I absolutely love this guitarist. Kenny Wayne Shepherd is incredible to see in person and was so gracious to his band allowing them solos to show their stuff. Also, loved his tribute guitar style playing of Stevie Ray Vaughan and keeping SRV alive today. He played the Paramount Theater in Denver but it’d be awesome if he would do Red Rocks Amphitheater. That’s a venue absolutely deserving of this guitarist 👍

I keep getting on here and trying to send the message that he does need to hit up the Rocky Mountains, I'm between there and Albuquerque he's got a lot of eastern US shows in the next year and a half, and places like New Mexico are jumping up and down just about when anybody shows up because we're out here in the middle of damn near nowhere and it's pretty rare that we don't just get flown over. He still doesnt realize I'm his biggest long time fan. LOL. Come on Kenny, bring it back home to this side of I-35!

Thank you, KWS, for taking the time to show us lesser mortals how to play the blues properly. I’m gonna have to play this several times over for it to sink in, but I can say that this was far and away the best damned tutorial video on RU-vid. I hope you can find the time to do some more...

Saw him twice they burnt the place down. He and some others had a uphill climb after SRV's death being compared to SRV but KWS has matured nicely and has his own sound. Clapton and others had to prove themselves apart from the original blues guys in the 60's All are contributing to the blues survival which is the important thing.

"It's not that complicated, once you've figured it out" is actually the hardest part. You really have to be a student of the greats to just get to the point to strategize "figuring it out". Most of us have an ear for the "Greats" authentic sound, but deconstructing, and then reassembling into your own is nothing short of a tall order. KWS is a special dude to put it all together!
@crosscatch

He's right about this. However, maybe not clear about what he was trying to figure out. Took me years and then it was simple. I wondered what took me so long.
@reidjames6

Just think about the notes they play not the way they play it and go from there. Got me further than copying licks for sure. Once you break out of trying to fit licks you know into a sequence you don’t you’ll start to get it a lot more. From there it’s only years of practice ;)

I was at a Louisiana festival a number of years back with some friends, and they had a band playing at the main pavilion. I walked past, not really thinking about the band, because they hadn't started their set just yet. I was walking around with my GF eating a bit of food, and all of a sudden the band started. I heard somebody wailing away on guitar, and I told my GF that I *HAD* to go hear this guitarist, handed her some cash for rides and whatnot (she was also with her friends and didn't want to abandon them), and that I'd catch up with them in a bit. I get to the pavilion, and I see this blonde, long-haired teenager, wailing away like there was no tomorrow. I was like utterly stunned that a kid could play that well. After the set, I talked to the kid, told him how much I enjoyed his playing, and I asked him his name. He told me it was Kenny. Years later, I went to a local Kenny Wayne Shepard concert, got close to the stage, and thought to myself, "I know that dude. I've met him before or something," and then I remembered that long-haired kid I had heard previously. Yep. It was Kenny Wayne Shepard, rocking his ass of as an adult. Good memories :D.

@@jayjohnson5016 Thinking about this, the Festival was probably almost 30 years ago or so. He was probably in his mid to late 20's when I saw him at the Plaza. I'd imagine that he played a lot of festivals and such as a kid. Most bars wouldn't let him in at that age; however, notice that I said "most." :D. In some country/boon-dock type bars, I've seen all age groups, from 2 to 80 years old in the same bar. LOL! These days, I'm not sure if they can get away with that, although I'm pretty sure that will have to do with the size of the town and the local officials. :D

@saltpeter7429 Год назад
Yes, exactly. " nothing to hide behind". I play noisy guitar, Heavy Metal and punk, but I have always had the utmost respect from the players with a "cleaner" tone. The people where you can hear everything they are doing, and it is on the money and beautiful and inflective. Mark Knopfler and Ani Difranco were two players that kept my jaw hanging open, very tasty sound coming from the manipulation of their fingers, everything was purposeful, the length and vibration of single notes. Great players come from all over the map, but I do believe the best dont even have or need 3 channels on an amp. I'll see you later, I'll be hiding out on channel 3! Lol.

That was what struck me.. a very neat and tidy player who cares about precision in all the notes, knows his way around the fretboard completely but still has the musicianship and intelligence required to not sound like a dull guitar clone. The quality in his right hand cannot be underestimated in helping him achieve this.
