I would love to read a book authored by Mr. Sanders about his own life which has to be very interesting and also include a few of his best memories of Mr. Abbey.

Thank you, Mr. Sanders for this wonderful video. I learned about Edward Abbey in 1998 while canoeing from Westwater, CO to Fruita, UH. I was earning two General Studies credits at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, and found myself in the most remarkable hands of a professor (how I wish I remembered his name!) who had us all "barge" our canoes, slowly drifting while he read to us from Desert Solitaire. I will forever be grateful for the sounds of the Colorado River swishing by, listening to the words of someone who loved the Canyonlands beyond all. At the time, I thought if someone was an environmentalist, they must be a liberal. My late Uncle Frannie (God rest his soul), a die hard Republican, surgically cut out Abbey quotes to advance his position of being anti big-government, hence, not a Liberal. This all gave me a great deal to think about in my formative years...

Thanks for sharing. Abbey was a self professed anarchist, more libertarian than lib

Excellent video. Very informative, thank you for sharing this information. While I disagree with illegal acts and the destruction of property, I can understand Edward Abbey's spiritual pain and desperation coming from his deep love of the American West and his desire to preserve it. I am a westerner, born and raised, and wish to see the West preserved for future generations through educating the American public and good legislation. As a nature writer, Abbey has few equals.

He was a hero for me. I was a river rat in the ‘70s in the SW. I met him at the San Juan R. put in Bluff,UT..went to his memorial at Arches. Desert Solitaire. Monkey Wrenching, activities I blame on Cactus Ed. Thought of him lately at Lithic Bookstore,Fruita,CO..oh,I still have one of my old ammo cans, its got an old Belknap Grand Canyon River Guide in it. I blame Ed 😋 An aphorism (with dated photo) 25:36 25:36 guide always stuck with me and reminds of Ed Abbey ..”Girls grill golden brown pork chops where Powell party spread meager rations”. ~ Thanks Ken for the ammo can review.

This makes for good listening while I reorganize my ammo cans, count my ammunition, and sort through all of my adventure gear.

Where was the original spot where Abby's trailer located?

The trailer was behind the Balanced Rock in what is now a gravel pit for road maintenance. The original Arches dirt road came in that way from Hwy 191.
