Mohi's Diary Entry 9: We finnaly deffeated the United Cities, Tengu is dead. What remains of the Empire has decended into civil war, but a new threat has arrived from the North. The Dominion, former trade Partners of Emporor Tengu have taken advantage of the power vacuum in the Great desert, subjugating and enslaving the population. Why cant we fight the Reavers yet! Just when I thaught we could march south so I can rip Valmons horns off we have to stay put to fight this new enemy! Surely we must take some kind of action against the Reavers, they could form an alliance with the Dominion, resulting in us being attacked from the North and South. One on Sins generals have revently started their own Warband called the "Sardukar". The Sardukar are meant to Serve as a garrison for our new cities that we rule over. I have sparred with several of them, theya re good fighters, pherhaps I could start my own warband, specialised in attacking rather than deffending cities.

I have an Idea, can Mohi start his own warband like the Sardukar? It will be named the Black Marauders, made up of Shek, Southern Hivers and Cannibals. They will fight as Heavy Polearm Infantry with a few of them armed with Combat Cleavers and Spring Bats.

(Most awesome! Awww, Sin’s paying attention to Hiroaki’s mental health and well-being, that’s lovely! And also, very glad to hear you’re excited and have plans! It sounds like you’ve got some cool ideas and I very much look forward to them! Now, in parts, a story for thee!) Hiroaki was on a boat. It wasn’t a fancy boat, or a big boat. It was a small, slim metal rowboat, with room for maybe two people. Though, depending on where you wanted to put the fish, and how many, that itself might be a bit much. Hiroaki carefully ‘tossed’ the net into the water at his side, as practiced, holding onto the end with his left hand. Since most freed slaves worked in the mines or farms, there were only a few people with past experience in fishing. They’d done their best to disseminate their knowledge as much as possible with the community, however practice was what made perfect. And now, Hiroaki was practicing, with the hope of bringing home a catch. He let it flow down into the water, waiting, calmly, for many long minutes. Time ticked by, as he looked up into the sky, and simply… contemplated it. It was peaceful, out here on the water, just off the shoreline. It held an appeal, to simply be at ease while making a catch, or trying to. He liked it, enough to give serious consideration to making it a regular habit for non-practical reasons. Being able to relax while still, through the fishing net, being productive, just scratched a special place in his brain. And a decently sized fish or two hitting into his net, tugged on his hand. And nearly took the net from it, if he hadn’t fastened his grip and used his foot on the rope end. He brought over his right hand as well, focusing in on the catch and discarding his surprise, to ‘haul’ up the net, and found a nice big fish, flopping in the rope. He smiled. One fish was more than he honestly expected to get with his current fishing ability. And a big one to! It would taste all the sweeter tonight, knowing his meal came from his own hands. Helping ease the resource pressure on the community, in just one more way. After bringing his catch of one big fish in, letting it flop around on the bottom of the boat, Hiroaki ‘docked’ said boat, by pulling it up onto the sands, next to several others. No one owned any one boat right now, the most successful designs being communal, and the boats pulled up on the beach just outside of Zuri’s Refuge’s walls. A simple pier had yet to be constructed, mostly because more important constructions were being handled right now. It wasn’t the best possible situation, however construction took time, and they did what they could when they could. As he straightened up however, lifting his net with his weakly struggling catch, he saw Laru jogging up to him across the sands. He looked to his friend and security chief with a concerned look, though he relaxed a bit when she flashed him a smile. Only a little though, because he knew that she had something of enough importance to justify running out here over. “Hey Hiro!” She spoke, waving her left hand, prompting a nod from him in return as he walked towards her. “Hey Laru, what’s the problem?” he asked plainly, to which she shook her head. “Not a problem, just important. Sin’s here, and he wants to talk to you about something. He’s waiting in your office in the town hall.” She stated plainly, Hiroaki’s eyes widening. “Oh, um, right, of course. Ugh- could you-” He proffered her the net, which she took with a smirk. “I’ll handle your fish Hiro sure. Huh, a big one!” Laru proclaimed, getting a light smile from Hiroaki, before his expression turned serious again, walking back towards the nearby main gates. “Did Sin say what he wanted to talk about?” He asked, and she responded with a reluctant grimace. “Yeah. It’s the Dominion. Apparently, he wants your opinion on some records from Heft, and something one of their leaders said.” Laru seemed hesitant for a moment, quite unlike her, before continuing on. “Sin… thinks we might know where their base is.” She stated, and not for the first or last time that day, Hiroaki’s eyes widened.

