The only substance on the planet which Shuu cant cut through are his own eyebrows. They are that much conditioned by training. All of the Nanto Roku Seiken are requires to have eyebrows made of Kickass and Win as well as being and paired with epic mullets. Such is the nature of the entire HNK-verse. All the martial arts are powered by facial hairs or mullets.
Kenshiros unibrow is the most horrifying sight of 199X. The bikers actual fear that more than his punches. Raoh has even more intimidating eyebrows but he frowns so damn hard that his forehead creases eclipse sunlight, casting his face in eternal darkness. So far nobody has seen his eyebrows and lived. Toki, the Hokuto Prodigy honestly doesnt show very impressive browage but he is rocking that beard like a MOFO so he still earns the badass points. Souther grew the largest eyebrows so he could loophole himself into a crew cut. I guess that huge pimple also helps. The recruits who failed to develop sufficient browage could only qualify for the Supermall McDojo Nanto styles. With BS like the Bat Fist or the Getting Shot Out Of Cannon style.
+SlayerZaraki The anime/manga said many things many time. Yes, it has said that Toki has the most potential, but it also said Kenshiro has destined to un-parallel greatness -- including Kenshiro is the only one who can understand true sadness. Of course, also Raoh is the strongest of all....etc.
Chemicalkinetics There is a difference between a character making an assumption (like saying only Kenshiro can understand true sadness, which was later disproven once Raoh displayed the ability to understand it as well) and all of them unanimously agreeing, including Kenshiro, Raoh, *and* their teacher, that Toki had far more potential than any of them. 'Course, potential doesn't mean much when you get a dose of radiation from a nuke.
+SlayerZaraki "There is a difference between a character making an assumption" You mean like they all ASSUME that Toki has the greatest potential and then it turned out that is not the case? At the end of the anime, it was clear that Kenshiro has the greatest potential that Toki didn't even come close to. My point is that there are plenty contradicting statements in this manga/anime, and you cannot just focus on one or two statements. In the beginning, it is said that Nanto and Hokuto should never ever fight in any circumstance - an iron rule. Later, it was said that Nanto and Hokuto are destined to fight. Not only they can fight, but they MUST fight. At one point, Nanto and Hokuto fight styles are equally powerful. Later, it was clearly shown that Hokuto has already been more powerful than Nanto in thousands of years of history. Remember Souther said that he was sick and tired that Nanto successors live under the thumb of all other Hokuto successors? So what is true? In the first series, Raoh was portrayed as unemotional. By the second series, Raoh was said to be the embodiment of love. Kaioh blame Raoh was defeated by Kenshiro because Raoh has too much love. Lin then said that Raoh can defeat Kaioh because the love Raoh has. This is a manga/anime. The story is not written well ahead of time. Rather, the story is "written as it goes", which means that what is said in beginning may not be followed by the end.
Chemicalkinetics I'll give you that one. There are a lot of continuity errors that appear. However, Word of God has also held that Toki had by far the most potential out of all of them. It's even lampshaded in-universe near the end, when Kenshiro harkens back to Toki and mentions the difference between their potential. It should also be taken into account that we never got a glimpse of what Toki might actually have been capable of. He received a full dose of radiation from a nuke before the series had even kicked off. In essence, the Toki that we knew during the series was limited, though I will say it was a good thing he was. *If* his potential was what they hinted at, he'd have basically become a physical god. But, y'know, radiation poisoning.
He would have been like the 2nd person to attain Musou Tensei... Instead, it was the other two. (Sort of makes you wonder how he didn't understand sadness though...)
kelmorian178 No he didn't, he saved him because he saw a potential in him that he couldn't let anyone take away from him. He is the Star of benevolence, his destiny is to look over those who have a bright future in sight. Kenshiro's spirit awakened this destiny within him. Toki only wanted to step in because he shared a similar sentiment and also because they are brothers. Raoh brought him to this tournament specifically because he kept hearing that Ken was special and was destined to become the strongest of Hokuto Shinken. He and Toki brought him to the tournament to see exactly how powerful he was and if that superstition held true. In the end, it is by seeing Shuu outright blinding himself to save him that Toki and Raoh became convinced that he would probably end up being successor of Hokuto Shinken. Toki and Raoh weren't even interested in the succession anyways as Raoh simply wanted to fullfill his ambition trough power and Toki simply wanted to use Hokuto Shinken knowledge for medical purpose.
Thanks for elaboration. Didn't see reply due to YT fail notice. This show was wonderful to me because how deep they emphasize the human emotion and how individual gestures employ deeper meaning into each characters.
@@kelmorian178 Hoktuo no Ken is character drama at its finest. A lot of people I recommend this series to usually can't look past the sillyness and the Mad Max aesthetics, but it's specifically that character drama and deep character development that I'm trying to sell to people. Every battles these main characters have are not mere Shonen fights, they are philosphical debates between them through the art of the fist.
shu salvo a kenshiro, y me hizo llorar cuando shu se despide y muere en frente de kenshiro.....uno de los animes que me esta gustando recien lo esoty viendo...
In the original manga/anime I do not believe Toki was around which makes me wonder: if Shuu decided not to blind himself, then what? I don’t think Roah would have saved Kenshiro. I believe he really wanted to see what would happen even if it means Kenshiro’s death.
