I stumbled across this cover and while I love carrie underwood and the power she brang to the original version I cannot help but love the emotion that kelly sang this cover with that's why I tend to favor kellys version a little more. Both carrie and kelly sang the hell out of it though. I would love to seem them collaborate one day.
I know I've seen this before, but there is something about Kelly that just goes down to my bones. There's something in her voice that just breaks my heart when she sings something like this. It's like no matter what she sings, she puts her whole heart into it. You can feel whatever it is she's singing. With her new stuff, you can tell she's beyond happy because it's in her voice. But with songs like this, you can hear the sadness. That's one reason why I love her. Not to mention her incredible voice! I've been a fan of Kelly's since the first time I seen her on Idol. This does not mean that Carrie Underwood isn't good. That girl can sing too! But they're just so different. But for me, there's just something about Kelly that makes me believe what she's singing. There's this warmth and purity to her voice. It's so raw. Carrie's voice is incredible too. But again, for me, she just doesn't have the soul that Kelly has. But I'm still a huge fan of Carrie's! Oh what I would give to have just an ounce of their talent!!
Carrie, a Full Lyric Soprano, balanced this song with power and sustenance. Kelly, another Full Lyric Soprano, balanced it with power and range. Both versions just blow you away.
I agree totally with Carla Chaney. To me, Kelly is a singer who I can listen to all day. I'm still listening to her Christmas CD. I like other singers but I can't listen to them as I can to Kelly. Her voice is so diversified and full of so much passion and emotion.
Personally, I find Kelly's version unintentionally miles more powerful and moving than the original. From the arrangement, to the vocals, to the tone, there's a rawness and grit that no one can touch. It just unravels you.
Bragofan You took the words right out of my mouth. Watching her sing this makes me tear up every time just because you can tell how much emotion she's put behind it. I think she's amazing. Going to go see her for the fifth this summer. Can't wait!
Kelly sang it more desperately, great phrasing, cracking voice which deliver more emotional melody (same way she did with piece by piece in Idol) and soulful, but I think it's too much, she overused this technique for this song, because the lyrics is not that sad. Adele can do the same way. Carrie's tone in the other hand in high note is clearer and more beautiful, and her long note is everything, totally in control and didn't sound pitchy, this make Carrie technically more unqiue. Anyway, I don't think Carrie will sing any song that is soulful as Kelly did, because she is a country artist.
This is a beautiful song...I've never heard the original (calm down, going to listen to it now) but I'm not sure it could be better than I'm hearing it now. WOW.
I've heard Carrie sing this song at the I Heart Radio show in Vegas a few years ago. She was wonderful. But I must say that Kelly sings this song with more emotion and soul.
I love this woman, she is amazing. She did an amazing job. I wouldn't expect any thing less from her. She is one my favorite singers and so is Demi Lovato. Kelly Clarkson is best American Idol winner, in my opinion. I do like Carrie too she is good. But Kelly has it and she doesn't even try.
You are one of the few that has said this. I've said it for a very long time. Is Adele talented ? Of course, but she still doesn't have the range nor the emotion to sing like a Kelly Clarkson. Kelly should have won the Grammy a few years ago in the Best Vocal Performance for Stronger. I do Like "SLY" but Stronger by Kelly was the best of the 2.
I was lucky enough to go to a taping today of an up coming Vh1 unplugged for Kelly. This was the 1st song she sang, I always knew what a great singer she was but now I know what an amazing singer she is. She did an amazing job with this song, you really feel her emotion in the song. The girl can "sang".
I never realized how "lifeless" Carrie's voice is until I compared both versions of this song. The difference is a stark as night and day. This isn't a competition but it is the place to comment on the topic in the video. Kelly 's version moves me. Carries version bores me.
did you really say that carries voice is lifeless? have you even listened to the live version? it’s miles better than this version. clarkson put me to sleep. absolutely no competition when it comes to carries version. it’s so much better
Orlando Almeida people that have bad taste exist, Carrie has no soul meanwhile Clarkson is overflowing with it. That doesn’t mean Carrie is a bad singer, I like them both. But this song is an emotional ballad that requires some soul.
I don't think its lifeless persay I just think it overpowers the song. She belts out the chorus where as kelly begins the song in a lower more head voice and it gives the song more dimension than carries version.
