(Hang on! We can do this ourselves. I learned something here. See below) 《Original post》 Can you add timestamps to a few parts of this video, so that one can quickly switch between the same parts of the song for both speakers? Currently you only mention the 706s2 startpoint in text, but you could add (several) "hyperlinks". That would be nice. I prefer the 706s2, by the way. 《Timestamps added》 LS50 starts at 0:01 706s2 starts at 7:05 --- LS50 organ part 1:19 706s2 organ part 8:24 --- LS50 guitar part 2:38 706s2 guitar part 9:43 --- LS50 piano part 4:19 706s2 piano part 11:24 Enjoy 😀

Let's say sound can be fitted in an histogram; the KEF shows a better balanced distribution throughout the bass, mids and highs so it sounded more natural. The BnW however shows an elevation at the bass and highs. Although the bass and highs are at superior quality, due to the elevation it sounds like listening to separate tracks at one time.

@tharbamar, we are currently listening to this demo through a 15k Marantz-KEF system, and there is no contest for us: the LS50 sounds more fun and the bass is just amazing in detail and speed. Those vocals are like night and day with the KEF being much more clear. The Bowers and Wilkins sound dull here, with a much sloppier bass. Overall it sounds also way slower. With the ls50 we were all jamming here. Then came the other and it was boring. Of course, there is only so much that you can catch though here, but I’m sharing our impressions, and I think a general idea of how speakers sound are possible through these demos, especially when compared to speakers you know well, and this is the case. Thank you for sharing. Great job.

now that you've mentioned it--- I listened to it again and confirmed, while the ls50 was warmer, the bass indeed sounds faster than the B&W despite the latter having the more treble/lively side.

My experience with B&W speakers is the 685 S2 and what i really liked about it was the soundstage which was very big, you could hear where each instrument was in the soundstage, the highs were also nice and detailed. The mids and especially vocals sounded a bit congested to me. I now have the KEF LS50 and it’s a lot better in the mids, vocals sound great on them and the imaging is awesome, it does have a smaller soundstage and also the highs aren’t as airy either but they are still superior to the 685 S2. In this video i think that the 706 sounds bright and forward but also it sounds more open and airy which is nice compared to the LS50, the LS50 however seems more smooth and easy on the ears and also more natural because it doesn’t have a boost in the upper frequencies like the B&W. The piano part sounded better on the B&W because it handled busy parts better while the LS50 had worse separation between instruments making it sound a bit more messy. It’s difficult to really understand how they sound in real life from a video but the sound signature seems obvious.

They both sound extremely clear and satisfying! Sharp, piercing highs/treble. The b&w seem to sound a little cleaner because to me, some of that mid bass seems to be a little lower on them, vs the LS50's, which seem to have a little bit more mid bass, giving it a slightly fuller, SLIGHTLY less clear sound. But the LS50's definitely have slightly more body/presence because of this. I'm a b&w fan, but my initial thought after listening is that the LS50's sound more satisfying. It's super close tho!

Love B&W. Had the DM6s over 30 years ago - they destroyed everything in their path. Bought Matrix 805s in 1998 and they are still my favorite. They are incredible, when driven by Pass electronics.

I love the build quality and minimalism of the black ls50s. compared them to the metas and it's nothing at all worth getting excited about. they changed the tuning a tiny bit dropping the crossover to 2.1 which is all I really heard and that was really more of a subjective thing playing on the expectancy effect to get you to presume they're better. the black velvetine ones are still the ones to have especially if you've got a pj theater, those things just soak in light versus reflecting it everywhere

The 706 has more of a sparkle from the top end of the mid section into the highs. In my opinion at least on this song the LS50'S still has even more of a seamless balance and superior musicality that comes alive from it's well blended all around performance. The Kef is still better. I wouldn't replace it with the 706's.

I tested both loudspeakers for a couple of weeks and for my ears was much better KEF and bought those. B&W was good, but they had not so big soundstage. The video gives not the right sound and there is a echo, but the music and reviews are still good and thank you for the channel!
@ichigobankai2343

Most people don't realize that when one reduces the midrange output the bass and treble become more prominent. The B&W's sound like a V shaped frequency response where the bass and treble are higher then the midrange. The Kefs could also have a tad bit too much midrange that is why it can sound like it has some mid bass bloom. If Kef lowers the midrange a tad bit by a few DB it would sound better. If the B&W raised there midrange a tad bit by a couple db it could sound better.
@Tharbamar
@Tharbamar 5 лет назад
Yes it is true in most case but bass tightness, definition and faster low frequency response will be hard to reproduce for LS50. Highs are easy to control than low frequencies in any space, even in live performance. Mid range is base on individual preference, most of British design small speakers tend to have more forward mids than actual music. Thanks
@ichigobankai2343
@ichigobankai2343 5 лет назад
@@Tharbamar There was another video of comparing the Kefls50 to the kefls50w and the wireless with the use of (fancy name for equalizer) DSP he says the bass is better and tighter and will beat the original Kefs any where you put it. This just further proves my point of lowering mid can change the sound of the bass making it tighter. Even lowering the treble can change the sound of the bass. Now I am not saying they will sound exactly like each other but by lowering certain peaks and adjusting frequency response you can make them sound "BETTER".
@haomingyang3245
@haomingyang3245 3 года назад
After hearing them for a several times I would still choose LS50. B&W has better separation, natural and less congested, but the only flaw is too emphasized on the treble which is really fatiguing to my ears. Also it's U curved, bass response is better, mid range neutral and slightly laid back, articulate but not as full as the LS50. The imaging is much better on LS50 when off-axis. LS50 in comparison, has the mids more forward (elevated at 2k-5k Hz), more colored, warm and full, while the treble is smoother, not as harsh as the B&W. With a subwoofer or the wireless version with dsp, I would be more enjoying with LS50 for music.
@JuanLega

Based on what I just heard, the KEF sound better. Also, they look better, and are cheaper than the B&W. The LS have already become a speaker that will historically leave it's footprint it the world of audio. The LS50's are an amazing all around speaker. Check out the new KEF R series if you get a chance.