I believe this is a remake of an episode from the original run of the anime. However, I don’t remember any such scene or depiction of these events in the manga. There are very few flashbacks to their lives before the nuclear war that takes place. Most of the scenes with Kenshiro as a kid are in the second half of the manga and at that point, the story is kind of come-as-it-goes.
@@fujitafunk yes, it is a remake of a scene from the original manga. In the meantime, I double checked. It is quite accurate and is how I remembered it: all the same except Toki is not around. Shuu refuses that Kenshiro gets killed but no-one else interferes (Toki: absent and Raoh doesn’t lift a finger). Which is why I wonder if Raoh would have put his own life at risk to protect his little brother. Hard to tell: Kenshiro was gifted and could be a threat for his personal ambitions. Raoh also doesn’t know Souther’s secret therefore attacking him would be extremely dangerous for him and Raoh is not the kind of guy who takes unnecessary risks. Long story short: Toki would done that for sure but Raoh not sure at all.
@@missvai28 In this movie, Raoh later admits that he owes Shu a debt, because if Shu hadn't intervened, then he would've saved Kenshiro himself. Of course, these later movies are somewhat revisionist when it comes to Raoh's character. There is no sign in the original series or even in this movie flashback that Raoh was going to intervene.
@@harrydrake4173agree with you. Hokuto no ken is all about destiny most of the time. My take is that in the original source material Raoh would not have intervened in person but somehow wanted to check if « destiny » would intervene. I think he knew Kenshiro was special. And this is exactly what happened : Kenshiro « activated » Shuu’s destiny (star of benevolence) leading to Kenshiro being saved. This event (in my opinion of course) strengthened the idea for Roah that his little brother was indeed special. That being said, I am also not sure Ryuken knew about this. He was also strict about it: Hokuto and Nanto should not fight. So this is all done without him knowing and I am not sure Toki would have allowed this to happen either (which could explain why he was absent in the source material).
Yes, this was the Nanto Kumite, it's a "if you loose, you die" thing. Both schools were very friendly during Ryuken's time as successor. And his reign was generally seen as very peaceful among the prestigious martial arts. It's also why Shin, and Yuria were good friends despite being from the Nanto school. hokuto.fandom.com/wiki/Nanto_J%C5%ABnin_Kumite
Kid Stallone vs Blue Haired Mel Gibson. Van Damme angry and ordering Blue Haired Mel Gibson to finish Kid Stallone. Christoper Lambert appear to challenge both Van Damme and Blue Haired Mel Gibson. Blue Haired Mel Gibson blind himself to save Kid Stallone. Black Arnold only watching without do anything🤣🤣🤣
Actually, if you all think about it. Shuu did not just save Kenshiro, but more like he blind himself as a way of payment. I bet Shuu did so more likely because he knew if Southerner harms Ken, the whole Nanto sect will face Toki's wrath.
Shuu's skill was unreal. It's very telling Kenshiro had to resort to ranged attacks in order to fend him off (although I'm certain Shuu would have relented if he had to).
Mihail roah wanted him to fight to death with kenshiro as in to kill kenshiro to see his strength, but shu saw so much potential in him so he disobeyed roahs orders and blinded himself as if saying sorry but I won't do this.
Only Rei is missing from this mythical lineup. Where can I find this segment in english please? name/number of episode or something? this scene seems pure gold.
Kenshiro was doing the ten man challenge against the Nanto school. The rule however is that if the challenger is from another school (Ken being of Hokuto) and loses, he dies. Souther questioned Raoh as to why he brought Ken over, to see him get stronger, or to die. Raoh doesnt answer. Kenshiro senses Shuu's strength and reacts to it. Shuu sees this as a challenge and of course must answer. Dooming Kenshiro, whom would have otherwise fought another mook, to instead fight Shuu, who at this point is just far too powerful for Ken to even hope to fight. Doomed to die, he sees that Kenshiro possesses a kindness that was not present in Raoh (another Hokuto man) and sees that Ken is both capable of Fierceness and Kindness, and this awakens Shuu's Star of Benevolence, his own destiny. When Souther orders the rules to be followed, Shuu opposes this, as he has seen that Ken is destined for greatness and that no one should be allowed to extinguish his life. Souther, whom knows Shuu is the only one who can compete with him within Nanto states that even then he cant allow Shuu to break the rules. As a trade of sorts, Shuu offers Souther his 'light' his sight, in exchange for allowing Kenshiro to live. Souther notes Shuu's awakening, but Raoh stays quiet. What was asked of him, if he wanted to see Ken become stronger, or die here, remains unanswered... for now.
@@charleybrown8650 It's been 3 years but I'll explain it. Nanto users have a "destiny", it's a like a spiritual journey that fate MAKES them take. It's called "awakening" their star, its' when the world sets them on a path that they must take. They don't have a choice, they become instruments of fate. In this case Shu is the "star of benevolence", it's his duty to show kindness and compassion for those with a bright future who will do good in life. He may not know who or why he's saving someone, but the end result will always be that the person he saved will bring good/kindness/compassion. On the flipside someone like Rei, aka the "star of justice" is set of on a path to right what is wrong. Whenever Rei kills someone, they in one way or another deserve it, or need to die. Rei may not care who he kills or why he kills someone, but the end result is always that fate took him on a path to kill someone that needed/deserved to die.
