I was prompted to watch this among other youtube video about the B-58 because one of the few remaining B-58's is not far from me on display at the Grissom AFB. They are looking to house it in a new museum according to today's newspaper article. I was in the air force from 1966 to 1970 and was a trained egress technician (ejection seats). I remember being certified for the B-58. It had an escape capsule vs. a rocket seat on rails (oversimplified) . Interestingly, a calm woman"s voice would alert the crew of an emergency and need for ejection...never will forget that. I also made a model of it back in the 50's when a youngster...one of my favorites!
Hi Dan, Hope you enjoyed the video. We had been working to get the one at Chanute here but it did;t work out. These interviews were at a reunion here in Fort Worth.
@@FtwAviationMuseum I was stationed at Chanute AFB in the early part of 71, and I used to go over to the B-58 and just day dream about flying in a plane like this.. I left Chanute AFB and went to Castle AFB.. they have a museum at Castle and I always wondered if they got the B-58 that was at Chanute.. Would you possibly know? Thx for sharing this story...
@@FtwAviationMuseum wow, it would be interesting to see that plane again after 50 years.. I want to visit that area again.. I will enjoy seeing my old friend again... There is a woman that made a video of Castle AFB (about 40 min long) and she takes you down all the streets and I saw the dorm that i stayed in and as she panned the camera to the left, I saw my old room that I lived in for about 2 years.. I was immediately flooded with many memories...Thx for letting me know about the B-58..God Bless and take care...
Plane never would have existed without the research done on the CF-105 Arrow.. As the Canadians had to use the USAF wind tunnel.. They were surprised to see a stable delta wing. That could do Mach 2....
You Canadians refuse to let go of the Arrow. The 106, was famous, for getting there the fastest, with the mostest. The Arrow, would be hooking up with a tanker. Here are the facts. America was developing the Delta's in the 40's. The Convair XF-92 (re-designated from XP-92 in 1948) was an American, delta wing, first-generation jet prototype. Originally conceived as a point-defence interceptor, the design was later used purely for experimental purposes and only one was built. However, it led Convair to use the delta-wing on a number of designs, including the F-102 Delta Dagger, F-106 Delta Dart, B-58 Hustler, the US Navy's F2Y Sea Dart as well as the VTOL FY Pogo.
Imagine if they had hi bypass engines and "super cruise." The Canadian Arrow was cancelled along wit a batch of social service functions by an incredibly Reaganesque , one term Canadian Prime minster. All of my Canadian cousins think Diefenbaker was a dolt.
