Rishi Sunak's really having an awful run-in to Christmas, and Keir Starmer has to pop up to make it that bit worse for him. #pmqs Subscribe to our new podcast now, or you're a silly goose: linktr.ee/pubcast
And borrowing to invest is perfectly sensible. The Tories have borrowed massively, and just funnelled it all to their mates, they have literally nothing to show for it, other than richer rich people. The Tories are the conduit by which money flows from the poor to the rich, that's it, that's all they do.
Countries are supposed to operate on a debt. What they're not supposed to do is borrow shedloads of money and flatly refuse to do anything actually helpful with it
And to be precise, that is an 85% increase in the numbers recorded just three years earlier. But the curve is reversing in 2023, so this is not really an upward trend. However, 1,300 is just unacceptable even in war times.
I was a teenager when the tories took over. EVERYTHING since then has dramatically declined in quality and quantity. Not a single thing they have done has benefitted me or any of my peers in any way shape or form. Everything positive we did have has been or is in process of being sold off. We never completely recovered from the global market crash in the late 2000s and unless something changes very quickly, i see this country regressing to being a 3rd world island overrun by crime and poverty. Not far off now to be honest.
@@trevorgilbert7284 At 45, I totally agree. No other government has come close to this combination of nastiness, corruption and the continuing gaslighting of an entire nation. I left in 2017. It was the best decision of my life, but I still look on in horror, westwards, at the country I always thought would be home forever.
Less homeless? Less poverty? What planet is Sunak on? More construction? Not for those who need it. Absolutely shameless. The Tories really have reached news lows.
On his planet there are only wealthy twats like him , no doubt buying up foreclosed homes and demolishing and redeveloping them into luxury studios for 5 grand a month. The man is not only on a different planet , he's in another universe....
It’s the usual Tory way. Their idea of them brining these things down is “yes, yes, we’re the ones who have sent all these things though the roof over the past decade, but it’s just not quiet as bad as we made it at one stage earlier”.
All he does is deflect deflect and deflect again, he boasts about halving inflation but neglects to mention that that was caused by his own party’s policies and has only gone down because global fuel prices have fallen. He lies and lies making bogus claims and childish irrelevant insults, the man is absolutely pathetic
8:47 this is the nail in the coffin for sunak. He could’ve acted with; integrity, accountability and respect, he went for another petty attack… really shows the state of our government.
HOW CAN THE PEOPLE IN GOVERNMENT LAUGH AND JOKE, WHEN THIS COUNTRY IS COLLAPSING AROUND THEM. PEOPLE ARE DESPERATELY STRUGGLING.THEY ARE PLAYING WITH THE MOST PRECIOUS THING WE HAVE AND THAT IS OUR LIVES.
Starmer is trying to appear approachable and likeable, while making Sunak appear out of touch and without humour. I get the impression that he has started getting some training on his public image as he seems to be getting better at this.
Bunch of complete idiots The government won't help Christians celebrate Christmas because they are frightened of other religions complaining about us enjoying birth of our lord Jesus Christ 🙏🙏
Tories when inflation increases; "This is a global problem, nothing to do with us!" Tories when inflation decreases; "Look at what a great fucking job we've done!"
kier slayed me with " they obviously found the donkey for their nativity scene....the search for 3 wise men might take little longer" that made me laugh out loud as the kids say
It’s simple - Parliamentary Etiquette. When you cannot say “the right honourable gentleman lied”. You can get away with anything. Over the past year I’ve seen 11 separate incidents where an MP clearly stated another MP lied and those calling out lies were reprimanded. It’s shameful and dishonours the house and what it should stand for.
They don't give a damn. People are dieing on nhs wait lists, can't keep warm and even essentials are re so expensive. I went to the supermarket to get the cheap brand own stuff, some of it has tripled in price. My gas bill has tripled. The tories are corrupt greedy liars
Sunackereed just across as a petulant johnny no-friends at public school. Even the tories found his desperation to win a point CRINGE 😳towards the end.
@@Lummy62 Yea! So how come we're all much poorer than we were 15 years ago? Any manipulation of the figures is always belied in the currency value, currently way down from 2015 along with the perception of the "outside" world. Not all of us are taken for fools! Enough of their propaganda and blatant lies.
Just remember Central government sets the funding for Wales, therefore if schools are underperforming in Wales the first port of call should be to the government restricting funding and then blaming others.
Starmer did him like a kipper in the final question: offered Sunak the chance to put aside politics and say Happy Xmas but the pip-squeak PM couldn’t resist.
@@jjefferyworboys8138 Sunak is a boy that never had to grow up. He learned responses and regurgitates them, by searching through the catalog of answers in his head, that he had the privilege to learn throughout his wealthy life.
In theory yes. In reality, no. Parliament has a stupid system where you can't accuse someone of lying, you have to say they "unintentionally said the wrong thing" or something similar and give them a chance to correct the record. There is no consequence for if said MP doesn't then correct the record. You are more likely to be punished for calling someone a liar than being a liar.
They all lie. All of them. Conservative labour all the same mould. Both have been in power at some point over past 80 years. And still nothing sorted out. However if I had a choice. It wouldn’t be labour.
Probably but they are not in power , Sunak got the brass neck cheek of boasting 20 ,000 more police , when his government cut police numbers by 24 ,000 !!!

