Took Rose 23 years to get 200 hits in a season 10 times. But Ichiro had 200 hits in a season 10 years straight! If he didn’t play those first years in Japan he would have the MLB record hands down! I used to live in Seattle and saw many of his games and he was the best player I’ve ever seen by country mile!
People like to talk hypotheticals. You don't know when Ichiro would have been called up to the Big Leagues. Maybe 21, 22, 23? Who knows? Or how many hits he would have per season? It's a hypothetical scenero. What we do know is that Ichiro started playing MLB at the age of 27 and retired at 45. In that time period he had 3089 hits. If you look at Pete Rose's stats from the exact same time period of age 27 to 45, he had 3357 hits! Pete Rose still out hit Ichiro when you compare their actual head to head career statistics!
Some may say that Ichiro's last two years shouldn't count because he barely played. So let's take Ichiro's stats from the age of 27 to 43, and compare them to Rose's stats from the age of 27 to 43. Ichiro had 3080 hits. Rose had. 3198 hits. Even if you disregard the last two years of their careers (which really doesn't make sense when you're looking at career stat leaders) Rose still out hit Ichiro.
My favorite part...."RE: is that the right number?"; PR: "I dont remember...Al's the greatest." This from guy who remembers what Don Blasingame hit in 1962. He remembers everything unless it involves gambling hahaha. Love Pete.
@@deelo2281 What's your f-ing problem? Millions of people in this country gamble. He isn't playing anymore. You judgmental jackasses need to get a life.
Ichiro has more hits up the middle and to opposite field than any other player ever. One of 7 players to amount 500 steals and 3000 hits. His 10 200 hit seasons were consecutive. Only rose has 2000 hits in a 10 year span. Ichiro hit 2000 hits half through his 9th season. He could have sat down at that point and waited a year and still had the most hits in a 10 year span and the fastest to 2000 hits ever. He also has the single season hit record. And 5 of the top 18 hitting seasons ever. Ichiro may not be the hit king but he had the best hit apex
Hey I absolutely loved Joe Morgan. Watched him play for the Astros and Reds. Definitely a great player. Rose was just a better all around player. That's all. Not worth arguing over.
@@MrDeteriorationPure speculation. Both were awesome ball players. But I will leave you with this, Pete Rose, the ONLY player in MLB history to make the All Star team at 5 different positions. 1b, 2b, 3b, lad, and RF!
Ichiro had over 200 hits.... 10 years in a row, Rose did it over 24 years. Japan plays fewer games per year and also Ichiro spent 2 years in Japan's minors (because the coach didn't like his swing, he was perfectly capable of starting in Japan's big league), which are not counted too. Peter Rose stole just around 200 bases while Ichiro has stolen over 700 combined, with over 500 in the MLB alone. Overall, Ichiro stats are much better than those of Rose.
@Jim McCracken So how was it that Ichiro.... had the same batting average in Japan as he did in the USA. According to you Japan is AA at best. Shouldn't he have hit much batter. Ichiro is the best all around player ever in baseball history. Much better than Rose.
Nobody is denying ichiro's amazing career. Everyone thinks Ichiro is a legit Hall of Famer,..a total stud. However, there is no way that Ichiro's Japan stats should be included. Nobody else's AAA stats get included. Plenty of American players did a stint in Japan,.. and those stats never get included. So why is it discussed with Ichiro. Its BS.
when you look at the actual video, there is no evidence whatsoever that rose was gonna slide. he just did what pete rose always did - rammed into the guy as hard as he could.
If you count Ichiro's hits in Japan then you have to count Oh's home runs in Japan (smaller fields in Japan = more home runs). For me, major league baseball is the American League and the National League.
Gambling is another great example of adults acting like children. Since forever, pro fighters have bet on themselves. Just a few weeks back a fighter proudly announced a $30k bet on himself (he won). So does that mean he threw his previous title fight because he didn't bet and lost or did he simply know he was facing a tougher match? So there's a debate on just how long Pete was betting before he was caught. Some say just after he became manager some say much longer. Either way, he got away with it and really only got caught because he was incredibly sloppy. Anybody with a drop of common sense HAS to know others have bet on themselves, through intermediaries, and never got caught. If guys take PED, steal signs systematically, doctor a ball, cork a bat, why is gambling the one rule they take as gospel? Guys talk about betting on other sports for crying out loud and we're so naive we think they don't bet on the sport they know best? C'mon man....
