Jojutsu is such a great discipline. I mean you hear stick-fighting and think to yourself it's just a lot of bashing people with a club, but there is so much more to it, just look at all those throws and holds using the jo for leverage.
Dude, there is really noone who can be proclaimed the "creator" of the jojutsu art. Its like trying to pin-point the creator of the sword: It simply cant be done. However! The creator of the "Shinto Muso-Ryu" jojutsu ryu, was a man named Muso Gonnosuke. He was borned in the late 1500's. His legacy was the stick-art "Shinto Muso" school, featuring the "Way of the stick", which has been preserved to this day (for better or for worse).
While I can't really judge as there are a number of valid different ways to interpret SMR I can say that shidachi's kamae (when done with a zenkutsu dachi) looks aggressive. I doubt that is the look one should give uchidachi.
