This was really interesting to watch. I’m kind of glad that it didn’t go perfectly for you while you were doing it on video, because as you were working it in and then you had to redo it really showed how many different ways it can be done. I’m gonna go find some old Ken heads now. Thank you
I did it it works but made changes as I cut the chin off the donor only keeping area necessary I filled head with cotton balls to allow for resistance.
OMG thank you SO much! I bought this wheel chair Ken for this exact head and was wondering how I was going to mod the neck. I get the body in the mail and realize OH NO. I google and luckily your video came up! Something I did to get his face to look a bit thinner like before is to shave down the jaw and chin of the new Ken head, so it adds less bulk inside the head so it won’t be as wide. You could also slim the neck down, but I don’t want to risk that until I learn more about modding. Maybe if I get a Ken fashionista body I’ll try slimming the neck and see if that would be a good option for those head in future. Thanks so much again! Life saver! Your channel is one of my new favorites as a person getting back into Barbie’s. I was obsessed as a kid but my mom threw away all my Barbie’s but two, a 2005 Barbie sculpt (my sister chewed up the hands tho 😂 I rebodied her anyways!) and this Ken doll. I think he was a life guard and I remember being so upset when I got him bc everyone else got Barbie’s with extra dresses and I got a basic Ken with no shirt 😑 My mom was angry (was relatives) and I think she got me a barbie bc she felt bad. But that made my relationship with boy dolls very negative until now. I really love some of the new Ken dolls and I am awaiting BMR1959 with the logo hoodie and clear glasses and the new Looks with the flocked hair (not the bearded one, he’s too beefy for me. Did Ken really need to be more muscular?). I want a slim body for Fashionista 193 and I also love 184 but would have to reroot his hair (not a sculpted hair person. I’d rather make him a wig or reroot. Honestly for short hair wigs are easier for sure!) Rambling aside, looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Wow, this was so helpful. I would be curious to try different versions of this. For example, the King Dominick ken doll from yearrrrs back has a swivel neck and body, with older articulation (my personal favorite ken body, tbh). I'd be curious to try doing this with them. Altering one of these blonde kens to go on one of those. Thanks for sharing this info. I really wanna try it now. ^_^
Not for me . Oh my goodness, I've made some mistakes thinking i could do something like the RU-vidrs , they just make it look so simple. Thank you for showing me how hard it really is. My hands are just not that strong .😮
You can use other methods to secure the head but it usually involves stuffing the head or using a ton of rubber bands and I already have these heads from the body donors so waste not want not
Technically it is possible if you were to make a couple of cuts in the neck of the Barbie head, but it would stretch the dimensions of the face because the neck is about twice as wide, if you wanted a masculine body with a thinner neck I would recommend the BTS boy bodies for a Barbie neck they are a lot thinner in the neck while still being articulated. It will allow you to not have the facial distortion due to stretching around the neck or at least not as bad I have a Disney Princess gender swap project planned out eventually where I plan to do that with mine
Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with vintage or mod Ken, the difference is going to involve cutting up a donor head to shove inside your vintage head if it only has a swivel neck, you could also use stuffing to fill the head to where it fits correctly on the neck peg. But if you have a hole that is smaller than the current models of articulated Ken’s then you’ll have to cut your vintage head or use heat, I do not recommend using this method on expensive dolls first, I would find dolls in bad condition and experiment first, good luck hope it helped
Check out my made to move Ken video where I compare all of the available shades. Most Ken dolls are going to match either the wheelchair fashionista Ken or the Looks Ken doll
@@disneydprince yeah I saw it. Great video very helpful. The problem is that ken from the 80/90 has a little chin than the modern one. That's why I wondering if it could match did you try it ?
@@SwanJemie I have on a brandon Walsh 90210 doll you need to cut more of the donor face off only leaving ring around neck so ears and chin cut off. I posted it on Facebook on barbiecollector forum where I tagged his video for reference. It worked on Brabdon doll. Kurt from fashion fever and Blaine from generation girl. But not Ken's with hard heads.
@@GwendyddStclair Hi ! Thank you for your answer. I don't know this forum but I tried it with one of my old Ken. I cut his neck and put it on MTM body and it works ! I could be better but it's cool 😉 thank you.
I generally use the chin as my anchoring point for the other cut up head underneath to help keep things looking as normal as possible so I don’t recommend cutting it because otherwise you will have to find a different way to secure the inner and outer heads