@@JuanLega I too have both and my experiences shows that B & Ws are more open, detailed, and defined, while KEFs are more focused. If you're only listening to You Tube it will not be that distinct. Besides, the rest of your equipments are major factors, too! Overall though, the basic sonic signatures of both brands are somewhat similar-- 'British sound'-- which is my personal preference. At the end though, tastes varies from person to person, which is fine.

@Justwantahover
@Justwantahover 3 года назад
Yes they do seem to have more treble. My speakers are bright and I prefer the more treble B&W but the KEFs have more control in the med (I reckon). The organ on the B&Ws is colored and a bit muddy compared to the KEFs organ sound. There seems to be a gap in the treble/med on the B&Ws, compared to the KEFs. The organ lacks texture yet there is good high treble output, whereas the KEFs are a bit muffly for me (only right up top). And the B&Ws are muffly in the voice and organ.
@linkeddevices

@@Justwantahover kefs always been famous for their smooth mids. ever since the LS3 they learned that capturing the human voice is the real goal and once you get that all else falls into place. our ears are more discerning of human voices than anything else which is why they opted to invest all their r and d into the Uni Q to begin with. the holography adds so much to the striking realism

I had trouble with the 706 S2 predecessor the CM5 S2 in the lower mids/bass department. It had a nice full sound but at times, in my room, at higher volumes, it became unruly. I recognize a bit of this in the sound clip but THAT boring song makes just about any speaker sound thumpy so it's hard to tell if B&W have improved that aspect on the 706 S2. The treble on the other hand was one of the best I'd heard in that price range. I'm about to borrow a pair for home trial as a possible replacement for my Totem SKYs which are nice but have trouble pressurizing my gigantic living room in off axis listening. Will report back when I get a chance. There are so many other ''off the beaten path'' speakers I'd like to try but they're just not easily available for home demo.

I am used to listening to speakers that let you hear everything , if it's good it sounds good, if it is less than perfect, it sounds like nothing... I don't want a speaker to 'colour' the sound and make all sound material sound more or less the same. And yes, I have studio monitors in my living room!

The Ls50 is much more natural. The mids on the B&W sound sucked out and hollow. The KEF is for music lovers who want to concentrate on the music, and the B&W is for "sound" lovers who want to listen to the gear more than the music. The guitar solo at the 3 minute mark is especially good for hearing this. It's much fuller on the KEF, and really thin and shrill on the B&W

The B&W's sound much better. However, they are a bit too bright. Listen to the irritating sibilants in her voice. They also lack richness in the mid range. Ah right. My valve amp, that I built myself, was an ultralinear push pull design using 6L6, 6SN7 and ECC83. It worked fine at the time, 1971. Was my lack of experience the cause of my ultimately replacing it with a Rogers Ravensbourne which sounded far better on my Leak 2060 speakers?

@@tomwebb7091 I hate sweeping generalizations about tubes vs solid state because great arguments can be made for both. I stand by my recommendation of solid state for the LS50s but I should add that it’s gotta be a quality design vs a cheap plastic junk with a myriad of switches and buttons. Those speakers are small but they need horsepower to hear what they’re capable of.

I d prefer B&W, they are open and clear in high notes, but KEF has more correct sound stage and deeper bass. B&W 's upper mid sounds as if coming from another domain ,not in correct axis ?

not a signifiance sound difference. But looking into the price, i would rather save that money to get a better tube amplifier. With or without tube amplifier, that really make huge different.

What stands do you use in the setup shown in this video? The 706 S2 look great on the four pole design but the original accessory of B&W FS-700 S2 looks different and is pretty expensive. The costs need to be considered since a rigid stand with the appropriate height and great look of course is crucial for optimum sonic performance.

Everybody gets 5 stars on your review, and that equal's zero credibility! Ratings scales of eg; 4.4/5 or say for eg; 8.9/10 are more accurate. Make your rating system more accurate, otherwise how do you grade the B&W 800 series......5 stars would be crazy as you leave no room for improvement sadly. By the way the B&W 706 S2 (9.4/10) are better than the Kef LS50 (9.1/10).
@Tharbamar

@@Tharbamar in a previous review you said you sold your LS50's because the B&W were better. Now you are doing a review stating the opposite. Very confusing to your audience. Maybe just call your channel "The LS50- 5 Star Show"
@Tharbamar
@Tharbamar 5 лет назад
You misunderstood me, B&W 706 S2 is my current favorite speaker and my rating is always be the same for KEF LS50 since 2012, I can change my preference but I will not change my rating because rating is base on performance of the speakers not entirely base on personal preference. I diid not make any confusion, you speak without knowing someone really well and try to push your idea of rating system as well, there is no such a thing as 10 point rating review that works better than five stars rating system. Everything is base on price to performance not base on comparing one to another, looks like you're causing your own confusion not by me.
