Man, imagine if Drazen Petrovic didn't die. That early/mid 90's New Jersey Nets team would have been great, with Kenny Anderson, Derrick Coleman, and Drazen Petrovic.
@@jsmidash Yeah, they could have been great. The year after Petrovic was killed, the Nets actually improved by 2 games and were once again a playoff team. Both Coleman (20 ppg,11 rpg) and Anderson (19 ppg and 9 apg) were All-Stars. Add a third All-Star that could average 22-25 ppg and they would have been right there challenging for the Eastern Conference Championship.
@@jsmidash Adding an in his prime All-Star to a 45 win team could have got them anywhere from a 1 seed to a 4 seed. In 93-94 there was no dominant team in the East or the NBA for that matter. Having 3 young all-stars on your team would be huge. Obviously in this fantasy, I am ignoring the team chemistry issues that plague the Nets after Petrovic death.
Yes and how mad were all Kenny fans when dumb Bill Fitch sat him on the bench in favor of Mookie Blaylock his rookie year. Blaylock was no bum but come on.....
“The move” was so tough because he was chest to chest with Hurley. I went ballistic when I watched this live in college. One of the toughest college guards. Chris Jackson is right there as well!
That's what's glossed over, the closeness. Hurley was so close that had he simply reached he would've had a good chance at disrupting the dribble but the move was so swift that Hurley was understandably frozen by it.
Cheryl is Jackson canhead back to where he came from. Hurley was better than both. In the game where Tech got eliminated in '91, Anderson was terrible (8-28), yet he just kept shooting jumpshots.
Naw, it still looks smooth asf. No carry, no cradling & it was crazy quick. Behind the back, between the legs, behind the back again, froze him, then went right past Hurley & added the nice finish.
Kenny Anderson is one of the most talented basketball players in history. He used to destroy NBA players in the park when he was just 12 years old. Every school in the country wanted him
Adam Price yeah bro, I’m Duke all the way... but Kenny, put on a clinic. Bobby Hurley, is a very underrated PG though for real! I’ve followed him since his days at St. Anthony’s in JC. State champs back-to-back. Give the man his props too 🤔
for all that is saying that the move wasn't all that you gotta be young as hell. consider this. ....that was in a time when they actually called carries. he straight up had the ball on a string
I remember lethal weapon 3. Thats what they called kenny anderson brian oliver and dennis scott. I remember when GT played LSU in the first round of the ncaa tournament. With a young Shaq at the time. LSU had them down like 19 points or something like that in the 4th quarter. That was til Kenny Anderson put the team on his back. Came back and won the game. Ended up losing in the final four i think. Cant remember to who. But yeah Kenny Anderson was dat dude. Im from the south. NC to be exact. Saying that to say.. He had lil dudes in my neighborhood wanting to be him
@Jalil Johnson yea fam.. I’m from Indiana we had a nationwide family reunion 1990 In Atlanta. I was only in the 7th grade. my other cousins was like we got a meet Kenny.. Kenny Anderson?.. from Georgia Tech? They was like yea.. it was crazy.. the media was the trying to interview him.. nuts.. I asked him why did he do Bobby Hurley like that.. he was like he’s all hype.. I had too 🤣🤣🤣
Kenny Anderson was one of my favorite college players of all time. I remember this game like it was yesterday. KA was bustin Hurley ass all night. I loved it. P.S. Check out KA's mid range game. That is a lost art in todays game.
@@mikerivers695 The era was different and PG' needed to handle the rock and distribute down to the post. He had 3pt range, but balance was what made him so good.
I've watched this a million times and still til this day or never gets old! I fell in love wit Chibbs when he hit the 3 to take MSU into OT the year B4 in the Tourney. I wore a yellow mouth guard, part in the middle of my head, changed my shot, etc.....at the time Everybody wanted 2 be like Mike, However this kid from Lefrak Jamaica Queens was my basketball idol
Speaking for those who gave a thumbs down, that was just directed at the title. There was no need to denigrate Hurley, who is an all-time legend and played very good defense in this game. Re-title it "Kenny Anderson's big game" or "Sick moves by Kenny Anderson against Duke" or something and it's thumbs up for me and probably all of us.
Before there was Rafer Alston...there was Kenny Anderson. Kenny is the first I remember casually dribbling between his legs and behind his back during big games. He is also the first guard I remember using lean and body position to draw contact while driving through the lane.
@@jonny15dk You must not have watched a lot of Georgia Tech games when Anderson was balling out. He had consistently high assist numbers when he was in the NBA. Check your facts bruh
Way to go chopping up this game to show the Kenny Anderson highlights!!! The "MOVE" will forever go down as one of the more spectacular moves in basketball history in my opinion! Kenny also did a move during the 1990 Goodwill Games or World Championship Games that was comparable to this move! Can't find it anywhere! He was a tremendous pg in high school and college. He had some success in the pros, especially with Chuck Daly, but never panned out like I thought he could. Great upload!
Great clips. I played against Kenny once (I'm from NY) and I can tell you he was 100x this in high school. No one could stop him. He definitely tailored his game for college which is what a lot of prodigies have trouble doing. Big ups to Cremins for that.
Yooooo throw back wow in highschool we watch that move over and over then went to the park try hit somebody with that same move on the basketball court New York baby lol can't beat it
Nah the move @ 5:33 now thats a move , behind the back , between the legs to behind the back again on the fastbreak and the hoop. I NEED to go out and practice, got work to do!
+Dwight Cook Well mine actually is so I suppose lightening can strike in different places...lol. Then again maybe you're blind and believe anything people tell you, about yourself and basketball.
