No, no, no- listen ESPN has made the decision to rebrand her- she's "LC" now, don't you know?! Hipper, younger, more accessible and casual. So please refer to her as LC, ok? Thank you.
FYI I met Ken last week on vacation and he was as friendly as can be, was willing to take a photo with me. He's a classy, nice guy. This interview was terrible. Horrible questions, horrible delay. ALSO, they show a clip of a Pittsburgh Pirates player crashing into home plate (it's not Ken, he never played for the Pirates) and the dumb reporter says "ya, you're one of the best in going into home plate hard". WTF? That wasn't Griffey's thing, plus it's not Griffey in that clip, so Ken was probably like "What is she talking about?". Brutal interview.
TheGood79 It was cut down, she asked him about the ban on plate collisions now and how he felt about it, But after it was over for her to go on twitter and bash him about the interview was really unprofessional on her part and causing a lot of undeserved heat to his twitter, Making him have to respond with an apology for being sick and thrown right into a live interview.
Ian R. Key dont blame the cut... you cant "cut" enthusiasm or a good attitude. he just plain sucked. and admitted it. whatever issues he was going through, he was on contract, representing a brand, who pays his and his families bills. cut the excuses and do your job right. fake it if you have to or dont go up at all. there are celbs who couldve done a better job with the flu or on their deathbed. you cant blame one word answers on edits. and he couldnt see the replays. and hes dealt with plenty of dumb questions in his 10 year plus career. classless

I don't see him being a douche. Just answered the questions simply instead of elaborating and sounding dumb like some other athletes "you know um, I have like this sammy sosa card which was pretty cool." "Um so and so resembles me cause he catch ball well and hits ball good like I did." Just a man of little words and I can respect that.
I used to really like this guy as a kid. You have to wonder what was going on behind the scenes, but it really makes me loose respect for him. Take a note from Payton Manning, always classy.
Lol! Ask him if he still thinks McCutchen is the best player in the game. Lol I guess this bias Turd can’t admit Mike Trout is ;) BTW… Trout recently passed griffey’s career WAR total. Lol! Bet that subject wasn’t talked about with the ‘homies’ at the most recent COOKOUT.
Jraybay like my own comment? What? And I could give a fuck if Jraybay thinks I’m a douche bag to be honest. You’re irrelevant as shit 😂 and Griffey is an ass in this particular interview. Doesn’t mean I didn’t love him as a player
A lot of times people are contractually obligated to do interviews. I'm sure he had to, but it was likely his 100th interview of the week. The interviewer even made a comment about it near the beginning.
Apparently he didn't care and still felt like giving us little retort as possible, JUST Cancel the interview for another time! it's not that difficult to answers questions.
Dan John He should have sucked it up, no? It's his JOB. Do you think the janitor wants to clean the toilets at the high school he works at? No. No he doesn't. But he does.
It's not just America, its whomever wants to say something. Also, sadly, "people" that comment on RU-vid videos, usually don't have a censor. Which to me means they didn't learn respect for others, or at the very least the ability to place themselves in that type of situation before spewing their thoughts.
Am I the only person in America that was happy this happened to the annoying, full of herself, egomaniacal Linda Cohn? God, thank you Junior, I was waiting for something like that. And not surprised that no one has mentioned her "tweets" post-interview. Unprofessional. Get rid of this clown ESPN, her voice is THE WORST.
Am I the only person more annoyed by the fake personality of the interviewer and her stupid questions? People just don't know how to handle someone being natural on TV anymore. Everyone wants the fake BS.
I just read an article from Ken that he said he was having a “coughing attack” right before they went on air and then they went live on short notice and he was trying to hold it together. He ended up apparently doing a podcast later on with Linda completely normal.
People cut him down for this, yet adore and praise Mashawn Lynch for answering all media questions with one answer... Who cares about this? Don't let one meaningless, video interview define him or his career..
yeah but your professional career ended over a boring video. I dont see anyone getting mad about boring ass IRS videos and wanting them fired. Thats fucking annoying, you throw a man career away over a non offensive video, its only offensive, because you're not entertained, fuck that. thats not even funny man.
Ok, what is the complaint here? Griffey was fine in the interview. The main problem, the "awkwardness" was due to the delay. If you listen closely at the beginning you can see it took about 2-3 seconds for Griffey to actually hear the question after she asked it. Factor out the delay - the interview was fine. Yeah, his answers were succinct but they were to the point and endearing.
He should have quickly announced he had a bad cough and couldn't speak much, so to not confuse the interviewer and the viewers into thinking he was an asshole. That's how people usually do it.
DiverseLA exactly he should have told the viewers please excuse how i speak and feel. i am trying my best in the midst of an illness and thank you for having me on your program. that is professionalism.
People here saying "what's the point of agreeing to an interview if you're not going to say anything"... They don't realize how these people are pressured in to doing stuff like this by corporations. A lot of the time money is involved. Furthermore he wasn't being rude or anything, he was smiling, didn't say any mean remarks, he answered all of the questions. He just seems like a man of few words. Why does ale every famous sports player or actor have to also be a tv personality or comedian? It's not in the job description...
