Celebrating 50 years of preservation, The Kent and East Sussex Railway, running between Tenterden and Bodiam, would mark the occasion with a 50th Anniversary Steam Gala.
The gala would see five steam locomotives in action with an intensive timetable of services along the length of the line, consisting of U Class No. 31806 (visiting from Swanage), Standard 4 No. 76017 (hauling her first trains since her visit to the Bluebell in 2022), Hunslet Austerity No. 25 'Northiam', and A1X Terrier No. 2678 'Knowle' double heading with Hunslet No.15 'Hastings'.
Alongside the action on the K&ESR, the Rother Valley Railway at Robertsbridge would play host to 70000 Britannia and 73128, running shuttle services to Northbridge Street, a small section of line which is hoped in the coming years to be reconnected to the K&ESR, allowing a mainline connection and to fix the missing link between Bodiam and Robertsbridge. The shuttle service would be the first train to run on the line since 2013 and would be a look into the future once the two lines would eventually be joined up.
Some of my regular viewers will notice that the video quality isn't up to the usual standard. This is because upon arrival at the railway, my main filming camera decided to pack up and was unusable. I was therefore limited to filming on my DSLR. With no idea how the filming settings work, the shots aren't as good as hoped, but it's still a record of what was an excellent show put on by the K&ESR!
