Thank you so much I really appreciate the complement !! I’ll believe I have a video somewhere using this axe all finished up, I did crack the handle so I don’t use it that often anymore. I plan to re hang it, but I love the way it looks on that killinger handle and they’re no longer available. I’m torn on what to do with it because I love using it but I don’t want to remove the beautiful handle. Maybe it’ll now just be a nice piece of history in the axe basement 👍

You start with a head in great condition and make it look so quick and easy with power tools. My head restoration is slower by hand. Vinegar soak and fine wire toothbrush to remove rust. I use a handy file for bit and then 80-1000 grits on a drywall sand pad for convex blend of the filed angles to a semi-polish. I learned that drywall sand pad from Craig Roost's RU-vid video. IMHO, it's the best way to sharpen and polish by hand.
@940joey2
@940joey2 2 года назад
Thank you !! I’ve never tried the vinegar soak thing yet, I definitely want to try it one day !! Oh yeah the rooster scary sharp I’ve seen that video, seems like an awesome way to get sharp and a nice polish. I didn’t even think of them when I was doing this. Next time I do one similar I’ll have to try that method out 👍

Joey - Nice work. I agree with everything you did. No need to turn a higher usable axe like that into a museum piece. Haven't seen you post in awhile. Worried that your hand may be healing slower than expected. Can't wait until you get back in front of the camera. Whatever happened to the Hulks Bruk Agdor Montreal axe?
@940joey2
@940joey2 2 года назад
Thank you so much !! Yeah man sorry I kind of took a break, I wasn’t giving my hand time to heal and I was making it worse so I just had to complete step away for a bit and my shift changed at work so it’s been crazy the past 2 weeks. I can’t wait to film again too I really enjoy doing it I’ll be back soon. I might do an update video tonight. And the HB I sent it to Matt to use for a little bit to try out and he just recently sent it back but I got hurt right around when I got it back from him so I haven’t been able to use it.

Looks great! I have a little axe head that was super rusty and pitted that I want to do a pit and polish on. There's a lot of filing left for me to do on the edge though, as it was in terrible shape.

Thank you so much !! Oh wow that’s going to look awesome, I always thought that was a cool look pit and polish. Dang I bet that’s gotta be crazy amount of filing, just after re profiling and taking the cheeks back with a file my hands are killing me, so I couldn’t imagine a head in rough shape. Good luck with it I hope to see you out chopping with it one day 👍

I have one of those, and a few other old Connecticut patterns. I want to rehang them but all three of them have an eye that is 2 1/2 inches long, I can only find handles that are 2 1/4 long. Do killenger brand handles come a bit bigger? Do make up for it buy seating the head further into the handle and make a large hardwood wedge? Any input would be appreciated.
@940joey2
@940joey2 2 года назад
Hey thanks for check out the video !! Yeah killinger give you more than enough eye wood in both directions. You could almost cut a half inch or more off and still have enough to have a proud hang !!! Unfortunately his handles sell out quick and he gets them in waves and most other handles aren’t made to properly hang larger heads anymore. Next time they come around I highly recommend grabbing one. Also check out house handle I have a house handle on my other jersey and it worked out well. 👍

What's your favorite handle length mines 28 to 32 inches
@940joey2
@940joey2 2 года назад
My favorite length on a boys axe is 26-28 inches and full-size my favorite is 28-30 inches. I really enjoyed slightly shorter to what people seem to usually use. I’ve tried over 30 inches and I just couldn’t get comfortable with it. Now as far as splitting goes, i have my splitting axe and maul both on 32 inch handles.
@terryhatton3622
@terryhatton3622 2 года назад
Mine 28 to 32 I don't care for 36 inch handles. That's why I started making my own handles you got to custom order the shorter handles. I just done a 2.8 pound plumb rockaway on a killinger 28 inch red elm handle it turned out great 👍
