loved the point you made towards the end... when prices normalize (and they will... eventually) people are going to remember which companies took advantage, and when choosing between a brand that hiked prices, and one that did not... the great majority will go for the latter. the market for high-end gpus, are exactly the people who care about and remember stuff like that.

I did win the Shuffle once, but it was an Asus Strix 3080Ti bundled with a power supply and was too expensive so I let go it. Then found an Asus TUF 3080Ti at B&H for less than $2k and bought it. The day before the return period expired for the TUF, I found an EVGA 3080ti XC3 Ultra for about $30 more than the TUF, so I bought it. The TUF is being returned (unopened) today. The 3080, 3080ti and 3090 FE cards really, really do better when the stock thermal pads are replaced. They're horrible. Even aircooled I've seen an average of 17 degrees (celcius) cooler memory junction temps (although the core sometimes goes up a tiny bit) by just doing that. Fan speeds going down from 100 to 60% under load etc. It's bizarre. Thank God it's fairly easy to do. Mem temps going down from 105 under stress to 80 makes a huge, *huge* difference. Paul, it's an excellent review as expected, but it wasn't clear whether you gave Zotac chance to respond to your accusation that they're price gouging. Obviously, there's no chance they'd admit to it if that's what they are indeed doing, but it would be clear if that were the case from their response. However, Zotac cards are assembled in China IIRC; we know that production costs have escalated there due to the pandemic, as well as the USD weakening against the Yuan because fed money printer go brrrrrr, plus massive increases in shipping costs (3x to 4x). Everything coming from China is getting more expensive, so raising MSRP might be the only way Zotac can stay in business. Plus, y'know, inflation. Or maybe, yeah - they might just be taking advantage of graphics card market conditions... 🤷‍♂️

over a year later and I'm watching this video to decide on purchasing this or not. Now that prices have stabilized and 4000 series has come out this card is listed for $880 on amazon. Crazy to think that just a year ago someone purchased this for more than double what I am now. Love the salt Paul, great video as always and I'm glad you made this even for the (at the time of watching) 118,795 people watching.

Couldn't agree more on your final point Paul! People will remember which retailers / vendors gouged more money from their customers in the shortages of the past 9 months or so. I hope that will result in folks choosing to shop with companies who treated their consumers fairly! A retailer called Scan.co.uk in the UK has continued selling products at MSRP the whole time - I was able to get my 3080 FE through them for £650 back in December. They'll be one of the first companies I'll visit in future for more upgrades or components as a result of that!

Crazy thing is the $1200 MSRP sounds amazing after all the gouging we've endured. Reminds me of the gas crisis several years back when it went from dollar territory to the $4 mark and eventually back down to the mid $2's which felt like a win at the time, but prices never hit the former lows and i think we may have the same thing happening here.

Manufacturers are missing out because they are using back plates but there are no thermal pads on the back of the memory modules so the heat just gets trapped under the back plate. If you put your own thermal pads on the back of the memory modules and turn the back plate into a heat sink you'll shave a good 10 to 20 degrees Celsius off your temps

I have a Zotac 2080 Ti and toyed with the idea of buying the Zotac 3080 Ti through the Newegg shuffle. The outlandish price had pretty much convinced me not to put my name in for a chance to purchase it, but the oddly lower boost clock pushed me the last little bit. I don't get it.

I picked up a ASUS RTX 3080 Ti Strix OC for $1300... how? I purchased a pre-built PC from a system integrator then sold the rest of the PC off. And I think you are right Paul, people will remember which retailers had absurdly high prices and will simply avoid using them now and in the future (I certainly have a couple of places that I refuse to order from).

If that card was 750.00 dollars I might consider buying it, at 1200.00 dollars it's a no sale, and at the price point it is currently makes no sense to me.

I live my 3080 ti. It has memory only on the front so it's easy to cool. Has half the memory of a 3090 so that means more power can be pushed into the core. I've got a founders 3080 ti with an ekwb waterblock on it with +190 on the core and +1500 on my memory completely game stable. 2100 - 2175 mhz core clock in game @ 380 watts and 48 - 53 degrees Celsius.

Paul, thank you for covering this despite the market. You must remember there are cars, motorcycles, bicycles, phones, laptops, homes, clothes, watches, cameras, and audio/home theater equipment that people can't afford, but that can't be a reason not to cover it, because computer technology is what you do and the other things that I mentioned are what other reviewers review as well. I love your disclaimer and as another guy said in the comments, people will hopefully remember which companies did the scalping and make them pay for it. I believe most AIB partners cards if this market wasn't crazy would still be between 150-300 over regular founders edition pricing in a normal market because Nvidia founders edition is a stripped-down card and most AIBs would add either more DP, HDMI ports, RGB, more fans and overclocking potential, but you true point is well made because even 1199 is too high considering where the 3080 founders edition is. Keep being true to who you are Paul, we all know you had nothing to do with this foolishness and you don't agree with it no more than anyone else.

I'm not an industry expert, nor am I trying to make apologies for manufacturers, but I wonder if the increase in MSRP from the 3rd parties is because they don't have a lot of actual cards to sell. For instance, if Zotac had 500 3080 TI's in a normal year (just a random number) that it sold close to the normal markup--say $1300--that would be $650000. But in this market, with chip shortages and therefore not as much inventory, maybe they only have 50 to sell (again, just a random number). If they sold at the usual markup--$1300--you get the point. I don't need to do the math. Anyway, I'm not sure if that's what's actually going on, just a thought

Almost just paid 2K for this card as I had looked up MSRP and it said 1,799. What I didn't realize before hand was that MSRP had actually went up to that. Zotacs tactics with price gouging just lost them a sell. Glad I watched this video. Deleted the card from cart and will continue to search for a better deal. 👍 Thank you!

thanks for the review Paul, you mentioned that it was not useful to review the card at that time. but I finally bought the card now. having the review at the time was probably not that usefull but having it avialable when the prices came down was great! I never bought a zotac graphics card, only asus and Ichill. hence when I saw it a 860 euro 3080 ti card in my price watch I wasn't sure if it would be a good buy or if it was the most crappy card avialable that was on sale. thank you for reviewing a zotac card!

as Gamers Nexus points out, that power slider is in respect with the base powerlimit of the card, which is what the maker of the card decides it should be and is not the same between brands. Back to you Steve.
