Before his fame as a TV comedian, Marty Feldman was a very fine writer of radio comedy with his writing partner Barry Took ( who was head of BBC Comedy when Monty Python’s Flying Circus). Their songs for Kenneth WillIam’s wonderful Rambling Syd Rumpo are comedy gold.
Although no one could deliver these songs as well as Ken. The credit for there content must be given to Marty Feldman and Barry Took who wrote all of 'Syd's' songs.
I was an apprentice to a Sussex Bogler. All went well until in my 8th year I was tasked with grunderling the nadgers, oh my deary o, I made a right dogs dinner of the affair and was sent away and told never to darken these parts again. Luckily a local Cordwangler took me on and I finished my apprenticeship at the age of 72. My wages increased from a shilling a week to 4 shillings and 9 pence which helped pay for the wife's funeral and still left me enough for a couple of pints of Ale and a weekly posset. Happy times. 😊 came to
"On 3 July 1967, Williams, in the guise of Rambling Syd, recorded a series of the songs before a live audience at Abbey Road Studios. In his diary, Williams wrote that "the laughter was so intrusive it broke up the rhythm of some of the songs". One of the producers told Williams that the audience had been given a party before the recording and most were drunk." (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rambling_Syd_Rumpo)
Thank you so much for this. I used to listen to this in the car with my parents when I was dinky, it's great to hear it again, how very thoughtful of you.
