I enjoy and learn a lot from your analysis series, especially how you cover players like Kento and explain down his strategies for the general public. I would suggest doing more of these on well-known players like Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei, Viktor Axelsen, Chen Long, and others.

Kento's balance and control when he moves around the court is one of his great advantages, however when facing players faster than the like Ginting It's an aspect that influences your gaming tactics.

Kento Momota is every club coaches nighmare because he has his racket so low yet they are trying to teach the players to have the racket up lmao If youre curious, having a low racket is good for balance but only very advanced players do this because they have lighning fast racket speed, so unless you are a world class player, having the racket up is always the best way
@PritPachu
@PritPachu 3 года назад
Not sure I agree with you. Just because every club coach is teaching based on what’s been taught and accepted in the past, and what seems at first, on face value, the right thing. But obviously there’s something there. But you should take a closer look at the op players actually. You’ll se it’s very similar. See Lin Dan, Gade, LCW, Taufik. They’re ready position is similar. It’s more natural. And speed actually cones from being relaxed. You’ll see in fact that although the arm is down the wrist is slightly cocked at the point of opponents contact. KM, at that same point, just happens to not do that as much. Anyway that’s just what I think.

Looking forward to part three! Another question for you: many players seem to use pronounced wrist extension on their non-racket hand (particularly noticeable when extending their non-racket arm for an overhead). This would seem to be the opposite of Momota's method (and, having tried it, it doesn't feel very relaxed at all). Is this also a question of personal preference or are there reasons to use one approach or the other in a given context?

Superb analysis as always - thanks for the excellent video! I was always told "keep your racket up" (irrespective of where I was on court) >> given Momota's low racket carriage, would you say this is wrong or are there caveats to bear in mind?
@PritPachu
@PritPachu 4 года назад
I would say that it’s a reflection on how the game has evolved and how movement has and the physical component of the game (as in other technical sports) is playing a more important role. Sport is becoming faster higher stronger specifically because the realm of strength and conditioning across all sports and athletic pursuits is being studied in greater detail and is better understood. Tradition is being replaced with intuition and creativity. And also, it’s a personal style and doesn’t need to be adopted by all players. It all comes down to being yourself.

He's a master at conserving energy , not only from a technical point of view but also a tactical one. Kenishi Tago shared important points on his netplay technique, the stroke is basically made with the body weight not the wrist contraction/motion.

Hi not sure, but can you do Anthony Gintang footwork breakdown. Thank you!
@PritPachu
@PritPachu 4 года назад
Yes. He would likely be the next player I analyse. But remember that footwork and movement style are two different things. So it’s movement style I’ll be comparing where in the case of Momota and Ginting would be similar in that they both get very low but Ginting has a style suited to his physical strengths which no other player possesses. I just calm it footwork on the Momota video because people sometimes don’t make the distinction.

I would hope most of it! It’s physics so it is or it isn’t. It how I was taught by an Olympian friend of mine who learned this ‘new’ way from Gade and the more I did it myself the more it made sense. The principle is the same in most force producing sports like MMA. See Systema ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BRnQSYQZ6OI.html and DK Yoo

Hello Prit, nice channel. Detailed work. Want to ask you a question, i'm a beginner early intermidiate player, currently using 5u racket, but sometimes i struggle with my clear to backcourt when i'm late, on the opposite side i was using 3u racket before - clears were effortless, but by defence and flat game was slow. What's your opinion on racket weight? Shoud i train more to manage the 3u, or just accept what i got. I've seen most of the pro players are using heavy rackets... excuses for my eng
@PritPachu
@PritPachu 3 года назад
I would find an in between weight. Even balance mid flex. One good way to test this out is wrap some blue tac around the shaft of your 5U mid way up. And see how it feels. Adjust the amount of blue tac to get the right weight and also adjust where in the shaft you place it. Try different locations. Higher and closer to the head to make it more head heavy and lower in the grip for more grip heavy. You can basically leave it there and play with it if you like it. And adjust as you want.

Actually at 5:18, can you explain why his racquet actually goes towards the sides of the court, it does not go directly downwards
@PritPachu
@PritPachu 4 года назад
Great observation if you’re talking about the follow through after the hit? It’s because of the biomechanics associated with the anatomy of the shoulder torso etc. The arm naturally moves that way in a throwing action especially when holding a long object like a racket. The arm is naturally forward in the sense that this is why you can put your palm Together in front of you you much easier than you can do the same behind your back. We’re more mobile with arms in the posterior plane than we are in the anterior plane. It’s just how the musculature of our body is designed. Also the swing is moving more forward than it is downward by virtue of the pec muscles rotating the humerus in an internal rotation rather than the anterior deletion externally rotating it out wards. Hence why we’re stronger bench pressing or more simply, pushing, than we are at pulling. In other words you can push more force than you can pull. And elbow flexion is greater than elbow extension. And the rackets momentum is angular in the frontal plane.

Do Lin Dan. To me he has the most beautiful smash gesture and the smoothest men single footwork. Or LCW, both has better looking strokes than Momota
@PritPachu
@PritPachu 3 года назад
si w “better looking” and effectiveness are unrelated when both are being executed with correct foundational biomechanics. Just like you have a unique walking or running style not of your own creation, so a person will have a unique stroke not of their own creation. Almost every player is different. So a more useful critique would be whether a player is achieving the desired result from their stroke and footwork. By the way, saying footwork is ambiguous. The footwork and movement format is the same for the most part. What you’re actually noticing is overall playing style.

@franzkuntschnig1320
@franzkuntschnig1320 3 года назад
not really. it saves power since its head heavy and you feel that in your arm. he plays single and has much more time to place racket and arm. considering doubles its right, arms need to be up most of the time because its much faster. but in singles, every player has the arm more down an has long swinging movement which you simply cant do in doubles.
