Visited it last year. Excellent museum and great archaeological work. Proud of our history! Most revealing was the fact that the iron age in the South was as old as in the Ganga plains.

Thousands of years ago, King Ashoka and many other kingdoms across Bharat used the Brahmi script for so many languages. There are well laid out masonry structures at Mahabalipuram found in the sea about 3 to 4kms from the coastline which are believed to have existed around 6000BC, about the same era of the Rann of Kutch civilizations. These were discovered by an American archaeologist but the Indian government prevented further diving expeditions at Mahabalipuram. Diving expeditions were then carried out after awhile near Poompuhar and to the amazement of many, there were the same type of man made masonry walls and well laid out structures about the same 3 to 4 kms from the coastline. These civilizations were advanced and used a variety of tools and techniques. The sea levels rose and these lie submerged. Much work needs to be done by the on coming generations.

When we have 250 BCE Ashokan inscription all through K'taka,Telangana and Andhra,existance of a town in TN older by another 300 years is not a spectacular thing.Yes,it appears important because of the irresponsible statements of few earlier north Indian historian who doubted the urbanisation of India in the first millennium BCE.There is enough evidence of brisk meritime trade in the coastal area of south India in the later part of first millennium BCE.There for Kiladi is important but not spectacular.

i like to visit temples that are least visited by people around chennai in Kanchi puram area. If you too look closely, you can see that the idols inside the temple are mostly replaced. This will come to light if we carbon date all the temples (stone walls of temple) to the idol in each temply. then am sure there will be difference in age. as most idols would have much lesser age than the temple itself. not just implying there might have been budhist before. It could be some other god too. God's that we dont even know about
