Even in 1993 J Mascis has been around The block many times in the music industry. He’s only 28 in the interview. Now I get that people that play guitar don’t think they sound better than anyone else who plays guitar but J Mascis is leagues better at guitar then Neil young. It’s crazy how good he is at guitar
"I feel your pain." "Really?" God this interview is such a microcosm of the 90s. I miss this shit. Long live J. Mascis. "One of the songs was really sad." "Aww"
I've watched enough J interviews to have arrived at some theories about this, because he does this in other interviews too. I really think it's that he'll start an interview and he's just being himself, but this almost never works for the interviewer, and some are more off put by his personality than others, so then he tries to correct for it and sometimes overcompensates. It actually shows that he's not really as much of an asshole as some people claim, nor is he aloof. It's actually just him making an effort for the benefit of the interviewer. J has conceded in interviews over the years that people very often don't know how to take him and that as a younger person he was a bit of an asshole that often upset people. It was either that or people thought he was weird, or an acid burnout/stoner, even when he was straight edge. lol. So it's not like he's unaware.
especially back then. he's opened up a lot more over the years it seems. back then he gave one word answers and showed literally zero emotion at all times
My goodness these where the best days ever! I saw Alice N Chains open for Ozzy September 22nd 1992…I was 21 years old and boy did we work hard and partied even harder back then.
No VJ ever knew how to interview. Every single MTV interview I have ever seen has always been extremely akward, no matter how much I like the VJ. These interviews are so painful. Jeeze, research folks... come up with questions... hold some flash cards. I think Kurt Loder might have been the only guy on MTV that ever conducted actual interviews.
There are people who had the hots for Daisy or Kennedy. I was all about Kennedy. These alternative nation videos make my heart flutter…yeah, I’ve had a few Chardonnay’s what of it?
Lou Barlow is only a shard more extroverted than J. Can you imagine those 2 on tour together? Of course, they seem like such nice, relatable guys compared to, say, the DBs in Metallica for example.
10:00 "Dinosaur Jr. are back to their original trio format... " (does he mean 3 people in a band, or 3 original members in the band )? Because following his sentence he talks about the new bass player in that trio format... confused with choice of wording. Lou Barlow was the original Trio. Or did they have more members before meaning it wasn't a trio people wise. Man I just gave myself a headache.
What a god awful interviewer I understand he’s not super extroverted but it seems like she didn’t do any research at all wish they took better advantage of the opportunity
@@BrooklynBaby100 Well I just saw it again two days ago and it's still one of the worst interviews I've ever seen, and it's not J's fault. Time hasn't changed anything. Are YOU Kennedy?
interviews r a stupid set up. if u walked up to j out in the real world acting the way mtv personalities act, he would run, most people would & yet here he is volunteering to this dumbing down of everyone involved. he said at 13 he decided to drop out of society, by age 16 he has a radio show at a MAJOR UNIVERSITY, explain his entre? Here he’s being interviewed by the ultimate not dropped out of society channel. People posing as counter cultural with signature guitars by fender available at guitar center.
