I feel the opposite way, kinda want to find one of my old dead cards to see if he can revive them. There'd be no use case for them though, as they're quite old.
a stink bug shorted my ROG Extreme Encore mother board. I literally watched it bounce off a fan. Into another fan on the AIO which splatted it straight into the mother board. system instantly powered off. after cleaning the motherboard it wouldn't get out of Bios, i installed a fresh bios. system would not even boot to bios. i called it ruined there and starting tearing it down. found out it shorted something hard enough to melt 1 single pin on the mother board. Its a sad say when you loose a 1100$ Motherboard but it did end up prompting me to upgrade from the old 9980XE to the 12900ks (which was the best that was out at the time). Good content! sad to see another person was victim to bug juices. i count myself lucky i can afford to eat the cost. a lot of people cant. i cant image the stress.
Same mobo. Luckily I managed to flip the switch on my power supply as the stinkbug was bouncing off the fans. Got very lucky since it's still running perfectly. I've since moved to a different area with less bugs.
I'm surprised there is not a single comment about how a random insect got in the backplate of all places. Sure there are empty spaces because of chips and whatnot, but being so close to the core where the retention bracket is, really made me jump that a random inscet decides to take a stroll in a hot area.
a friend of mine had the amp extreme holo 3080 non TI, and at the beginning it was running decently well, not great but not super high either, but a year later the gpu started going so high under 50-60% utilization, high 80s and hotspot over 100"C and would immediately crash on anything even with a 200mv undervolt and underclock to decrease temps, he RMAd it and then returned it to him saying nothing was wrong with it, of course he got angry because the testing metodology was just "used some titles" and one of them was oblivion listed on their testing, he contacted zotac directly instead of CCL (which was the site that sold him the gpu) and zotac themselves said it wasn't right, he sent it back once more and they just gave him a full refund, no repair or replacement, just the whole money back
same story with my EVGA cards cant beat the customer support! Somehow i have had about 20 ish ASUS cards as I used to and still do run multiple rigs and i have never had a single fault with any of them sense the NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 was a thing.
Thankyou so much for sharing the gouging of the core issue. I had no idea that was a thing!!!!! God damn, I learn several things with each of your videos.
yep looks like his going to be busy soldering the new connecter when its available, having to unvolt mine at present only had it yesterday after RMA, melted connecter after 9 months
@@martinmalone6324 the connector and the lack of the 4090ti are the 2 reasons i have no upgraded yet supper infuriating GeForce didn't listen to PCI sig (manufacture of the connector) when they told them it was bad and they didn't want to sell it
Man this channel is awesome - after way too much thought, I bought a Zotac AMP Extreme, another chipset, but read a lot before buying. I was wondering if this "AMP /AMP Extreme" series is any good, I wondered how other cards of this series with different chipsets are made. Guess it took some years to find Louis, to KrisFix, to NorthRidge to here to find your channel, nice! Hope your business is doing well and you're around for many years and a lot of youtube content; couldn't figure a better way for making graphics card buying decisions myself than to look at what the guy who has to repair them all day long has to say about them. Hope the damn YT algo does it's thing and puts your channel up in the recommendations of Louis's crowd
Well done! 👏 Youre the best content maker on this platform! On the point, exceptionally explained, very knowledgeable and skilled. Anf finallt no shenanigans, annoying BS with click to sub and turn notification on.. no product placement or adds. THANK YOU for being one of the good ones ♥️
do you happen to do vram upgrades too? I heard someone figured out you can double the vram on those 3070s but havent found anyone that offers this service.
It may be easy, but it was really nice. For me it would have been an impossible one. Thanks for your work. BTW, did you manage to get a job in another place?
What scares me is those "gouges" and things like air gapes in thermal paste applications. It becomes worse where there is no temp sensor in that area of the silicon chip
with all the gpu's you work on will you give us a graph/chart that shows us the vendors. that way we can see which brands are holding up better than others. Would be interesting to see out of 1000 cards for example. how many were msi, zodac, evga, ect..