It’s all an embarrassing pantomime, no idea how this is our system in this day and age. How does this playground he said she said help anyone? You can lie but can’t be called a liar. What a complete farce.
I actually hate how Sunak literally deflects on any problems the UK has, and keeps saying how great everything in the UK is great, when it's obviously not. It's utterly tone death.

I work at QA Hospital in Portsmouth in the Gerontology department, I can assure you, no party, system of government could even print enough money to have a fully functioning operating Hospital to meet the demands of this country! The country needs people to stop being lazy and dependant for once. Take responsibility of their own health and stop pretending or living off false hope. If the nation had a BMI that is recommended, admissions to hospital would drop by 45%, this includes diabetes, stroke and heart attack.
and how will the labour be any different? what exactly the govenment can do? just more money? even more funding needs to go with new laws and public hearing for approval and nothing concrete can happen in 4-5 years. this is a democratic country not a dictatorship like China and Russia which the president gives one order and results achieved tomorrow.
Have you checked out the state The NHS is in LABOUR controlled WALES ? Time you have to wait for your second appointment..... there will be a Labour Government in The UK. Sorry, I know how very painful it can be.
@@yofinance1777The fact that the average UK citizen is in their 40's, there are 11 million over 65's and social care is buggered probably doesn't help either.
Just like here in the U.S. there is a nasty brand of regionalism happening. The state of California is a punching bag for the Right and the state of Florida is a hellscape for the Left. Citizens are actively hoping for bad things to happen to folks who live in states led by their political opponents. To see the PM (supposedly the leader of all the UK) gleefully mentioning the poor performance of the students in Wales over the students of England is very relatable to US politics.
You do realise the PEOPLE voted his party in? Doesn't matter who the face of the part is - they still read from the party hymn sheet. Do you genuinely think Labour or anyone else could do better? Labour are bit by bit destroying Wales so what makes you think they could manage a nation of 66m people if you believe Labour is the answer? I don't personally side with any political party because they're all self serving but people who ask for referendums need to have a long look at themselves - if you had a good paying job with the best benefits package known to man would you want to make it easy for someone to take it from you?
@JudeTheRU-vidPoopersubscribe Boris was just the face of the group then just like Rishi is now - being PM doesn't mean they make all the decisions it just means they get their names muddied when the Party gets it wrong .

The damage that elderly people are causing in the world as we speak is nothing other than global irrationality and madness. The future should not be allowed to be set on a road of chaos and destroying what has been achieved for humanity. Making it illegal for elderly to be in charge everywhere is the problem. It’s well known that both men and women after loosing their youth and hormones and health after change of life period from 50 onwards are angry, bitter, psychological issues from not coping as before add to this the PTSD from the traumatic experiences of their life and you have very dangerous men and women that should not have the power to affect the future of humanity. Let them retire immediately everywhere.

WONDERFUL.... to see this unelected, entitled, Prime Minister...... RATTLED.😊 His ancestors are from The Punjab. AND I am a life long Conservative Voter.
What’s really telling is that Starmer is able to quote figures and statistics, while Rishi makes bold claims without any evidence to back them up. Starmer gives matter-of-fact testimony, while Rishi leans forward like a sneering schoolboy. I can’t say I particularly like Starmer, but given their respective conduct in parliament and Rishi’s utterly shambolic conduct in government I can definitely say who I’d trust more to run the country from the next election.
Rishi can't help but be petulant whenever he feels he's being challenged. An absolute failure as a PM and someone who desperately needs putting the dustbin of history ASAP.
@@robbiecoleuk The funniest thing about that image is that he’s simply too tiny to be able to climb out again - I can just imagine his shiny little shoes sticking out of the top of the bin and wiggling impotently 😂.
Dear Santa. For Christmas, I'd like the Tories to have a little bit of damn humility. I'd like to see, that when faced with their failures, that they would acknowledge them instead of crowing about how good a job they're doing. That is all.
It's genuinely hilarious how Sunak's answer to everything is 'what are you talking about, everything is fine and the Tories have been fantastic these past (nearly) 14 years. I really don't think that's going to wash come the election...

