I think it's about riding the board to the best of your ability AND riding the wave the actual wave to the best of your ability and what it has to offer.

I agree. His surfing in this heat was some of the best small wave surfing I have ever seen. Meanwhile the talking heads even downplayed his surfing. Why would you intentionally want to force Kelly to retire when he is still the biggest draw in surfing? Seems crazy but does seem that that is why they’ve been doing.

Mediocre airs cheered as if they were anything especial. It's becoming a joke. And what a horrible style, in my opinion luck him style isn't in the criteria.
Ozzies seem to be favored this year by the predomently Australian judges. The Americans and Brazilians are getting snufffed out by the weak scoring in most events.
