I was there when he got that wave. I lived and surfed at this beach off and on for ten years and never saw a tube ride like the one Kelly got here. Not even close. Actually, Kelly's heat had just finished, so this wave actually didn't count for the heat. He advanced anyway so it didn't matter, but it was the wave everyone talked about after the week long contest was over. Anyway I saw Kelly take off and then it looked like it closed out on him. I kept looking just in case he made it, and when it was clear he couldn't have made it I was looking in the whitewash to see where he got caught... when suddenly out of the corner of my eye I saw him pop out of the the end of the wave. The whole beach exploded. Noone thought he would have made that wave. It was a great moment to be there at my home beach. Awesome.
+magorkel OB in San Francisco. Although OB in SD gets some perfect rights off the jetty on a big swell. Just never know when that will be. OB in San Francisco in the Fall you can count on head high plus surf pretty much every day.
Only thing hard was getting barreled when it was either blown out or about to be blown out. Temperature plays no facture in NorCal for NorCal. Part of the deal
@@clarkewi Ok cool. daughters mother born and raised SSF. Daughter born in Pacifica and I was Neptune surfboards all day. 47th and Balboa "kelly's" all day. Middle of the OB you know Noriega st. Aqua surf were homies....... I moved to frisco in 89. deadman's 5 guys out. By 93- 95 25 guys out.
That was incredible Kelly is one of the few capable of pulling that off. I’ve surfed OB for 10 years it is one of the most challenging breaks around. You get used to it after a while and when everything comes together it’s a great.

@PaRkOuRbOyKaI I am sorry, I wrote "before" instead of "after" sometimes i confuse them as my native language is not my native language... I know that if you get up before the horn that wave counts, as i said it was a word confusion. Cheers and thanks for the advertice! Good waves!
I apologyse for my ignorance but as a person who knows nothing about surfing when I see this video I really can't understand what is so hard about that barrel. He makes it look so easy! Is it about the timing, the speed or even the technique?
That barrel would be near impossible for anyone else in the world to make..i understand you said you know nothing about surfing so go grab a board and try to just catch a 2 ft wave, I guarantee then you will realize how hard this sport is

it;s ridiculously amazing, defies laws of physics and human ability. its not a hose splashing u in the face, its a big bad heavy messy lump of salt water thats been generated hundreds of miles away, and mr god slater has come along and slotted/forced himself in a position on earth that others cant even imagine achieving in their genuine surfing drreams. stuff like this requires the spatial awareness and ability/agility of wonder woman, a squirrel and a winner of ninja warrior combined. he's probably the best athlete the world has seen since Hercules or that man from assasins creed.

the trick itself is not that difficult but the way he did it in that situtuation was pretty good, the barrel he had after was/ is only something kelly slater can do, at least the sickest deepest barrel i've ever seen
