We have a problem with red eared sliders replacing the western pond turtle in my region. I hope people will consider this when keeping pet turtles outside.
Good episode thanks for showing my snapping turtle pics and the mention appreciated. Yes many years following that female snapper. Keep up the good work thanks again!
Glad you enjoyed the episode, too. Thank you very much for allowing me to use the photo in the episode, and thanks for keeping track of such an amazing turtle!
Great pod! I’m a turtle keeper at home and turtle rehabber at work. Great info here. I specifically enjoyed the social media topic. As a keeper of many types of reptiles, I’ve been in many types of reptile FB groups. The squamate groups are usually pretty good. The chelonian groups are by far the most toxic. Turtle husbandry has evolved over time as we learn new things, but there are some heavily visited groups run by moderators that refuse to hear anything that doesn’t align with their antiquated care sheets. They delete/censor comments that might not agree with their husbandry practices and create a cult like parroting of dangerous husbandry practices. This has been my biggest turnoff to social in reptile keeping.