Thank you toxRishi Sunak for delivering new houses to investors and greedy landlords it does really help the working families who are clearly couldn't afford those on the salary they are working for bravo
my favourite part is when starmer stretches out a hand to sunak at the end and gives him a chance to look like an actual statesman and then sunak spits in his face
Exactly. If a house, or any item, is beyond the ability of someone to procure or access, it doesn't exist to them tangibly. The vast majority of houses being built now are to create an investment, not a home. Their sole function is utilize the necessity of a place to live to syphon off 50% of people's earnings into the pockets of those already wealthy enough to buy the property. In turn this makes them even more wealthy, in a position to buy even more property and so perpetuating, compounding and ensuring the cycle will continue. Having such a large portion of their earnings pillaged by a system which has installed itself purposefully to do so ensures the vicious circle will never be broken free from. Every 'normal' person who buys their own home is seen as nothing more than a slain cash-cow to these parasites. It is in their interests that affordable and social housing is suppressed. We need a government that will dismantle this norm, as it amounts to human farming.
@@jjefferyworboys8138 Because people need to live somewhere & it used to be done, until that BLEEB came along & sold of the British assets. Trickle down NEVER worked, Maggie couldn't perhaps have known that, so i do grant her that she was more or less honest about her politics. But the current tories KNOW that they are thieves. Proper government investment is needed & some laws that prevent the tories of selling the family silver should they ever get into power again.
It's easy to criticise, any idiot even a Labour leader can do it. The real test is ability to take it should he become the next PM. I suspect he will fail spectacularly.
So, this light-hearted circus goes on, whilst the cost of living is making families so poor that they are having to use food banks and not being able to afford presents for their children this Christmas, but all these MPs are having a good time - so that's OK then!
And ridiculously confident. Asking open, unframed questions like last week's "How's that going?". And this week's first non-question. It's saying to little Rishi "you can say anything you like, it won't matter".
One fundamental problem with the Tory party is that a great number of them have experienced such privileges throughout their lives. Born into wealth, private education, jobs lined up for them through family and friends…I could go on. Unfortunately though, and through no fault of their own, most of them will never in their lives experience poverty, the struggle to pay their bills, unaffordable housing, food banks, having to wait weeks for a doctors appointment etc etc. How can you possibly think that a government running our country can empathise and understand the majority of our country’s day to day living struggles? They simply can’t. Sadly, they never have and never will experience the difficulties themselves, they are the privileged few which is not the majority. Remember the news footage shown of Sunak not knowing how to scan a barcode at a self checkout till? 😳
an accountant friend once told me that every accountant should run a corner shop for a while as it teaches you reality. Perhaps politicians should have to live in poverty for while so they see reality.

Regardless, debt as a percentage of GDP is a better measure for making comparisons over time. Looked at this way, debt (excluding public sector banks) rose from 65% of GDP in May 2010 to a peak of 86% in September 2017, before falling back to 83% as of March 2019.
Why should a far far right Indian Hindu elected by the Tory MPs as PM care about the country of UK and the people?, when he was not elected by the people of UK?, his reforms will never work in UK, as he holds dear to his heart India, a country that was destroyed by Britain under the colonial British rule. The Tory MPs who elected Priti Patel, Suella Braverman and Rishi Sunak, in any positions as their representatives, should think twice, before making the same mistakes again

Rishi loves his 'record numbers' line and comparing things to labour 13 years ago. Regardless of what the numbers are, it's not enough. I'm paying record numbers for my commute to work - doesn't mean it's getting better.
They should have to produce evidence when they claim to have made stats go up or down. Sunak would be stuck for anything to say at all, given he's done Sweet FA for us and the country but everything for himself.
Its very interesting to watch Penny Mordant in these situations - she hardly moves or speaks. She seems to be distancing herself from Sunak's chaos. One eye on a leadership contest anyone?

It made him Angry that he gave the best years of his life for these politicians to behave like this. He was one of the lucky ones that came back. It’s a shame that our politicians can’t at least act professional and show gratitude to the people of the UK who have (past and present) gone about their business in a dignified manner. I also remember in the past when people said they weren’t going to vote this was looked upon as an insult to those who gave their lives for our freedom. I now think it’s an insult if you do vote……disgraceful behaviour!!!!!

To be fair, they are also pretty good at getting the rest of us to buy their second and third homes while they sit on those fancy benches making animal noises at each other.
Looking at the old condition of the UK, now the people of the UK are also making a lot of progress. If a country devastated by Corona wants to live so happily, isn't it because there has been progress?. Do not blame. Honorable Prime Minister Rishi Sunak needs to be congratulated
Neither was the result of government policy, both the increase and reduction in inflation were largely the result of external factors. So if they are blamed for one, they may as well take credit for the other.

All this is shameful, how they can sit in these chambers and guffaw like they do makes me cringe and my toes curl. Stop point scoring over each other and get on with sorting out the mess of this country. Spin after spin, lie after lie, Sunak keeps on claiming the successes of his government, and has the empathy of a slug - the Tories have had NO successes - I'm sick of his phrase 'delivering for the working people' - what , precisely,? schools crumbling, no affordable housing, no more council housing, huge waiting lists, child poverty, food poverty, collapse of mental health services, shortages of skilled labour, lack of retention of teachers and junior doctors, the list could go on and on. Yeah, you've delivered alright, delivered our country into the depths of despair.
