Zubot and Dawson were folk duo from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, that consisted of Jesse Zubot on fiddle and Steve Dawson on guitar. They played largely folk-inspired acoustic music and released three albums. They toured both North America and Europe. In 2003 they won a Juno award for the album Chicken Scratch

One of my favorite blues by Robert Johnson. Very real rendition of a great tune. Love the artistry and personality in this performance. Thank you. Blessings on the artist. The music biz is tough but I’m grateful for the true hearts that put their soul into the music.

@@DonsTunes don, just passing along the news that Kelly Joe died on 5/31/22. His album "Slingshot Professionals" is his songs with Zubot and Dawson as his backing band, very similar sound as this but more poetic lyrics.

The winter storm caught everyone by surprise. Even though it was 15 years ago, certain nights bring back the sting fresh. I was 14, my sister 8. Our dad had charged me with looking after her, and we waited too long to trek out to the shed and refill the firewood. The snowfall was thick, visibility went to zero, and my flashlight was useless. I yelled through the storm at her to just go back to the house, still barely visible in the background, but fading - I’d continue on the shelter of the shed, wait it out, then return with firewood for the night. And I thought she had. I stumbled into the shed, breathless - and waited two hours before it was calm enough to return back to the house with the wood - no sign of her. I searched in an increasing circle around the house for what felt like several hours; eventually found her, seemingly asleep, huddled in a makeshift nook out of the biting wind. She made it - but frostbite claimed a part of her left ear and cheek forever. Angel forgave me almost immediately when she got home from the hospital - her friends all lovingly referred to her scars as “winter beautymarks” - but our dad could never look at me the same. I felt that sting every time I looked at her after school - even when her bouncy personality remained unchanged. Felt it when dad put out cigarettes on my left cheek late at night afterwards. It stays. But now - on a chilly night - watching the flames flicker, I exhale and breathe peacefully; watch the sparks rise into the dark night. Redemption can come slowly, peace can grow out of turmoil sometimes. Grateful for this quiet night and clear air. Time passes. Healing starts. Cheers Don.

I just haven't felt bluesy and that is not me, I am recovering, but I have a long way to go and lots of physio🙄 Everything takes longer because I can only use one arm, so bear with me till I am fully back. I may not get full mobility🤤 Great blues this week, I really loved it. I think Don is wonderful, he seems to find the impossible and I know I would not be able to hear his blues gems without a lot of work and research from him. I hope things are going well for you. Sad news is that Kelly Joe Phelps, who played guitar and sang so well on this track, passed away on 5/31/22. He was a spectacular and unique musician, his album "Slingshot Professionals" is essentially his songs with this band, if you like this sound you would love that album!

Hi there, Don, Well, we certainly had something different here today. I really did enjoy this video and the song, too. That bass guitar was out of this world -- almost speaking its own language.
