As competitors and tourists we experience the world titles as 10 days of Hooray.
Maybe we plan our flights and our holidays 3 months ahead? Some guys even cut down on their diet and swim a bit for fitness.😉. buy a new board.
But for the organizers it's the minimum of two years, administrative, organization, fundraising, planning . . . buildup.
Just think of media, judging, venues, transport, social events, accommodation, food, toilets, showers, coffee bar, dealing with disgruntled competitors, the weather, injuries, first aid support, insurance, support from a range of sporting and local government agencies. . .
What about support from the local surfers?
When we think about this perhaps we should say THANK YOU and WELL DONE, more often.
