I have the ones with the holes in them from Bunnings too. A pain to keep clean, a nightmare if you drop a small part and forget wheeling anything across them. These look so much better.
I got those anti-fatigue mats from RSEA Safety shop. Absolutely game changer for comfort. But they have circles which retain lots of saw dust/chips/shavings.
Thanks for the video I’m in the US the cheap mats we call puzzle mats I’ve used them not impressed. A store here called Tractor Supply sells rubber horse mats I’m going to try them. Thanks for the grafting tape trick and running the cords between the mats. I need to limit my time on concrete floors as I’m 69
On forums/discord/etc I've heard nothing but great things about Tractor Supply's horse/stall mats. I priced them out over here, and sadly they worked out about 2-4x the price of the mats I got. Stall mats would be great because they come in wider widths/on a roll, so you get fewer seams to deal with. Hopefully they help your feet too!
Cables between the matting is a great idea, will give that a go, nothing worst than moving toolboxes around with those tiny 38mm OD casters they come with
I've two types of interlocking rubber mats from bunnies, both are 1m2 One is a faux checkerplate design with a smooth face, the other is a strange hole pattern, but slightly thicker. Both are amazing to stand on, so much better than concrete, really huge improvement. The hole pattern does trap a lot of dust, but I like to leave the workshop floor covered in a layer of dust anyway 🤷♂ makes me feel more 'woodworky' and gives a strong placebo effect for me where in the winter it stops the cold rising up from the concrete. I'd love to get a couple more, but they were only $25 each when I bought them, and now are in the $70+ region sadly.
*dang*, can you resell those? If you've got enough you can probably fund a new tool from the difference! Thats a crazy amount of inflation on it. Years ago I had one of the hole-pattern-mats and the problem for me was I dropped a screw and found out about it when I stabbed myself in the foot. That was a mistake you only learn once 😅
Paul, have you thought about glueing them down? Also, getting some 1m x 1m squares of 10mm MDF to stand machines on. Will reduce mat movement too if there are no gaps.
If you wanted to, some double sided/carpet tape (www.bunnings.com.au/ideal-distributors-38mm-x-12-8m-indoor-outdoor-carpet-tape_p6656415 this sort of thing) will hold it down pretty well to concrete, while still technically being removable. I did that in the OG TWK Workshop for the first tile I bought, but as soon as I had two of them they more or less stopped moving unless I tried pushing them around.
I have the cheap foam interlocking ones from Bunnings, I wouldn’t trust dropping a tool on them but they are a tad softer underfoot, I’d pay more for better next time around