Yeah, that wasn't that bad. But that's what people do, blow things out of proportion. I hope he "redeems" himself on her podcast next week. After "apologizing". It's almost scary, how easily people are offended, nowadays.
Why y'all being so mean. He wasn't rude or anything he looks like he's really exhausted and sick. He answered politely and said thank you he doesn't deserve all these hate lol ppl just like to put down others
Here’s the thing, this is Griffey’s honest personality when in the spotlight. He never really embraced his role as the face of the game, because he watched his dad go through the professional circuit and how it treats you in the long run. I even once read that he hates the Yankees for how they treated black players, so he would never play for them. MOST athletes hate the media as well, and most interviews tend to be pulling teeth.
He's never given a good interview in his career. He's always seemed to have some sort of social anxiety disorder. He answered the questions, leave him alone.
You could tell from the opening moments as LC was introducing him, by the look on his face he didn't want to be there. He looked like he was all pissed off at being there, reminiscent of Barry Bonds' interviews. What these players have to be mad about? Played baseball for a living. Multi-multi-millionaire. Just shows the lack of perspective from a guy that grew up on a silver platter. As LC tweeted later, smell the roses Ken! Still my all time fav player though, grew up and lifelong M's fan here, have his factory-sealed Upper Deck rookie card to this day. Just dissapointing though that my fav player as a kid, and as an adult now I see him as kind of a jerk. But he has always been that way towards the media. Don't players realize that without the media coverage, they can just give most of their paychecks back? Popularity and the commercializing of the sport from media and fans make their absurdly high salaries possible.
These players get paid because of the fans not because of morons at ESPN. Ken has done tons of interviews and is smiling through the whole thing. But because of this interview you think he is a jerk? Then clearly you are a child.
I was 12 years old at one of Ken Griffey Jr's games and that dude was such a dick..refused to come out and sign and greet after the game with the kids waiting for him..this guy still hasn't changed.
U guys are being a little hard on him. I've watched the video a few times. There seems to be a time delay in the beginning, and we don't know if she sees that, but, she cuts off one or two of his answers, before he even finishes; making it appear as though his answers were short. She talks over one of his answers, which basically turned into her asking the question he had already answered. He looks a bit tired, and she opened with, she knew he had done a lot of interviews for upper deck. Then he gives her a great smile at the end! Lighten up, give the guy a break!
The thing you guys are completely forgetting is that the interviewer said he's been doing a ton of interviews for upper deck. He knows he's only there to advertise that upper deck sign behind him so why should he try?
Man this is how I feel sometimes i feel it's important that if you're a athlete or a famous person you should never talk on t.v. shows or to show people the real you because they might not like it..you no i can't even remember the last time I seen this guy or heard people talking about this guy and that's all he had to say...your better that....i hope!
Lifelong M's fan and grew up watching Griffey. This bummed me out to watch. Don't know why you would go on a show if you were just going to answer like that.
That wasnt that bad. The guy clearly identifies with things a little differently. He's not really much of a baseball "fan". Nor should he be if doesn't want to be. A lot of players are not really fans of the game. So he doesn't follow the game much anymore . Leave it at that. Anybody saying they lost respect for the Kid because of this is ignorant or just stupid.
I think they are not ones to always watch everybody else unless it is in a film room. Seems like Jr was either high or tired though, not purposefully bring a dick.
In 2006 i met him at a chili's in Atlanta. He is a complete D-Bag. Me and my friend waited until him and his fam finished their meals and caught him on the way out. My buddy discretly(we didnt want to cause a scene) said "sir, my younger bro is your biggest fan, can i get a quick autograph for him?" as he handed him a pen and paper. Griffey grabbed the pen and scribbled on the paper with a disguted, pissed off look, then promptly threw the pen and paper back in my friends face without uttering a word. Even his kids were like "damn dad, whats wrong with you?". I guess that's just how he treats fans.
We can't believe JR was able to contain his enthusiasm when he realized he was going to be asked a twitter question from someone as famous as derby @home_run_derby.
does anyone know what is really going on here? this is confusing as to why this so awkward.... someone give me some reasoning,. rather he doesnt like Linda Cohn from the days she covered him, or he really hates doing interviews.
On his behalf, he just woke up from his clubhouse nap. The kid sure likes his naps. Oh and he HAS been "linked" to PED's. Not actually caught, but then again, Bonds and Armstrong passed all of their tests, too. There aren't very many innocent players in MLB, just those who haven't been singled out.
He just isn't a big speaker, or a 'man of little words'. Why are people saying they lost respect for him? That's kind of sad that something as small as this will make you lose some respect for a man who is gonna make it to the hall of fame soon. It wasn't even a long interview, so whats the point of elaborating everything you say? No respect lost.
Some people Just Can't Look into A Camera Act Like They are Talking To another person! So I said,Let Me practice My Camera Presence And It Came Out Crib Griffin Jr! LOL!!!!!!