Hey Pete, you hit 200+ hits 10 different seasons, which is amazing! But Ichiro did it 10 years in a row. You're comparing greatness (you) to Godliness (him). But I do agree with you, his hits in Japan should not be counted here in the U.S.
Ichiro played in MLB from the age of 27 to 45. It that time period he had 3089 hits. If you take Pete Rose's stats from the age of 27 to 45 he has 3357 hits! Rose still out hit Ichiro!
And because some may complain that Ichiro's last two years shouldn't count, let's take Ichiro's MLB stats from the age of 27 to 43, and compare them to Rose's from the age of 27 to 43. Ichiro had 3080 hits. Rose had 3198 hits.
Pete Rose holds onto that hit king title dearly because that's the only thing that keeps him relevant and would say anything to downplay ichiro. Too bad ichiro is hit king its in the Guinness world record book now.
ty for saying it how it is, i respect ichiro and is a hall of famer for sure but is in no way the hit king. josh gibson hit almost 1000 homeruns in the negro league but no one calls him the homerun king
Pete would have more hits if they counted his minor league hits. Ichiro only has what he has because they count Japan, but MLB doesn't. Rose also holds quite a few other records as well. That's not his only record. He holds the record for the most 5 hit games, most 4 hit games, most 3 hit games, longest National League hitting streak and a few others. He's relevant. He'll always be relevant. It would have been nice to see what Ichiro would've done with a full career here, though.
Major League records: Most career winning games played - 1,972. Most career games played - 3,562. Only player to play at least 500 games at five different positions - 1B (939), LF (671), 3B (634), 2B (628), RF (595)
HAAHAHHAHAHA you really think that Pete Rose just sits around and the media come chase him? His whole income is on being "The Hit King." He wants to maintain recognition.
If you count ALL of professional baseball then you have to add Rose's 427 hits in the minors(all professional baseball) to make a total of 4683.Ichiro has 4358 as of 9-30-2017(3080 MLB-1278 Japan). If Ichiro could play maybe 3 more years he'll surpass Rose,no questions asked.
The hits record is for hits accomplished in the MLB major league. All records in any sport are for the league in which they occurred, not all time anywhere. That said, Ichiro is one of the greatest hitters ever. But he played 4 seasons more than Pete did.
I can see the argument from both sides; but Ichiro was way more consistent than pete rose, racking 200+ hits in 10 consecutive seasons, regardless of the 4 more seasons.
ichiro played a bunch of partial seasons towards the end where he didn't get many at bats, pete rose penciled himself in regularly as player manager. ichiro hit .311 in MLB and .353 in japan combined .322, rose only hit .303 in the majors.
Let Pete In! Let Pete In! LET PETE IN! Moronic idiots who wont allow him in Hall of Fame!!! Yes he screwed up. Yes he lied about it. But, no one can take away what he did on the field. Best player of my generation.
Jay Jay and just how many batting titles, hits, .300 avg years, 200 hit seasons. And if I am right, I believe Rese had 2 MVP seasons. Not a big deal one way or the other. But, if you want to argue, do it with someone else. You won't change my mind.
Brian Faltar I'm sorry but that's just wrong in my opinion. If you can't tell the story of baseball without mentioning someone's name that person should be in the hall of fame and you just can't tell the history of baseball with out mentioning Pete rose. Yes he did something wrong but him doing one wrong thing should not destroy his legacy in my opinion. Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions but that's just me and mine. It's the same reason nobody for the mid 90s is allowed to be in the hall of fame because they don't know who did and didn't use PEDs. It's the same reason TO can't get in to the NFL hall fame. It's just horrible logic and to not have the greatest hitter of all time in the hall of fame is just crazy in my opinion.
to be in the HOF, you can't just see the stats, you need to see the whole career as a human too. You can't just put a gambler to the HOF. That gives you younger players to think that playing dirty and getting more numbers will make 'em the HOF.
