks ago, I've been watching several a day and have found them extremely helpful in my journey away from photographic to painterly. Your explanations of how and why to make the choices regarding color, value, shape, composition, etc. are so clear and understandable. I finally get it! Lol.
