Fantastic video Pete. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge. Looking forward to seeing the turf type tall fescue area being renovated to Kentucky Blue in the fall. One tip I would advise, I had hard pan issues on my lawn and when I renovated it I used a deep ripper/sward lifter (20 inch depth) to break the hard pan. I was advised to run it when the ground was dry - as if you rip when the soil is wet, then the ripper doesn't get to smash the pan apart - it will just cut through the wet soil and not do an effective job. The result of Ripping was the areas I had which always lacked moisture and had heat stress before anywhere else - well that problem was solved. You will know if you are deep enough when you see the entire ground lift in between the ripper shanks. If you start seeing soil on the surface kicked up by the ripper (looking like you are plowing soil) then you are too shallow.

Great video Pete. Love those stripes! I've seen that hydretain has a granular product that you can put down to help with water retention at the roots. You should do a side by side comparison video of hydretain granular and liquid and another plot alone without any product solely depended on what the rain provides and see what kind of results you get. Love to see the reaction of the turf and see which plot stresses out first.. I know they don't replace water but for the average joe that has a busy schedule and can't water his lawn just whenever it could be a great product to help get you by when you're on a time crunch. 😉 keep the videos coming pete!

@@mburke1211 so its really doesn't matter then how much water you use to cover the 8200 sq ft lawn i have...so its apparently about putting down 4oz/1000sq ft of product over that 8200 sq ft? correct? @mburke1211
@mburke1211 3 года назад
@@richardwray797 yes, that is correct. Once you calibrate the amount of water you need to cover your turf area, you want the total volume of your final solution to match that volume (chemicals/bio-stimulants plus water). It doesn’t matter what you’re spraying.

@@mburke1211 so if your using 22 gal water to cover 10K sq ft... then ill be pretty close to using 18-20 gals of water to cover 8200 sq ft...Ill have to go out and spray my lawn with plain water to see how may 4 gal tanks of water I use then Ill know how many oz of Cal Tide I need for every 4 gals of water to cover my 8200 sq ft

Hi Pete - I feel pretty discouraged with my yard. I live in Central NC so it’s heavy clay. New build home so I re-seeded and aerated with Fescue in April. Some of the seed took but it’s very sparse. I’m thinking I need to bring in topsoil and spread it on top this fall and then overseed again? Currently the fescue is very brown and ground is rock hard. Any suggestions?
@mattgaither7403
@mattgaither7403 Год назад
Fescue is best planted in fall. The fescue you planted is too young and doesn't have a strong root system for the heat of summer. The dry soil doesn't accept water well either, so most of your new grass will likely die off assuming you don't do anything until fall. As soon as temperatures drop some going into fall, core aerate the lawn and remove all the cores you can. Fill the new holes with topsoil. Then overseed the yard heavy making sure seed to soil contact is there.