2015 and i still listen Kelly singing this song. She has a beutiful and powerful voice and I think this is the best version of "I know you won't " in this world. *-*
OK, I'll let you all know right now that I'm a Kelly fan. I love her interpretation of this song and her voice is outstanding. Carrie does a terrific job on this song but Kelly's version speaks to me with so much more passion and emotion.
I love Kelly so much! She singing Carrie's song and doing it every bit as good as Carrie. Not an easy thing to do. It's cute how Kelly is clearly a fan! ^_^
Both amazing singers. The lyrics are by Carrie, good for you girl. Kelly have more voice, tones, gravity, agility etc, but both are AMAZING SINGERS ANYWAY!!
I love Kelly's rendition of this song. It has a darker vibe to it than other versions, which is an amazing thing for an artist to bring out of a song. Kelly definitely knows how to pull the emotion out of a song. Her soulful vibe made this heavenly. She owned this song.
The thing about carrie is that she is a technical singer, period. She doesn't show dynamics. Kelly's voice has highs and lows, but she does modulations and crescendos. Plus kelly knows how to use vibrato. To me Carrie sounds too linear. Maybe it comes with the genre as most country female singers to me seem very limited in their vocal delivery. For example, Martina Mcbride has range, but again her voice is just "pretty." There is no nuances or dynamics.
Anyone else think that Kelly sings Carrie's song better, or is that treason? Lol Just seems to me that we can FEEL Kelly feeling the lyrics, and Carrie just sings them with what feels like s lot less connection... IMO
Carrie a string Country vocalist made that song made that song her own. Kelly who I think has more range could probably do a country version and it would sound amazing.
Watch the vh1 unplugged version of this. Vocal master class. Carrie kicks ass btw Carrie can sing her ass off too. Thank you Kelly for giving us a kick ass version of this song and I would listen to Kelly's version first. Clearly vocally in a different league than all the other singers just listen to vh1 unplugged dammit. lol
Of course we all have preferrences, I prefer Kelly. To me she is the epitome of not only a great singer but great at interpreting the lyrics. Covers don't necessarily need to follow the original artists music. Kelly took this song and made it her own That is a great singer.
I'm pretty sure if the song writers' see this they would be like this is how it should have been done! I like carrie also but the way kelly sang this song tells the story the way it was written! can't quit hitting replay..
Let me officially end all of the arguments and debates....Kelly absolutely KILLS this song (in a good way) ! I, for the record LOVE Carrie Underwood but this song is now Kelly's.
@Rosannasfriend How in the world could Kelly have sang it with more emotion, she is pratically crying in her falsetto. I LOVE Carrie and am a huge fan, but Kelly NAILS this song, period
Both are good. But I prefer this one. Kelly's raspy and husky voice brings out the raw emotion of the song. And that is what I like. I feel the pain. Hahaha.
Are you people deaf??? Ok I admit I love Carrie Underwood....and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song by Carrie but when I heard Kelly do it...omg...its a million times better by Kelly. Kelly sings this song with so much more depth and emotion then Carrie. Ok I guess its a matter of opinion but I'm still saying Kelly sung it better =P
Kelly is 100% goddess. Voice of an angel, personality that anyone would want in a friend, and so grounded in her reality that she is free to be who she is without a care if anyone likes it or not. 100% baby, 100%.
Just re-watched a live version of Carrie's and it was terrifyingly robotic/boring and completely emotionless. I think Carrie is a technical powerhouse, but she just belts the same note over and over again. Boring. THIS on the other hand. WOW. Leaves me breathless every time.
Holy Mother of GOD!! That has got to be one of the most INCREDIBLE performances I have seen. I am absolutely astounded. I have Carries album and am a fan, but this performance brought it to a whole new level, like a completely diffferent song and its the first time I cried when I heard it. Kelly you are just unbelievable. I am in awe of your talent!!
I'd like Kelly to sing two more Carrie Underwood covers. I want to hear her sing "Two Black Cadillacs" and "Temporary Home". I think Carrie should really be proud of Kelly!
There is no song out there that Carrie can't sing. She just hasn't gotten around to doing any of Kelly's songs. I would love for them to do a n awesome rock duet. That would be epic. Two of the greatest singers on the planet doing a duet, country or rock. Who cares.
