Meet the grams felt like a horror film. It totally fit the night theme because when I woke up, I thought it was a fucking nightmare, bro. I couldn’t believe that was real.
Kendrick is crafting this Drake tirade just like he crafts his albums. Diverse, well thought out, thought provoking, interwoven, thematic, cinematic, theatrical, and full circle.
Kendrick is turning Drake into an album Like That (Teaser) Euphoria (Intro) 6:16 in LA (Freestyle) Meet the Grahams (Slow song) Not Like Us (Radio Hit) Outro gon be crazy
Lord Jesus, Drake was dead after Euphoria, Family Matters almost gave him a glimpse of light, but MEET THE GRAHAMS literally buried him, & Not Like Us is the wake……………. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The other layer to the” I see dead people” line is in reference to the fact that he’s battling ghost writers as well. The final layer to “ I-see dead people” is the fact that he’s essentially lyrically killed Drake and his team.
the dead people line i believe is reference to drake saying "Ya Dead" on Family Matters and to me thats kendrick saying that he has been on the edge, basically like "i see dead people" is saying he been ready to crashout on drake.
I think Kendrick is going to eventually reveal Drakes ghostwriter for back to back. It’s reported that Battle Rapper Daylt wrote Drakes Back to Back, if that’s the case Daylyt is a West Coast artist and is aligned with TDE. If a reference track comes out it’s a wrap
Remember years ago that in an interview, Snoop said that kendrick is chill backpacker but dont mess with him, cause he still from the west coast... well, he knew.
The different styles Kendrick has used in these songs are so versatile. This club/mainstream flow and beat to flip it on Drake is hilarious and effective , really made it to a shuffle/dance
THANK YOU ROB. Seriously, you are appreciated and we respect the things you have to say. The work you have put in for so many years is a testament to your ability to talk on things like this from an even perspective.
The Euphoria line with Joel Osteen and Joel Osment is about the movie Sixth sense Kendrick having a sixth sense. Kendrick is saying is he battling Joel Osteen (Drake) or is he battling Ghosts referencing Drakes ghost writers he’s confused like he’s “confusing” Osteen and Osment either way he’ll “off-him” which is a play in words Osteen-Osment-Off-Him. It goes deeper than that but this is the gist. Kendrick is a certified genius. Modern Day poet if this was the 1800’s we’d be taking about him being one of the best poets of all time. But because it’s rap it doesn’t get the Worldwide respect that it deserves. To be fair most poets didn’t receive notoriety while they were alive.
Bruh that’s without being said which I appreciate that We already knew this. I said the greatest in comparison to every poet or writers including nonrappers Including Cummings, Poe, Silverstein, Whitman, modern rappers will never receive that love.
Kendrick is versatile in his diss tracks. Drake last diss he said drop…drop…drop. So…Kendrick is. Also he said “Ya dead’ in the end of his last diss. So Kendrick in the beginning of Not Like Us says “I see dead people”
I saw on Twitter that Drake's Teenage Fever song on more life is in the key of A Minor... Could be a coincidence but Kendrick been going crazy with the entendres so wouldn't discount it
Been watching all your vids on this feud. This song is the banger that Kendrick needed to get played in the clubs and take over the mainstream IMO. The beat and flow on it is insane.
The last time I heard “I see dead people” in an intro was The Game’s One Blood and that record for me put the west coast and specifically Compton back on the map heavy. I feel like it’s somewhat a call back to that era of west coast hip hop and its takeover. If you listen back to that record, there’s definitely some interesting parallels.
There was an interview that Wayne admits that this happened when he was in jail. I’m starting to believe that most of Drake’s issues stem from him trying after everyone’s woman
Rob, I salute you for covering this entire series in the most digestible and intelligent way I've seen online. Both of these artists put in great work and you have done a great job dissecting the bars fam. Salute to you from a true fan of Hip Hop. ✊🏾😎
Somebody gonna hurt from this because of how deep and personal how these diss tracks from Drake & Kendrick is coming out. J Cole made the smartest decision by staying away from all this because this got messy and dark real quick
Rob you are putting in work over there! You being independent is the best thing that could have happened, now you are able to give us your thoughtful opinions in real time. I appreciate the diligence brother.
