I'm a musician as well and from the same vibe town. We've had many amazing guitar players come out of Shreveport over the years but i truly believe that KW i is probably the best.😊😊
Well, he was his teacher way more times than reported. Kenny's dad promoted srv and his band for many dates in the Region and would give Kenny lesson after lesson from the time he was 5yo. Many people say he did that for anyone who asked him....Then SRV got so famous it was hit or miss for Kenny to sit with him. Now I read that and heard Kenny talk about it but those interviews are no longer on youtube. I do know Kenny uses the exact same string set up and low tuning Stevie used because stevie taught hum his reach would widen with off set size strings.
Influence.....Stevie gave him many lessons as a kid. Kenny's father was the one booking agent that got Stevie and the guys all their local gigs. At the Museum you will see the pics of little Kenny and Stevie playing together and Stevie placing Kenny's fingers into position. He taught him in lieu of fees for said bookings thus Kenny as we know him today. He rarely strays from those lessons however short they may have been. I used to work with Sue Foley back then and she used to say she wished she had a daddy like that cause she would love a lesson or two.....lol Stevie also gave him a guitar or two and often Kenny will travel with them.
I agree about Joe B. Kenny has the soul that Joe doesn't. Kenny is the BEST blues/rock guitarist on the planet right now. Self taught. Studied the blues greats. A mixture of them all with his own style. Absolutely gifted and amazing.
I always recognize a KWS song when I hear it, so that's his own style. Also, there is always one song on an album that makes me cry when I hear it for the first time. So that's his soul.
I think to be as honest as possible without being insulting, Stevie Taught Kenny lots of tricks and although Kenny is good, he is almost a carbon copy of the split scale stuff Stevie taught him. Stevie also gave him the lessons for free cause Kennys father booked SRV on hard to get gigs. Not taking anything away from him but please visit the SRV Museum to see the pics of Stevie and his wife placing Kennys fingers in position and attending his birthday parties. I guess you could say the rest he taught himself but if you ask him when he is alone he will tell you more......he is a nice kid and is pretty honest.
Because of Kenny's father he learned from the best. He is highly influenced by SRV and BB King as they showed him songs note for note. I watched him once at age 9 sitting backstage with SRV teaching him turnarounds. Joe also had lots of BB King help as Joes father used to do work on BB Kings gibsons. Joe is rock based and Kenny is Blues based so there is a feeling and execution difference.

That's absolutely one of the best guitar solos I've heard in a long time. Reminded me of Derek and the Dominoes era Clapton, which is one of the highest compliments I can give.

That effect is called volume. Sheer volume. The one effect that creates this kind of feedback when you're not overly distorted. And the one effect you're not allowed to use anywhere nowadays unless you are an acclaimed rockstar. ;-)

He's nearly there, just a few more years. He is probably older now than what Stevie was when he died though. That loss will never go away, you hear SRV everywhere in all sorts of players.
