Keith was so full of energy, enthusiasm, very articulate yet down-to-earth.Cheerful chap.I once hit him up for an autograph after a show in my hometown many years ago.Incredibly pleasant man.Who knew the pain & turmoil he was going through?I imagine he fought it as long & hard as he could until it became too much to bear.So very sad.

I was blessed to sit in on this interview. Yes, i was a bit pissed that folks couldn't keep quiet or lower their voices. If I could do it again Id have told them to shut up. The karaoke story was an absolute hoot. Over the years I forgot about it except the line 'he f'in wrote it'. Thank you for posting this in such a way to enjoy his stories and interaction. This was the second highlight of that day for me.

Thank you for sharing this. What a joy it was to listen to Keith - entertaining, interesting, intelligent, humble. I would have enjoyed listening to him if the interview was hours long. The ignoramuses (ignorami?) blathering in the room while Keith was speaking were certainly disrespectful.

Along with The Beatles, Keith is the musician I love the most. This is wonderful!!!

It was what four years later he took his life which was the first time I cried in probably decades😢 I didn't even cry when my grandma and my father passed away not because of lack of love but I'm just not one to cry I hold it in.😮

Fascinating listening to Keith. His stories, recollections and funny stories, warrant another listen. I saw The Nice at Salford University (UK), about 1968. "Yes" , were the support band. Both bands were unknown to me, but were amazing. I became a fan of both of them. I met Keith, in an unsual way - - My band were part of a tour, featuring 60`s bands & artists. We played in Worthing - (South Coast of England). When the show had finished, I was stunned to see Keith walk into the dressing room. We chatted for a long time - covering many subjects. Very talkative, humble, fun person. I spoke with his lady friend, Mari, a lovely lady. Worthing is his hometown ! I would insert a photo, but don`t know how to....

Many people are talking in the background! Lack of respect in my mind.

Somehow it hurts listening to him and watching him as I can feel that he became so humble as he lost most of his self confidence due to his handicap with his right hand. Maybe the decreasing interest in his music played another important role. I saw ELP two times in the 90s. The first time they had to change the venue as they didn´t sell enough tickets for a big hall. So they played in a hall that was way too small for them and for their old glory. The second time they played in a club and throughout the whole concert I thought that they just didn´t belong there. The sound was lousy - way too loud and unbalanced, probably due to a cheap pa system and an unexperienced FOH engineer - and Keith looked miserable. His right hand was a pale shadows of former days and the only question was: will he get through this damned concert without a major, embarrassing mistake. That attacked my nerves just as much as if I would have been in his shoes. The band knew that they were not the old ELP anymore - Greg had increased in weight enormously, he had lost over 2 tones in his high range and his voice sounded raspy. Only Carl seemed to be in good shape but that alone didn´t make it. In the end I bought a tour shirt with the ELP logo on it. I felt like if it was a souvenir from those old days when Keith and ELP were my musical heroes. It was the sad end of a concert and a musical relationship. I wish he could have find a better solution than to take his own life. He could have composed, he could have had students, he could have produced other artists, he could have supported other prog bands - gosh, there would have been so many ways to go on without being a keyboard virtuoso. But he didn´t find them.

I think that the mayor reason was that he was in so much pain. 😔

@@irmagarcia7826I also heard he had a golf ball-sized tumor in his stomach along with being depressed and an alcoholic hell yeah it would be too much for a lot of people to take especially since he was once God on the keyboards😮