The map was spread out on the desk. A bit awkwardly since Hiroaki’s office had been designed as a civil administration era more than a war-room, and he’d had to clear the desk of the many, many papers he had had and been studying. Because of course he had. But in the end, it still presented a clear picture of the overall shape of the content, the land that was known. And a small string of islands to the East, that drew his eyes. “… I think you’re right sir.” Hiroaki looked from the maps to the documents that Sin had brought him, seized from Heft. They helped give him some insight, however most importantly was the Daimyo’s own words, which alone might not be enough, but with everything else? It matched up perfectly. “Larger transport ships going to that area wouldn’t be easily spotted from our positions, and could potentially avoid the coast entirely. And if they have an outpost there, then they could certainly deploy from it rapidly enough to maintain supply lines and reasonably direct their forces.” He nodded with a grimace, before looking back up to Sin, who stood watching the map himself, calmly, with both Mirusaki and General Nibol present as well. The General’s arms were crossed, and gaze fixated on the map, while Mirusaki seemed to stand easier, silently. Joseph was absent from this meeting, which seemed odd to Hiroaki, less so for whatever other duties he might have, as there were a number of leaders who weren’t here, but he and Joseph often worked closely together. At the same time, Joseph was easily one of the busiest people in The Sands. Between architectural plans for Zuri’s Refuge, hunting down the Nexus, designing battle plans as Sin’s commander, and defending Hidden Sands, the man was exceptionally busy. His position as Commander was surely a taxing one. Speaking of military hierarchy, the general of the group growled, looking down at the map. “Skulking cowards. How long have they remained hidden there?” He asked, gruff question prompting a sigh and shake of the head from Hiroaki. “No way to tell unfortunately, not without more of their own records. Tengu went to great lengths to keep his trade deals with The Dominion a secret from the rest of the nobility. Or the extent of it at least. But that area was officially designated as ‘The Islands of None’ by the United Cities about six years ago, at least. I’d need access to geographic records to be sure, but it was declared off-limits due to danger and lacking in both valuable resources and long-term colonization value. It could be that even then, that was where The Dominion were creating their trading post. Or, perhaps military base. Or even colony.” Hiroaki muttered, grimace now well and truly pronounced. Sin nodded thoughtfully, own frown pronounced by the crease in his eyes, behind his mask. “This is a problem. Their soldiers are extremely well trained. Extremely well-armed. They are better than anyone we have faced before. The assault on Heft, was a difficult one…” Sin spoke, fists tightening. “Anvil was killed.” He finished. And Hiroaki blinked at that, shocked. He didn’t know Anvil well, at all, but the Sands were an elite fighting force, and it had been a long time since their ‘main’ group had been completely unable to save their members. Sin shook his head, before continuing. “I have plans. I already know how best to leverage our alliances for this fight. But this will be difficult, we will need every advantage.” He stated bluntly, before Mirusaki, for the first time in a long time, spoke, his voice quiet and calm. “What do the documents tell us?” He asked, to which Hiroaki recentered himself and sighed, looking back down to them. “Not much, they weren’t kind enough to put their overall troop numbers here. Interestingly, they lack the flowery prose of Empire Nobles or the subversive accounting of merchants. It’s more minimalist, more focused and direct. I’d dare say more military, though with an almost religious reverence to this ‘Shogun’ of theirs.” Hiroaki said, nodding again, this time more firmly. “It’s certain that their Shogun is the leader here. He has a very active, direct role in managing his Daimyos. And there appears to be a hierarchy, with the Daimyo Gado and Daimyo Hatamotos acting beneath the ‘Daimyos’ proper. Unlike the Empire nobles, these Daimyo appear to have a kind of ingrained loyalty, or far more a focus on it. But, at the end of the day, it’s this Shogun who’s giving orders. He’s the one in charge. And he’s on the continent, his report responses are much too quick for him to be doing this from overseas.” Stated