I like this style of review, George does a good job of explaining the features of these backpacks. And I learned a quite a bit about how these bags are put together. Thanks for sharing...
Awesome review!!!!!! Appreciate all the info. I’m looking at buying a backpack and having it custom embroidered as a gift and you have helped me a lot!
I love the Redwing as well. Thank you for sharing some honest feedback on these new Kelty bags. Seems like they were trying to target the EDC user and missed the mark. Sounds like these would work well for a teenagers schoolbag but not a commuter's EDC.
Very thoughtful review! For the Flint 32 How do you feel about how solid the back is? Is it a well structured frame, or is it on the softer side where the Whole back can bend easily?
George - great review and spot on. I love Kelty and this bag and the Slate is perfect for my every day work needs (laptop and binders), however after a less than two years the zipper in the main compartment fell apart. I typically only buy Kelty so the lack of long-term durability was dissapointing. Good news, Kelty said the failure is within warranty. However, the Slate has been out of stock for quite a while and doesn't seem to be coming back. Do you have a suggestion for a similar pack in size and attributes (external laptop slot in particular, sleek enough for professional environment like the all black Slate) but that has the long term durability? Thanks!
Hey there, what do you/yall think of the Kelty Slate 30 at a $32.95 price point??? I was thinking of picking 2 of them up (free shipping over $50). I was gonna keep 1 for myself to keep in my truck with different stuff and give another 1 as a Christmas gift to my father-in-law......... If there is something else more recommended at this price point, please do tell :)
They sold the Kelty name to other company. Kelty got bought out by exxel group a few years ago, since then, "their" packs are not what they used to be. Man I have a Kelty that I've been abusing since 2012 and the thing just won't give up, it's built like a tank. Sadly a lot of companies are either cheaping out or simplifying designs every time they come up with a new iteration. Cheers.-
