Maybe the guy could have tried working out in the offseason... And don't give this it's bc other guys did steroids it magically made him get hurt and have one solid year after age 30....Griffey caught some bad breaks with the injuries, but he also didn't work out enough in the offseason.
Joey Thompson And that ball is hit deep to center and Griffey robs him!!! He just took a home run from the hitter. No way. Yes way and he even climbed the outfield wall to do it. I’ll always remember that old school Nike commercial where he runs out of the stadium to catch the ball.
I maintain to this day, had Junior stayed healthy for his entire career he would've easily eclipsed 800 homers and there would be zero doubt that he was the greatest ever.
The feels =(...Griffey was my all time favorite player. I tried copying his swing, always wanted to play center field, collected as many of his baseball cards as possible...I miss those days.
I was there for the one in 1994. Unfortunately, that was the last game of the 1994 season. The strike ruined his chance at passing Roger Maris naturally. It was also nice to see the Oakland Coliseum pre Mount Davis.
My man! I actually cried when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Been a fan since 1990 and waited for that day for over 20 years. Congrats, Junior!
Imagine if he used PEDs and remained healthy. No doubt he would have the single season and career HR records. Much respect to KGJ for not cheating in a time when nobody cared about it.
I remember in 94 when Matt Williams and Griffey Jr. we're on pace to break the single season HR record, then that damn strike happened. I think the record would have fell that year and without roids.
The 🐐. As a kid playing little league baseball most of the kids (myself included) would mimic his beautiful swing. Whether it was hitting a homerun or climbing the wall to rob someone of a homerun. Jr. made everything look so easy.
if he had used "performance enhancers" he would have recovered from all those Cincinnati injuries to continue entertaining fans. Instead we got to watch the other greatest left handed power hitter recover from injuries and hit homers thanks to performance enhancers.
Growing up a Yankee fan my entire life I remember just wanting to do everything The Kid did. That sweet smooth swing was the best. Wish injuries never derailed his career.
I'm a Cardinals fan but when I saw him hit his 500th homer against the Cards, I couldn't help but cheer. I feel fortunate to have grown up watching him play and he's one of my all time favorites. We'll never see a more beautiful swing than Griffey's.
I love the Marniers & my oh my ! Do I remember when the kid came up, he had a chocolate bar, those rookie cards and stuff with him on it, I was in 5th grade it was such a great time. What a career, what a man, what a mariner.
There's not a ball player in my lifetime that I miss watching as much as Griffey Jr. I was lucky to be able to see him from 20 rows back at Fenway as a kid. He hit an opposite field shot into the net over the monster that game, and a triple. I think he just missed the cycle that day.
I will never forget how much fun I use to have playing hr derby with Ken Griffey in every MLB video game. 600+ hrs in 20yrs with at least 6-8yrs battling bad injuries. True HOF’r.
I remember watching The Kid take BP at Fenway back in 1994 and he was fooling around swinging the bat RIGHT HANDED and hitting them over the Monster, effortlessly. It was unreal what Griffey could do with the stick.
smoothest swing in baseball and he was doing it without steroids unlike the rest of these clowns. truly an honor spending my childhood watching him blast homers out of the kingdome.
I can tell Griffey hit that homer against the Cardinals without even checking if that was actually the Cardinals. Buck has such a massive boner for that team.
Man baseball's greatest what if. What can't be denied is in a era full of juicers this guy stayed clean, and was just given the poor end of the stick in regards to injuries. Will always be my favorite player ever.
It's hard to think of a more mechanically beautiful swing. Everything about it was totally in-sync and smooth. Not sure there's a better exit from the batter's box than when Jr. laid into one and knew it. It's almost like he was swinging just so he could start his home run trot.
Let’s be honest. We all wore out hats backwards because of Jr. I still remember his hitting book that I got at Pizza Hut. Long live the legend. Smoothest swing in MLB history ⚾️
IM FROM CHICAGO AND GREW UP ON MICHAEL JORDAN FROM HIS 1st GAME. BUT WHEN I SAW KEN GRIFFEY JR. AND, I WAS NOT I REPEAT NOT IN ANYWAY INTERESTED IN BASEBALL, HE IS MY FAVORITE SPORT ATHLETE EVER. MICHAEL JORDAN IS 2nd! OMG!!! GRIFFERY. MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH BASEBALL! THE GREATEST AND THE MOST PUREST SWING I'VE EVER SEEN!
Griffey, Jr. did have an incredibly impressive swing. I saw him swing that bat so freakin' fast on a home run, that if you blinked, you woulda missed it. And that ball went at least 500 feet. It was totally freakin' awesome!
That 1994 homerun put him on pace to break the season HR record of 61 at the time. Matt Williams actually hit three more homeruns then Griffey Jr. that year with a total of 43.
Wife & I were in Seattle for a short holiday and the Kingdome was a short ride away.. Lets see a game. "3rd Inning: Bases Loaded: Griffey is in the one deck circle. Mike Felder, the batter ahead of him hits a single.. Run scores.. Griffey took a (A 1 - 1 count ) DEEP CF for a Grand Slam for his 7th consecutive game in a row" Next day he tied the record and had it not been for the stupid configuration to the centre field set up with the retractable NFL seating, he would have had 9 consecutive games on the 30th..
I dont know if there will EVER be a more NATURAL Swing or Swinger in MLB.... the Kid just had the absolute, most perfect, swing ive ever seen.... these days im impressed by Freddie Freeman and Ohtani's swings....
1989... I forgot he was a skinny kid. The Kid sure filled out over his career and looked more like his dad when he was done. There will never be another natural home run swinger like ever him again in the MLB.
Mariners lost the three best players of their time - A-Rod, Griffey and Randy - and still found a way to win more games than any other team in the history of baseball. That's so cool!
2:59 -- So he clinched his HOF plaque on Father's Day with good ol' dad in attendance! What I wouldn't have given back in the day if they had done a baseball themed Space Jam sequel (Space Slam) staring the player of the 90s!
