This was a perfect tribute. Kelly has the rare required combination of the pipes, the control, and the humility needed to pay tribute to both Dolly and Whitney, two of the greatest the world has ever and will ever see. She didn't try to outdo Whitney in vocal acrobatics (I liked her understated, lower "please" before "don't you cry" - it was a perfect moment to leave space for us to hear Whitney's almost whistle note "please" in our memories) but she paid her respect by nailing a couple of Whitney's key vocal choices and making other parts almost conversational sing-song the way Dolly's version does. So many artists take an opportunity like this to make it about themselves, and Kelly always steps up to the moment with humility and grace. Love her.

This song has been sung so many times and so often with the intention of showing off vocals that sometimes the sentimental lyrics are overshadowed by the singer. Kelly's such a powerful vocalist but always makes sure she's telling the story and I love her for it.

Kelly Clarkson is severely underrated. She needs to release multiple albums of her covers. She’s the only artist who can do it all and sound amazing. She proved her versatility on American Idol and continues to be the best to come from that show.

I studied voice as a college student, and I know how amazing it is that Kelly can sing so many styles with a wide vocal range and beautiful expression. I am retired and I love watching her show most days.

I cringe every time I see someone is singing this song. Whitney touched every corner of my heart with her incredible gift. This is hands down the best cover version I’ve ever heard. Kelly is such a gifted vocalist. This was breathtaking. I enjoyed the way she moved between both renditions of this song and did not fall into the trap of over singing it.

Singers were competing live, and we at home got to phone in our votes to see who survived to the following week. I remember Justin, Nikki, Tamyra, Ryan… but there was this one girl from Texas. Holy cow, could she sing. She was on a completely different level…_ And here we are, twenty years later, and Kelly from Fort Worth is still humbly bringing down the house.