Did you change your filming setup because the videos are looking much more blurrier than usual? streaming in 1080p and it's looking like 480p for some reasons...
Hey N-W, do you think that it's safe for an untrained person to attempt to cut off gouges with a razor like you did? It looked like a very easy fix, so I'm considering doing it if my next graphics card has gouges on the heatsink's mating surface. Also, was that isopropyl alcohol you used to clean the mating surface?
Doing it on the heatsink should be fine as long as you take it slow and take care not to add any extra scratches or gouges. I don't have the skills he has but I've always pulled apart my own parts to clean them.
That's where a "bug in the program" phrase came from. First computers were programed using switches to flip bits on and off. Roaches had got in and chewed the wiring, causing a short, which caused it to not be able to be programmed properly
You can easily determine the value of a corroded resistor. Corrosion usually affects only the contacts, so by gently scraping off the corrosion, you can reveal the resistive layer on the top and then measure it with a multimeter 😉
Years ago I found out PMY is the maker of nVidias Quadro line. When I asked why the rep said frankly "because they overbuilt thier cards" while I cannot say that now that was good enough for me once EVGA left the market.
@@nicekeyboardalan6972 Not really. There's no good or trash brands only good or trash products. I have a PNY 3070 3-fan and it undervolts to .85mv. Temps are usually 30-40C and it's easily the most quiet card I've ever owned. Anyway, I'm sure they have some trash products but their XLR8 lineup is quite good. I'd say comparable with MSI Gaming X Trio. They're also the only US-based AIB still alive.
Is it possible for you to make a video/list of the tools required to get into refurb and maybe a detailed guide even just verbally in what your using for a specific part of the cards your repairing
My 2060 super is dead I loved that card 😢 you are in the other side of the world. My husband bought me 4060 ti instead, and from zotac too! I hope it's not broken like the zotac 3080 ti in the video 😢
@@gateopssss I just asked him about the bad reviews of 4060ti he said he didn't know about it, he just bought it on a whim because he believes in nvidia for a long time now, even though he very rarely plays games anymore because of his work. And thanks, I have no complaints about my new 4060ti yet. It's very quiet than my old 2060 super.
@@aria.e If you ever encounter issues such as stuttering which may very likely happen on max settings on these newest games, dropping the settings to high should help out (unless its a badly optimized game) AMD RX 6700 XT is highly recommended to any gamer who are on 1080p and 1440p, it is on par with RTX 3070 and it's 12 GB of VRAM is a huge plus in the long run :) I wrote this if you decide to switch, but i doubt since you're happy with the 4060 ti, enjoy! It's still a very good card overall, just it's price doesn't justify the given performance
@@gateopssss hi, nowadays I just play games like diablo 4, overwatch, a bit of black desert, cyberpunk and a lot of story of seasons and never experience any stutter, well once or twice, also I never use max settings and I'm playing on 1080p monitor with 75hz. No Im not going to switch it'll be bothersome, I'll take what I have.
Bought a Zotac 3080/12 year and half ago for 650 euros. No problems whatsoever so far. Card is quiet, temps are good (74C is max I've seen during stress test) and runs all the games I play well at 4k.
Similar experience with my Zotac 2080 Super from 2019, around £650. Not a single problem in 4 years of pretty heavy use, temps are normally similar, but sometimes go up to 83°C during long gaming sessions, under full load. My previous card was an ITX form factor GTX 970 from Gigabyte, which gave me no end of problems, with constant black screens after ~1-2 hours of gaming. I'll definitely be buying a Zotac for my next GPU upgrade, primarily for the incredible 5 year warranty and reasonable pricing!