Hiroaki, looking back up to the assorted military leaders. “He’s probably exactly where we think he is, where that Daimyo said. Here.” Hiroaki stated, pointing to Islands of None, what apparently The Dominion called, Toi Shima. There was a brief quiet… before it was broken by General Nibol, speaking in a voice far more quiet than usual. “My shekling… do you think she could be there?” Hiroaki blinked, looking back up to the General. Things were silent as he stared right into Hiroak’s eyes. He took a deep breath, braced himself, and met his General’s gaze with the gravity such a question mustered. “No. With what I’ve seen, my best guess, is that if she lives? She’s either in the still active southern portions of the Empire, The Hook or The Bonefields, or has been shipped overseas. If she was sent to Toi Shima, with how long ago that most likely was, I do not imagine they would have delayed her being sent to their mainland for sale.” He stated. Blunt, and painful. But as truthful as he could be. The General took a deep breath in himself, then focused on the map again, nodding. A kind of resignation on his features. Sin spoke next. “This Dominion… we will make them pay, for the suffering they have brought here. We will drive them from our lands and shatter their ambitions. Then, we will finally have freedom.” He spoke, his voice soft, but with a promised fury that had seen two mighty nations crumble before it. Hiroaki felt a chill go up his spine, even as he smiled. “I am most glad to hear it…” He stated, calmly handing the documents back to Sin, knowing that they would most likely be shared with the rest of the battle council and Joseph. Sin took them with a nod, before speaking once again. “Thank you Hiroaki. Now there is one thing more I would trouble you with before I depart.” He spoke, and Hiroaki gave a slight nod of interest. “Would you give me a tour of Zuri’s Refuge? The construction continues I know, however even still, a great deal of progress has been made. I would like to see it closer.” He stated, and Hiroaki smiled full in return. “With greatest pleasure sir.” He stated plainly, before walking around the desk, to show his ruler the haven they had helped make together. Them, Joseph, and so many others. The Dominion wouldn’t threaten this. No one would. They’d make sure of it.

Todays story: I looked upon the flames of the brazier. Anvil had died at heft, and while I didn’t know the man, he was a good fighter. I had looked at his file, similar to most. He had a bone to pick with the empire, and it was justified. He had died doing what he wished. Fighting those corrupt bastards. He was the only casualty, but it had been so long since we had someone from our little group die that it hit hard. It was, while morbid and painful, a wake up call for us. We were not immortal warriors just because we are so well trained. We can die all the same, and it’s been having me thinking. If I was to die, or at least my exo-skeleton, no one would continue on my quest until my brain is uploaded into a new frame, and that wouldn’t work anymore, as it has been… a while since the last factory went down. So I decided to take a pause on my work and make a download of my current memory core. I have stashed it in my laboratory and told only three people: Sin, Hiroaki, and Mutey. If something was to happen to me, I knew that one of them would at least give me a good rest, or continue my mission. If Sin was to have the nexus… he would become great. Once I had completed my memory copy, I looked back at the maps and documents that Sin had delivered to me. I had missed the general meeting back at Zuri’s refuge, as I was planning the funeral for Anvil, and was working on other projects at the time that needed my personal attention, but now I could look at them. I decided upon the map first, as it would be quicker to look at and then it would help me, hopefully, understand some of the documents… ---------------- It has been hours. I hadn’t known. I had made so many connections during my search that I had locked myself into my lab, refusing everyone until I finally figured it out. I knew where the nexus was, and who had it. And it scared me… Great episode Pat! It doesn’t matter how long it takes to make, they will always be amazing!! :D I would also like to make a recommendation for Joseph-0001, I would like him to get one of the Dominions chest plates, I love the look of them and I’m sure they would look great on a skeleton :) Oh, and if a named heavy weapon is available to be claimed in the future from them, I would like that also :)
