Ken is definitely part of the Yankee Family after all these years in the booth. A great guy, clutch hitter, excellent broadcaster and a class act.

David Hutchinson I’m a lifelong Yankee fan but I love Kenny. He played with some of the greats. When Bobby and Kenny where up in the booth they would often talk about old times.

@@allencollins6031 Thurman Munson was a hall of fame player without question...However,if you were around in the decade of the 1970's as a baseball fan and autograph and baseball card collector like I was,you would say HELL NO,THURMAN MUNSON DOES NOT BELONG IN THE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME! Thurman Munson was mean,cruel,rude and hatefull towards some of his teammates,the sportswriters,baseball fans and autograph seekers and was probably the most miserable SOB in the history of professional sports...If Thurman Munson was not treating people like this he would have been elected to the baseball hall of fame in 1980 one year after his passing just like Lou Gehrig in 1941 and Roberto Clemente in 1972..

As a born Yankee fan from the 1970's I HATED Boston and The O's. They were hard core rivals. That said, I always suspected Ken Singleton to be a real class act. This video proves it. Thanks for an incredibly great story Mr. Singleton. You were a great player, but an even better person.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Mr. Ken Singleton. You're all correct - he is a gentleman's gentleman and a class act. Friendly, generous with his time, and makes you feel like you're an old friend when you're meeting him for the first time.

I’ve seen this interview multiple times before but it’s so worth watching again as a lifelong Yankee fan and a big Ken Singleton fan, career-wise but especially as a Yankee broadcaster all these years; I was also such a huge Thurman Munson fan and used to have number 15 on the back of all my softball jerseys over the years and I cherish my Munson home and away Yankee jerseys (and back in the day in high-school and college, I used to grow my mustache just like his and do the sideburns as well)

Thurmon Munson lives on. A friend on my softball team also wears number 15 for Munson, as his father did. In a few years time, the grandson will wear it as well 👍

Humble, modest Kenny doesn't even mention that he hit a 2-run HR in that game. Guy's always been a true class-act. Wish he was still calling games.

Tim Carroll great player but the career cause of what happened was to short. You can make a very strong case as you said if what happened didn't happen he'd probably be in Cooperstown but you asked why & all I can think of is his career was to short cause of what happened.
@briang3563
@briang3563 5 лет назад
jesusisnotallright s Agreed. Tragic story but that doesn't erase the rude attitude towards fans and sports writers. Very good catcher better than average hitter I've heard good team mate. That being said the shortened career plus the attitude towards non players keep him out of Cooperstown. The hall originally was intended for the top notch legends. Unfortunately just about anyone with above average career is usually inducted. Someone like Dwight Evans with all those golden gloves, impossible catches that are still shown quite often, incredible arm gunning down runners from the wall without bouncing,and many clutch homeruns plus the long career and great attitude deserve induction much more than Munson. But I wish it had been reserved for the top %5 ty Cobb,Ruth, Aaron ,Mays,Ryan Ted Williams, Koufax etc. That's what it was meant for

This was not the first game after Caps death. The first game was Friday night 8/3 and the Yanks lost 1-0. Misleading title Yes Network. We lost the first two games of the series and won the last two.

That wasn't the first game after Thurman's death. The first game was a Friday night 8/3 and the Yankees lost 1-0. Mike Flanagan vs. Luis Tiant who pitched his heart out but got beat on an opposite filed homer from John Lowenstein. I know, Thurman was my man and I was there crying my eyes out and hugging other Yankee fans who had been in shock until seeing the empty Catcher's box. The speakers had " Cavatina", the haunting theme from the "Deerhunter" playing throughout. One of those moments in my life that I will never forget.

The game where Singleton references the Yankees comeback and Mercer's walk-off hit was actually the finally of the series and came the date of Munson's funeral. The first game after Munson's death was won by Baltimore 1-0.

I felt if Munson had lived they would’ve won two more World Series 1980 and 1981. There was no way the Yankees would’ve lost that ALCS to Kansas City in 1980 nor the World Series to Philadelphia that year (as good as the Phillies were) and there’s no way they would’ve blown a two game lead to the Dodgers in 1981 like they ultimately did. It’s definitely one more run in the Yankees. I felt Munson’s death accelerated the break up of that Yankee Bronx Zoo Team.

I think he would have wound up managing the Tribe after retiring sometime in the early to mid 1980's. He loved being a Yankee, but he really missed being home, and I think the pull of his family would have kept him closer to home.

Singleton was gypped out of the MVP in 1979. And, yeah, for a few years there the Brewers were in it too, more than the Red Sox. They were a tough team. They belong back in the American League.

I don't know what they're talking about. The first game after Thurman's death was a 1-0 win by the Orioles, on Aug. 3, 1979. The game that Murcer had 5 RBI was the final game of the 4-game series with the Orioles, on the same day as Thurman's funeral, on Aug. 6. Orioles won the first 2 games of that series and the Yankees won the next 2.

I think it’s a decent question because you don’t want to lose as a player and competitor but after a tragedy like this it’s bigger than the game. So you can take the loss better knowing how much the win means to the Yankees
