This is another installment of the Keeping it Simple mini-series. In this episode I go over my preferred method to attach a tarp to a ridgeline by using a short length of cord and a taut line hitch. Thank you to everyone who watches!

this video together with slipped overhand knot should be the most important in the playlist of anyone heading out to the nature

I really REALLY like the simplicity of your work. I also like the no nonsense-no babble-straight into it delivery!

Excellent job describing the "tarp to a ridgeline" process. - Simple and to the point!

Fantastic videos-all of em. Only one nitpick which I got called out on ages ago and it stuck with me: "use" can almost always be substituted for "utilize". The problem with "utilize" is that it's overly formal/scientific and easily becomes over-utilized. But seriously this is one of my favorite no nonsense bushcraft channels. I love how you don't have a five minute run-up to the good stuff.

I like this more than the prussik loop and toggle that I have always used. Got to give this a try.

If you have your prusik and toggle already on your ridgeline...surely finding 2 pieces of chord and then tieing another 2 hitches/knots has to be slower, ...but it's another method for sure to learn...👍

I absolutely LOVE how you explain things! Clear, simple, & methodical. Thank you! I then watched your ridgeline video, that was excellent too. You are a natural teacher! Being a solo Mum camping newbie, I’m devouring a lot of camping vids right now for my first trip!, and I’ve *never* seen it explained in any other video that….when I make the “crossing turn” loop, for a slipped overhand knot, if the “working end” line crosses on top I need to make sure the loop goes OVER the ridgeline line rope! Its these simple little instructions that don’t normally get explained (especially if you’re not right handed) and it can make or break a knot. Question….since you explain things so well & I cant find a good explanation video…. how do you get the ridgeline higher - say 8 feet high with a tarp on flat like a roof (not angled)? I’m a 5’.8” tall female, but want to place the tarp over part of my camp site so the kids can play under it when it’s raining & I can cook under it, etc. Can you please help explain how to do that? Thank you in advance IF you are able to do it.

I'd put the tarp over the ridgeline and guy it out. That way the ridgeline is inside and I can hang stuff, plus I don't need any extra knots etc.

4:06 where you say 'one length of cord' .. I think you mean at least 4? One for the ridge line, then you showed two separate pieces of cord to attach each end of the tarp, and then there's the cord you use to pull up the middle of the tarp to the tree.
