The biggest knock on Josh Hader is that he’s a one inning guy and when it comes to the playoffs there will be times where they might need to get six outs.

I think that’s more of an avoiding injury thing. Hader wasn’t gonna risk himself before free agency. If a team gives him the Diaz contract he’s all in.

If there were a salary floor instead of a salary cap it would force tightwad greedy owners to spend and remain competitive.

@jeffreyhumphries-jw2fo
@jeffreyhumphries-jw2fo 9 месяцев назад
@@RoeZaid I saw AJ on foul territory mentioned a salary floor and I felt it was a good idea. Only because some teams pocket the profits and refuse to pay enough to be competitive. Example for me would be Oakland A’s and Pittsburgh. Not singling them out but just examples.

Still think it’s funny how everyone was blaming Ohtani for holding up the FA market & it’s hardly budged since then. Boras is the hold up

No one thought about deferrals until Shohei chose the Dodgers and did his amazing contract with them. Any fanbase would’ve loved it if he did it for their team. Fuckin haters, man.

I think Josh Hader being a bit of a selfish diva and team cancer like we saw in San Diego is why he still hasn't been signed yet. Teams don't want a guy who is very overtly looking out for themselves before the team the way Hader did in SD.

Hader wants more than Edwin Diaz too
@aaronsandoval9304

I think it’s more nobody wants to pay a closer that much money. Interested teams are waiting for the price to come down..
@Massachamp08
@Massachamp08 9 месяцев назад
@aaronsandoval9304 We can also thank the Dodgers for running the price up so unsustainably high that no team can get a true market value for free agents either. Although Hader really did nothing to help himself at all outside of his likely outrageous monetary demands. Blake Snell is probably a similar situation where teams are not falling for his Cy Young from last season and notice his walk rate being pretty high, and I think he too wants a ridiculous contract. He is a Scott Boras client too, after all.

@@Massachamp08the dodgers running up the free agent prices? Stop being a clueless whiner, whiner. Like what Ohtani and Yamamoto got has anything to do with what Hader is asking for. No relation. Hader is a reliever that plays in 1 inning of 30% of games in a season (60+ innings). Ohtani is an elite 2-way player that multiple teams “ran up” the price on. The Dodgers didnt start off offering $700M, you idiot. 😂 Yamamoto is a young elite starting pitcher that will be used for 200 innings/season. The Dodgers didnt even offer the highest amount or AAV. THE Mets did at $325M for 10 yrs. You not very informed, newb.

Who cares if he “wants” to only pitch one inning? First of all closers almost never go more than one inning God forbid. And if he’s really needed to get a few more outs on a critical game it’s the managers call not his.
@Massachamp08

Amen to this. It should always be the manager's decision as to who plays, not the players themselves.

forget the last 20 years, go back to 1980, MLB has fewer back to back title winners than the NBA, NHL or NFL. Highest % of the league to have won a title in that time as well as to have made at least one championship.
@craigcavaliere6744

And only the NHL has had more teams make it to the finals since 2001. The expanded playoffs make it possible for small market/low revenue/cheap teams to compete.

One way of eliminating teams using deferred compensations is to make deferrals applied to the Luxury tax increase over time by a fair interest rate. So, defer 680 million today, apply the interest rate over the deferral period so its a much larger number. Those teams would have a major disadvantage of fielding a team under the Luxury tax in the future. The league could also cap the amount of deferrals because it will adversely impact those team's futures to compete.
@HKim0072
@HKim0072 9 месяцев назад
The media needs to start reporting the present day contract. Who cares what the number is in the future. Ohtani is getting paid $460M for 10 years. The deferred money goes into an escrow account. Ohtani is getting a 4.43% interest rate. Stop focusing on a number in the future.

This is why reporters should not be the only ones voting. Because you get nonsensical answers like this about creating culture being a reason why someone’s eligible for the Hall of Fame with less than 2000 career hits. Tori Hunter was the single greatest defender in centerfield for his entire generation. Better than Andrew Jones. And how to sustain Pete bigger than most of the defense of first players. And doesn’t even get a vote when he had a single vote left to give someone. I can’t respect this.

@@tridentgum0 As of the 2023 season, every active MLB franchise has qualified for the playoffs, especially since expansion of the playoffs in 1994 made that feat easier. The Tigers and the Angels are tied with the longest active postseason drought at 8 years while the Cincinnati Reds have the longest active postseason series-win drought at 27 years.[1] Long postseason droughts were ended recently by the Nationals (30 years for the franchise, 45 seasons over 78 years for the city, ending in 2012), the Pirates (20 years, ending in 2013), the Royals (28 years, ending in 2014), the Blue Jays (21 years, ending in 2015), the Mariners (21 years, ending in 2022), and the Phillies (11 years, ending in 2022).
