Hahaha! I guess I'm not the only one who checks out welds. I also check nuts, bolts, screws, etc. I hate to find missing washers or a regular nut that should have been a locknut. I think that compressor will no doubt serve you well. I have a few Makita power tools that all proved to have quality. I have my share of other named brands too. I too read reviews, but some of those people will fault a product because they tried to used it for something it wasn't supposed to be used for. Or it failed because they over taxed it. I like the looks of this compressor. I just replaced a Craftsman that I had for about 25 years. It was a little smaller than the one on your show, but it did have its own cart. I now have a Pancake Porter Cable. It does what I need it to do and it came with a stapler and two different size nailers. I like it, but I wish I would have stuck with the 3/8 hose instead of now having a 1/4 inch one. I have a lot of 3/8 parts , accessories, and a nailer that I never used. LOL, it is 25 years old and never used lol. Enjoyed your show, take care!

Buying a tool and not checking out the welds is like buying a car and not kicking the tires. LOL. You gotta check it all out. Thanks for tuning in Michael. It's a shame about your unused tools. Almost makes me wanna cry. LOL. Thanks for chiming in with your comment.

Make sure and buy an extra regulator. You will need it in a year or so. Also, find an additional quart of 20 wt. oil. Oil changes need to be done frequently!! Otherwise, it’s a great compressor!

I own the same compressor. I love it. Refill is far faster and keeps up. I made a 1/2 inch plywood board to mount a filter and manifold with two more quick connects on it and it supplies a pneumatic can crusher that is mounted on the same board. The extra quick connect on the machine is super nice because it lets me leave my wall-mounted setup alone but I run my nailers off the filtered line. The nice low profile lets me sneak it under between my table saw and jointer. I think everyone would prefer having wheels to get it under or cabinet than to lift even the small 2 gallon hotdog compressors.

I'm glad to hear from someone who actually owns this compressor. So far, I've been using it for a few months and have had no issues. Seems like a great compressor and I hope I will have the same luck with mine as you have had with yours. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your experience with this compressor.

Congratulations on your new addition to the family a compressor and it's a boy it's blue, all joking aside Ken it looks like a very sturdy air compressor right now I'm using a harbor freight pancake compressor and it's needs a little bit of TLC but it does run and eventually I will have to get a new one and thanks for showing your new toy you have a pleasant day Ken

Thanks for the kind words Alan. My old compressor still works as well but you can tell it's tired and will give it up soon. This one seems to be a great little compressor and came well recommended. Thanks for tuning in to the show this week.

Interesting show but unfortuantely the Makita 5200 compressor is not available in Australia. It can be purchased on Amazon but freight cost from USA to Australia would make it prohibitive. We do have Makita products manufactured over here but seems not compressors..

That's a real shame John. International shipping can be extremely expensive. I hope you are able to find a comparable compressor locally. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

is oil or oil-free better? aside from convenience.

Kenny quick question, i lived in canada too but my garage only have 15 amps outlet and this draw power almost 15 amps, is it safe or does it work on 15 amps outlet?
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings Год назад
According to the Canadian Electrical Code, you can only load a circuit to 80% of its maximum capacity which means that for a 15 amp breaker, you can only load it at 12 amps. The Mac5200 compressor runs at 13.8 amps which is over the 80% but it is not continuous. Technically, it should be run on a 20amp breaker with wiring that is rated at that as well but to be honest, I have been running this on a 15 amp breaker since I got it and have had no problems as of yet. It is the only thing on the breaker and I don't run anything else with it. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in.

So far (knock on wood) I have had zero problems with this compressor and it has been serving me well since I purchased it. It's a little on the loud side of things for a small shop like mine but I love how well it works. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Just it have a soft start? My HF compressor doesn’t and my truck won’t let it start.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 2 года назад
As far as I am aware Steve, this has a soft start although I can't find anything official on that. I am strictly going by how the motor sounds as it "revs" up in the initial kick in. Are you running your compressor from an inverter in your vehicle? Thanks for tuning in to the show.

I didnt realize you could get a small compressor with such good specs. 3HP on 120V is uncommon and 6.5 CFM at 90, very unusual. My older Porter Cable is belt driven to reduce speed but the belt adds bulk - looks like this one is direct drive. Oil lub compressors are normally quieter than oil-less, so disappointing that it is so loud. 140 PSI in more than most, California Air Tools are only 120 and you may occasionaly need more. Thanks for alerting me to this compressor.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 2 года назад
The decibel level on this compressor is a little high but I can overlook that for the CFM output and the performance. I've had this for a few months now and it's been performing perfectly. I just hope that it continues to work well. Thanks for tuning in Woody and for taking the time to chime in with your comment.

I have a couple of questions. Did you specifically look for a pool compressor. Oil-less have been available for a long time, they don’t run as cool. Is the air tank steel or aluminum? I checked Makita’s web site, and could not find this information. It looks like a nice compressor.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 2 года назад
I didn't specifically look for this type of compressor Scott. I went with the specifications, the price and the reviews. The tank on this compressor is steel. I've been using it for a few months now for everything from nail guns to HVLP spraying and I've had no issues. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Appears to be a well made compressor. I have a pancake compressor from Menards that leaves me wanting. It was an inexpensive purchase to get a job done at the time. Also have a 20 gallon Sears oil-less that I like. Difficult to tell from the video is how loud your compressor is. With both of mine earring protection is preferred. Wondering if you have a decibel reading for yours?
@acutabove_woodworkings

This compressor, like a lot of compressors, is loud. In my small shop, it seems even louder and hearing protection wouldn't be a bad idea I believe this one runs at about 90db. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in Dwight.

Kenny, nice addition to the shop. How do you rate the noise? Seems like many compressors today are louder than the old ones. Looks like a well built unit.

I'm really curious about what you find out about a winter oil for your compressor. I live just down the road from you in Hamilton and my compressor lives in my unheated garage. There have been a few very cold January days when I need to add air to my tires and the oil is so thick that the breaker pops when I try to start the compressor. I didn't even know that a winter compressor oil existed. That seems like a good deal that you got on the compressor.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 2 года назад
For things like adding air to tires etc, in the winter I keep my old compressor in the house to keep the oil warm. I will be sure to report back on the winter oil and let you know how it works out. After all, winter is just around the corner. (I can't believe I just said that). Thanks for tuning in Jim.

I have had this exact compressor for over 5 years now and really like it. I am interested in your talk about the oil, I am also in Canada and work out of an unheated space and this compressor really does not like to start in the cold weather. I will be looking into a synthetic oil and see how that works out. Thanks for the content, always interesting and helpfull.

I’d be curious to know how well it works with the blow out attachment (blowing saw dust off a tool) my cheap craftsman compressor losses pressure pretty fast. It’s a 6 gallon single stage compressor. A little off topic, do you use the micro jig gripper? I just got two of them, I haven’t used them yet.

I have a blow gun tool for this compressor Randy and it works perfectly. I have a smaller one and a high output one. The compressor runs a little more with the high output. As for the gripper, I also have two of them and they work great. I did a review on them a while back and if you are interested in that, you can always search my channel for it. Thanks for tuning in Randy.

Hi Kenny, I just picked up this compressor this morning from HD in Ottawa. I’ve been following your channel for many years and because of this video, I am confident with my choice. I wanted to ask, after the 20 min break in, did you replace the oil? I usually do, with lawnmowers and snowblowers, so wondering your thoughts? Wish you well with your Makita air compressor. Cheers Bud. 🇨🇦👍