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that benchmark score. My MSI 3060 which is 5 rungs down the ladder with a mild overclock scored within 200 points on Superposition and only 800 points lower in stock trim. Not much performance gain for the extra $800-$1000 difference in price. Is that the Zotac under performing or is that an across the board score?
i just ran superposition with my 3080 non Ti from Msi and got 23789 score on the same settings as his. i think his score is so low because the core i5 in his system is bottlenecking the gpu
@boofygoofy3758 It's ridiculous to state facts? I never said that 3060's were as good as 3080ti's. I simply checked my score and even ran a fresh test to confirm my score. I anly compared my MSI 3060 to THIS Zotac 3080ti. I even asked if this was normal or just this card. I got an actual reply that stated his 3080 Non ti scored 11000 points higher than this card and even offered a possible explanation for the low score. Before getting all butthurt, or giving a half-assed reply, Try checking other reviews that show Zotac cards consistently score lower than other brands.
Hello Mr. Can you advise, zotac rtx 3090 trinity OC, pads changed to 2mm both sides (gelid extreme) repasted with Gelid GC4, 2.5mm pads thermalright extreme on power vrms. RAM temps drops to max 95 from 105 degree, (furmark). GPU max 75 degree, however hotspot is 95-98. Is this normal or whats the issue? Idle temps are 40+- no dust on radiator or fans.
Dang nvidia now making a 3008ti they must really be desperate to get us to buy there bricks of greed 😂 jokes but i think zotac really came back from making bad low quality issue parts since 1080 ti days. But good repair and guess the customer had some cola 🥤 while gaming to hard hahah
Zotac got the message a long time a go to stop making bull crap or you will be selling your cards on Ally Express! not main streame anymore. I have a Zotac amp EX and love it
According to your experience who makes the best GPUs from a cooling and overall build quality aspect? I wanna know where I'm gonna spend my hard earned dollar!! Thank you for the amazing videos
of topic question: Are the ASUS Z&() ProArtCreator boards a good purchase even with the current ASUS problems? I am an audio production enthusiast not going to overclaock and intend all components to be recommended parts.
Are you referring to the AM5 x3d chip overheating problems? If so, that was specific to their highest end boards, and only when running an AM5 processor with the larger L3 cache (x3d). That problem was resolved several months ago. If you get a new board, simply update the BIOS. In regards to the ProArt series, the main advantage of those boards is the 10Gb Ethernet speed (for fast transfer of large files). Most of the similarly priced 670e boards to the ProArt come with 2.5 Gb Ethernet connection speeds. Other than that and the aesthetics, there isn't a huge difference between that and another 670e Asus board. For example the Asus ROG Strix 670e. As you work in audio production, I assume you use an external DAC, in which case the audio codecs of the different boards are probably of little interest to you (some use higher quality codecs than others). If it was specifically an AM5 Asus motherboard you were looking for, that you weren't going to overclock, then I would consider the Asus B650e-e. It has many of the 670e features at a lower price with plenty of connectivity on the rear IO. I'd only pick the ProArt if you 1. Wanted the aesthetic (for an office environment) 2. Wanted the 10Gb NIC if you really want a 10Gb NIC you could also buy any other motherboard of your choosing and simply buy a dedicated 10Gb NIC. An Asus model for example would cost about $110.
@@TheSwayzeTrain So nice of you to respond. I agree there isn't much difference except the Thunderbolt 4 I/O on the ASUS ProArt , ,,,, 2 TB4 connections which I will probably need for orchestral sample use with a thunderbolt M.2 enclosure and 4TB storage enclosure. ~ I'll revisit the Z760e series, There has been so little chatter from the you tubers who do builds etc about any current legal or simply customer(consumer) reflections of the overheating AM5 chips calamity. Not even any noticeable comment or return to building with ASUS boards for the You tubers. The ProArt does have the single PCIe gen 5 connected to the processor with the 2 TB4 connects too. I intended on using the 1713700k with integrated graphics. They are better than what is in my now ancient Dell PC so,,, should be ok. Allthough another couple months and the 14700 will be out. Not sure if that's worth the extra wait. The Pro art also has the DDR5 and I'm wondering if the current ProArt Z790 will have heat issues with that. But, like you say , I'm doing audio production so absolutely no Overclocking . If you have any ideas about the new i7 14700K or the worthiness of waiting for the extra boost(supposedly about 21%) please, by all means share your thoughts and Thanks again for the info. Great videos too.
