Taken from the 75th anniversary of the Nihon Kobudo Shinkokai, Tokyo, on the 15th August, 2010. One of the more well known traditonal kenjutsu styles, Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto-ryu.
@DrInsane44 My Japanese isn't so great either but, a few seconds before, they mention Muso Gonnosuke Katsuyoshi, the founder of Shinto Muso Ryu jojutsu and allegedly the only person ever to defeat Musashi. Muso Gonnosuke was a Menkyo Kaiden of TSKSR.
when you watch the old videos of otake risuke doing these kata its much more powerful and dynamic. like he was actually cutting with each move, like even tho it was kata it looked as if it couldve been real. but when you watch his son and the other guys doing it now its much less dynamic and it looks like theyre just tapping bokuto. like their arms are moving but their bodies are kind of motionless. its kind of starting to look like the other koryu schools that have these formulaic, ritualisti
So what is Kenjutsu the initial practice of? I get Iaido is the practice of attacking from the draw of your sword and Batto-Jutsu is art of Cutting, So what does that make Kenjutsu?
Someone who knows Japanese better than my self. Can you please tell me why Musashi was mentioned? @0:33 I hear Musashi and lesson (じゅうぎょう). ごまなさい、 私の日本語はよくないです。
I'm confused... Please explain to a western observer why it seems perfectly acceptable for an announcer to speak over someone's demonstration here. Granted, this practice is not done at all demonstrations but at a fair number of them and none of the eastern audiences seem to mind. My western eyes and ears however, do seem to find this unnecessary and downright distracting. As an audience member, I would like take in, absorb, and appreciate the purity of the visual presented by the hardworking martial artists who work tirelessly to present it to me........and it all gets bogged down by some IDIOT who wants to treat this like some documentary done live. Correct or Correct? Please educate me. Some perspective would help.
the techniques are hidden inside the kata... only members of the Art can understand the real techniques behind these Kata... in the old times thoses styles are Military secret, only the members of the school are allowed to know the secrets... outisiders can not understand it...
