Another reason to be conservative with spending is that you are setting precedents for future players with the expectation generally being that the amounts will rise. It will be interesting to see what the programs who are throwing money around now are doing in two or three years.
Yeah it will take his first season for recruits to see what kind of coach pope is. He is just now entering the prime of his career, and I'm sure he doesn't disappoint. And also it's proven already that if you are talented and you are a good basketball player your chances of making the league is ten time's higher if you play at Kentucky. No matter who the coach is.
I never expected to get AJ in the first place, he’s to much money and he doesn’t really fit the system I’d take him obviously but I’d rather have Jasper with Braylon and Maliki or even Acaden Lewis if not Jasper then go all In on Caleb Wilson if not him Tessofu
There's so much to take in and analyze is this new era of college basketball. So here's a question to the rest of the fan base. Would you rather have Jasper Johnson for 1 yr at 2.2 to 2.5 million or would y'all rather have Acaden Lewis for 2 to 3 yrs for 800k to 1.3 million. I'm not sold on 5 stars as much as everyone else. I look back at Tubby and I wouldn't have traded players like Fitch, Hayes, or Hawkings for anyone else in the country.
Pope style is shooting, spacing, attacking in that space. This requires specific skill sets. No more days of players who can only seem to, at this stage of their young careers, just create their own by that nonsense of...dribble dribble, oops, pass up a good shot for a bad one or worse, a turnover... til I get me mine. Pope wants guys who can shoot and/or get down hill off back cuts/screens. Ball movement, player positioning, then attack the defense, for "turning their heads". We should get tons of free throws off these sets. What are essentially iso/attack sets. That being said, going forward, recruiting 5 stars in specific, a lot of these kids nowadays wont fit the criteria not only as a basketball skill set fit but, their personal attitude as a team mate must fit, as well. Can't have these rotten/toxic apples in your locker room/barrel. Not making this kinda money. Gotta demand an ROI on somebody's money off these brazen young... businessmen. Nothing personal. Not even your 5 star rating...if ya don't fit. Best of luck to you, most times, in fact. These freshmen who we all know are oneday superstars just aren't worth their investment. Not enough bang for the buck dollar for dollar. Watch pope smoke these over invested Nil teams for a today's "pat on the back", in Sumner, instead of, in March.
NIL should have been hey you kids come here you can make money however we will give you the exposure and you are gonna make a ton of money because we are Kentucky. To promise these kids anything besides a scholarship and an education is dumb and the ncaa and Congress should have known better
Guys, I'm worried about our freshmen recruiting. It's not normal UK to bow out on a generational player. We could lose a top player from Lexington. We're gonna have to step it up ASAP. If Kansas or north Carolina can land AJ, we should be able to do that. How do they have more money than us? That's ridiculous

I'd rather have Jasper, Acaden Lewis, and Moreno over AJ 100000%. And long story short, when you watch AJ vs other 5 stars, he doesn't stand out near as much as what people think. Playing in the Utah circuit is much different than the Philadelphia, New York, DC, and Florida circuit. He's obviously good, but he isn't better than 3 other guys. If he wants to go to provo then he should go. I just hate the fake story with his dad, seems like a Lonzo Ball situation where dad is trying to bank out but put up the fake front of "kids best interest".

Everybody in the fan base still wants the pride of getting the five stars, Get over it, ! We had four last year and got beat out in the first round from a team with “0” fives. Name a team that wins NCAA’s with a dominant Five star KY won one out of fifteen with a true dominant five in Anthony Davis but he was a true two way player both defensively and offensively.
Why did they even start that nil. I get it they need to be paid. But pay them all the same 250,000 per player that's good money for students. And let them decide the school thenm but all get paid the same thing is I can't see players driving a Bentley to games while some drive a Volkswagen and Volkswagen has a Better game. I would rather have 2 or 3 more good players we can develop, then dump money like that on a kid. We will get more bang for the money. Look how UCON has done the last 2 years with none. They developed them.
