I was just in havasupai in March. The tribe was fighting a proposed mine that would contaminate all their drinking water downstream. Of course the mine won and mined anyways somewhere around January of this year. Arsenic and uranium was released into their aquaphors. Therefor it is impossible for them to drink uncontaminated water without flying it in. Also visitors have to drink from the springs. This June many hikers got extremely sick and had to be flown out. It's just disgusting that the rich gets away with this.
He has been a North Star for me for decades, agreeing with his principles on almost all issues. I must note regarding his remarks on 'heavy breeders' - he sired FIVE children!
My wife and I tried to see him twice and ge cancelled both times. I'm glad I found his music. I'd love to see him live before he moves on from the struggles of this life
Loving the Ballad of Cactus Ed ...imagine he'd appreciate this 🎶 and add a few expletives about those ' Collared & Suited Thieves ' the 'deve-lopers ' 👿 glad that I've found you heartfilles Troubadours... keep a warbling & working your Magic ... monk

I just finished Desert Solitaire, which was written in 1968 - it rings just as true today in 2024. I'm so thankful to you for posting this interview from such a clear thinking and well spoken person. The issues he mentions are becoming increasingly critical, and need to be addressed. We need to wake up, and vote in people who will prioritize these environmental concerns. We need to take care of our planet! If only everyone would wake up, just a little bit, simplify, respect and care for the earth, we might be able to preserve what we've been given.
I am willing to believe that Butch and Sundance didn’t die 1908 in Bolivia. There are no solid facts which prove this to be true. However, this story about William T. Philipps sound fishy. He didn’t look like Butch, and I really don't think that plastic surgery at the beginning of the 20th century was able to alter faces that much. And the actions of Philipps don't prove that he was really Butch Cassidy. He might've had a lot of fun when he pretended to be the famous outlaw 😉
Yesterday I've heard Tom Russell for the first time, since a few hours ago I didn't knew that Tom and Ian wrote the 'Navajo Rug' together - and 15 Minutes ago i found this video, both together. I think that's a good run.. Lot of thanks for uploading such a jewel! Greetings from Germany! "Read, read, read..."
Great song and cowboy singer. Reminds me of my namesake, KD Reeves, rancher South of Santa Fe NM, after Louisiana and West Texas. Used to buy cattle from Texas, raced his horses with fellow ranchers, and enjoyed watching his cowhands try to break horses. His wife, my maternal Grandmother, told me how he taught a horse to watch the starter's trigger finger on the starting gun and got a jump on the other horses. She said they won a fair amount of money on his horses. I went back to where he was buried in Cottonport, LA and switched out his gravestone with the one his daughters had made which was too flowery. And, replaced it with one of him roping wild horses in a box canyon and noted, "The Last of the Real Cowboys." Kellus Sewell
Tom Russell is truly one of the greatest songwriters going. His insights, his irony, his perceptive sense of human nature and culture is simply phenomenal. This guy is a stand out who deserves far more accolades and appreciation than is the case. He is an American songwriter, singer, cowboy hero.
Love the music and the conversation, the great songs, and the presentation of the songs. I do want to point out one thing -- Tom says the that they, whoever they is, "edited out" the Gospel of Thomas, Actually, it was never a part of the Bible but was one of the so-called "Gnostic gospels" that were regarded as scurrilous and not included in any list of canonical books.