That side A is a double meaning. Side A on tapes was where the commercial radio friendly songs are found. Side B is usually the more traditional closer to underground hip hop sound.😊
I think Kendrick did a great work on breaking down his initial stance on Drake being a "colonizer" who's been exploiting the black culture through Atlanta. That was genius, and hits harder cuz it's kinda true
I heard the "Meet the Grahams" beat was in "A minor" this one was in "B minor" which gives significance to the Up the "Score" bar. He upped the score from A minor to B minor
Keeping up wit this and dropping content that dissects these tracks, no matter the hour of the day is insane. Glad I subbed to you cause I hope this make your channel go through the roof brother.
I Met You Through Genius & Didn’t Even Know About Your Prior Work. But Honestly You’re The Goat Of The Music Journalism. Hope You Find A To Monetize Your Talent More Independently. 🙏🏿🙏🏿 BLESSINGS
So I was leisurely listening to Angela Yee show the other day then all of a suddenI heard ur voice I got so excited and surprised at the same time. Keep the videos coming
Rob, I've seen you around before but I've really appreciated this opportunity to find your voice and level-headed journalism during this beef... Love these breakdowns
I dont see drake coming back from this at all. He burnt his bridges and he wasnt ready for this. I underestimated drake’s intelligence, i thought he was smart enough to know kendrick is playing chess and he should’ve been more than ready. Smh end of an era
As a rapper you gotta feel him on mixing up Joel Osment lmao. I’ve wrote mad verses with a movie reference and go to Wikipedia like “damn that ain’t him”. But.. AI can’t replicate that. They’d correct it. lol not saying that he did it with that in mind but just a thought
It's not a misnomer/mistake, but it's a homophone, not to focus on how it's written yet its audible inflictions. He was playing on both names to setup a triple-entendre relating to Ghostwriters, Ghosts (Tupac), and A.I.
There’s a few doubles that went over people heads. That chubs hand me downs line … Dot saying chubs like under age girls too. The sweet chin music won’t pass the aux line… Aux sounds like OX , slang for box cutter. Alluding to cutting Drake face up like they would a snitch / S.O. In jail !! Reach? 🤷🏾♂️
Yes tho!! I knew you would be on it. Kendrick making it to where folks can't sleep! I watched part 1 of your MTV interview with Kedrick from TPAB and how it was initially TPAC. Great stuff as always! Glad i found the channel and didnt realize it was so much cool content i hadn't got to.
It was pretty even up until this record IMO. Kendrick wasnt stopping but Push Ups and Family Matters were just crazy songs. But for Kendrick to take the feedback that his shit isn’t replayable and come back with this? Total Bay Area banger that gets people dancing to OV-Hoe? Just crazy. I don’t know how Drake’s gonna reply to this but can’t wait.
Yo rob, thank you for doing what you do. When I saw your RU-vid channel I recognized your name from being around the industry for so many years. Respect the portfolio, and recognize how you evolving with the times. It’s about your own name more than what you’re tied to in the age of social media. And your name holds weight from he positions you held in the past. Keep up these videos, the following will come.
I think ya right about that how many black features till you feel black enough was more about artist features it becomes a double b/c the ppl assume it’s physical with all the surgery talk. Technically though he runs from his black features with surgery by getting his nose slimmer so the artist angle is think was closer to his meaning and a foreshadowing to this
For the record. I don’t believe he got his nose done. But i am always oblivious to things like that, like when all the celebrity women get accused of that, i could never tell. I dunno. I don’t be paying that much attention to drake’s face like THAT. But i don’t believe he got it done
I feel like Dot released this in response to anyone who said Drake beat him with Family Matters because they gon’ play it on the radio and in the club, so Dot was like oh yeah I’ma double down and make a street banger that’s a club banger at the same time z!, I just love when Dot is this focused and and active in dropping music My favourite pre Kendrick Lamar- KDot project is definitely his Training Day mixtape
I don’t believe we thought Kendrick couldn’t keep up. He’s writing and recording almost everyday. It’s just the paperwork that delays almost everything
