I heard Kenny in 2000 for this first time...and was blown away that I had not heard of him before. Kenny you are most definately keeping the blues...you rock :)

I hate when people say that he needs to stop copying srv or get your own style, its music he plays what he likes and thats his style he just shares a taste of that with the likes of srv for him to play any other way would technically not be his style
@Texusify I picked up my heart off the ground today and I'm about to spill it out vocally, KWS, SRV, Joe Cocker, Buddy Guy... So many inspirations that I'm about to break this chair. Never mind it I'm just gonna get up and dance! Love what you just said!
@Texusify I agree. To say you were influenced by some one, I expect to hear the influence come out through their music. Nothing wrong with that. SRV took a lot of blues guys styles and licks and wove them all together into his own interpretation of the blues and was not afraid to let his influences be known. The icing on the cake is that he got to play with a lot of his blues idols during his short career. what a life!
So what if its obvious that Kenny is influenced by SRV? That's an excellent choice! Besides..EVERY time you turned around Stevie was covering a Jimi song!! Live on.. Kenny!
@yahdstickman i agree and dont. the chords are pretty much the same, its what they do IN BETWEEN that separates them. and when someone goes as far as to copy srv's "in between" its usually lame. not that kws always does that, but when he does its awesome. btw, this songs structure is close to "pride and joy".
i would have said the same but he is pretty good and has achieved an awfull lot. he comes across as very cocky but sure he is successfull so i suppose he has the right.
a monster no doubt. to be influenced is to to be human but find your own voice. stop stealing him blind. if he was alive you would have a law suit on your hands.
Don't think he invented it, dude. This man so clearly has borrowed from SRV it's unmistakeable. Stevie amalgamated many styles, Freddie and Albert King, Lonnie Mack, Hendrix, Kenny Burrell, played from his soul. This guy is a very talented poser. He's really good, but he's posturing SRV nonetheless. That said, I'd rather listen to him than JayZ.
Mr. Gerain, I lived in Austin during SRV's years. I know these guys. Chris Layton needs the work, and he loves the music--that's why he backs him. Have you spoke with him? He clearly indicates KWS very much has both hands deep into the SRV gig bag. Anyone who really plays guitar can tell you that it's one thing to incorporate some riffs, chordal progressions and voicings, rhythmic patterns of other guitarists --quite another to copy everything in their playing style. Kenny is damned good. Unlike Bonamassa, (same age, more British blues influences) he never does anything that hasn't been done before. It's hard for a Kenny-fan to accept, but true. For me it'd be like some guy in 2015, with sideburns comin' out singing Jailhouse Rock, or perhaps moonwalking and we're supposed to be awed by their talent.
HeavyMental Born and raised in La Grange, TX. Lived in Austin from 80-92 I won't claim I know they guys personally simply because I lived there. AS for who needs the money or not I'll make no claims there either as I don't really know. I am however a guitar player and do understand about influences, riffs, chordal progressions, voicing's, and rhythmic patterns. No ones in awe of anyone here but to discount one players talent because they use things from others in the past is silly. All musicians including SRV use or have used riffs, chordal progressions, voicing's, and rhythmic patterns from those who have come before them.
Right, but they don't COPY them! Kenny has adopted use of the same guage strings, high action, vintage strats. He tunes down a half step. He uses similar amps, wah, etc. He has the tremelo bar identically placed. He uses the same fingerings, two and three string bends, thumb and three finger fretting, he attempts the same right hand strumming, facial grimaces at the same point in a song. He uses the tripartite name, often with his initials on his guitar strap as SRV did in later yrs,..But if you think he's original, and don't see the diff between someone doing a few things out of one man's gig bag and simply doin' another, then you're not very discerning.
to bad hes good, he could of been great but got washed out. man he was playing with srv as a kid, such a shame he never made a name for himself, his main setback was he cant sing, you have to be the hole package to be any good.
