Are the 158s suposed to get hot after half an hour of sewing?

It depends on a number of things. I assume you are talking about the motor. After an hour of pretty consistent sewing the motor will get warm but it should not be hot enough to feel like it will burn you. There are a number of things that can cause the motor to overheat. A belt that is too tight or a machine that has drying oil and grease are two of the most common causes.

I don't intend to be critical, but for what it's worth to anyone, that grease is holding the shape of the gears and to my way of thinking, it's too old. I don't believe that grease was changed for decades, maybe 50 years. No grease that's 50 years old is still grease. It once was grease, it's no longer grease. It most certainly wasn't that colour or viscosity when it was first installed. For the sake of less than $1 in new grease, I would fill the grease cup with something like SuperLube Synthetic.