Nobody is saying that Hurley wasn't Shit but Kenny Anderson was a Scoring PG, Bobby was more Conventional!!! Kenny will go down in the Books as One of the Best Scoring PG's Ever
@Walter Sanders Then you weren't a basketball fan when you were younger. I'm 53 and remember him clearly. Hell, I was watching him and GT play my Wolfpack in the late 80's in person.
@Adam Price Hurley was never better than KA. Crack is wack. Hurley had better team mates in college.Sorry that he got hurt, but prior to that accident it was obvious that his game didn't transition to the NBA, like a lot of Duke players at that time. In 20 games he averaged 7.1 pts, 6.1 ast, 37% shooting, 12.5% 3PT.
I still like seeing the great plays and players that the ACC has had over the years. Duke got the last laugh though...a couple times with National Championships. A couple of those GT teams from back then should've too - they were stacked!
Kenny A is a legend. I remember coming to lefrak City when i was a kid to play in his tournament and he said I was gonna be Nice and possibly make it to the League. Even though that didn't happen. I was still an elite Basketball player. #Salute to the Legend.
Hurley fouled him three times on that shake n bake, but didn't it look like Hurley was still pouting after he was dribbling the ball back up the floor as if the refs, not him, let Anderson score on him...again. 🤔 😂
Kenny Anderson in my opinion was the best college point guard I ever saw he was big time in NEW YORK then he just took over college basketball...he’s the reason why steph went to Georgia tech aslo
I miss these days of ACC Basketball. It’s been awhile since I heard Dicky V from 30 years ago . Geez he sure could carry on . I don’t miss that part too much 😂.
Nobody gonna mention how close Hurley was to him when he started putting the moves on him. It was Ike the we’re in a phone booth together. That was insane. Better than anything Curry, Harden or any of today’s players can do. Only Kyrie is better in close quarters dribbling like that. You can tell when someone is working on their handles “Curry” as opposed to some one who has innate skills. Curry handles are good but he always looks like he’s trying hard. Kyrie looks like it’s 0 effort. Kenny probably has one of the most not trying at all handles along with Rod Strickland and Isiah Thomas (the real one).
Dribbling in close quarters is kinda James Hardens schtick. he needs you close to him to set up his Step back. They should just put 3 points on the score bored automatically when he does that 😂
@@90s-is-the-golden-era its a legit move. not a travel. its just really technical. Technique, you know that one thing older basketball didnt have as much of because the game wasn't as developed?
@@Darrytheprince Bruh...dude changes his pivot almost every time he "steps" back. Maybe they lied to me all those years ago when I played in the post about moving your pivot foot.
@@jamesmayden2155 It was wierd to me at first. but even NBA refs have covered it and explained why its not. look it up. Its just a really technical move and why they call it on players who don't execute it right
Hurley Was A Great College Point Guard and a Winner, but Kenny was a Superstar with moves NOBODY could stop, Just a Hell of a Game By Anderson, and Lucky win by Duke and Hurley.
The ACC was a slaughterhouse in those days. Duke, UNC, Wake Forrest, GA Tech, Virginia, Maryland. All those teams were REALLY good. ACC and Big East basketball was phenomenal.
Bobby hurley was a grinder I respect his ethic he's a coaches son and got to Duke and played real well but he's clearly over matched here... Kenny would shake any NBA guard his handles were world class plus his size and quickness made him impossible to stay in front of.
@Adam Price By "flashy" you mean talented and gifted anyone can see the superior ball handling, speed and hand eye coordination of Kenny Anderson over 99% of basketball players who've ever picked up a basketball it's not a mystery Kenny was an all world guard at the age of 16.
@Adam Price Lmao off course the 4yr sample size of Bobby hurley stats didn't support your argument so you skip that and go to a miniscule 20 games sample size !! That suites your argument Lmao nice try!
@Adam Price ok so now I see your issue you don't like NBA style point guards who break defenses off the dribble via isolation that's fine you should've just said that from the beginning lol... Bobby Hurley is a traditional point guard way less talent and definitely not an NBA style point guard which makes sense because his NBA career a grand total of 5 seasons 3ppg and 3assist vs Kenny Anderson 12 seasons 12ppg 7assist including yrs where he averaged 18ppg 8assist.
@Adam Price Bobby Hurley played 5 NBA seasons from 1993-98 his rookie yr was the accident it was a very bad accident which he survived and made a comeback he was never going to be a great NBA pg he never was that type of player he was best suited for college in where he had a great career.
Bob Hurley Jr. was one of the best (if not the best) college point guards. He got in an auto accident which he couldn't recover from after he was drafted. I was a Kenny Anderson fan but Hurley was another special point guard that could have had a good career in the NBA. Kenny had some good seasons with the Nets and earn some monies. Notice the score was close throughout while Kenny was scoring? Those early 90's Duke teams where very good. Noticed how Iverson stopped in his second season in the NBA with his famous cross-over? Well, rumor is league officials took a close look during the off season and deemed it palming or a travel- which is correct. I wouldn't be surprised if vets like Jordan and Pippen (eastern conference rivals to Phila) complained. But Iverson learned to become a Hall of Framer without the cross over.
Man there were non better in college than Chibes! He also had great showdowns with other elite pg's that year like Chris Jackson and Greg Anthony! Peace and love from Chicago!
Loved the Duke-Tech games when Kenny Anderson was playing, especially the three games vs. Anderson, Brian Oliver, and Dennis Scott aka "Lethal Weapon 3". Btw, Duke won this game 77-75. Anderson was the better player than Hurley but Duke had the better teams.
Kenny was a beast in college. Super quick, great ball handler and left handed. He had a nice NBA career but he didn’t quite live up to the promise he should have had a HOF career
