I sure enjoy watching your flights. My brother was a exec pilot fly Falcon 20, 50 and a Citation until he retired then he bought a Piper PA 30 twin and I would go up to his place in the summer and we spent a lot time on his Annual plus we did a lot of flying but he passed away a while ago and watching you all flying really brings back a lot of good memories , he lived in Al and I live in FL, which you probably can tell by my writing. I love the way you keep the engines sync and the way you and your mat tell what you are doing as you fly. Enjoy it for you all are really professional.
Thank you for the nice comment Tony....glad you're enjoying the channel! Sorry to hear about the passing of your brother but glad our videos take you back to fond times with him. :) We have some fun trips planned for the year, hope you enjoy them.
Enjoyed part 1 and 2 alot! Great times and fun video! I LOVE the growl of those twin engine's!!! Beautiful sound! Takes me back to when I was a young kid watching the old tv show "Sky King"! Way before your time. Safe flights!
310 Pilot You sure do have your very own Songbird & Penny, only FAR FAR BETTER! You've got the 21st Century versions of both!!!! You're a lucky young man, and more deserving than lucky actually as you work for what you have.
Just started following your videos. I really enjoy you both and the 310. This has been my favorite because I’m originally from that area....(dad was an IP at KPAH). I used to fish, boat and hunt that region....made me grew to love it. Thanks for the lake flyover!
Oh so beautiful Kentucky Lake! My Wife's Dad had many boats in the Marina for over 40 years! Paducah is our home although we live in Louisville now. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. And do come back soon! I worked for Illinois Central Railroad now Canadian National so Chicago is special to us also!
Looked like you had a very enjoyable fly-in. The rooms were awesome! Loved the boat trip and the sing along for a little ambiance! I guess Jaime was wiped from all the partying so took a little nap before your Aurora landing. You guys are one of my favorite sites to watch on RU-vid!
Glad you enjoyed the trip James! Thank you for the very nice comment! There are several good ones out there so for you to mention that means a lot. We will try to keep fun videos coming out.
2nd that observation; there are other aviation Vlogs to watch but... Kevin & Jamie have BY FAR the best ‘Air ❤️ Ambience’. Y’all are a GR8 aircrew & obviously we’ll-liked by your fly-in friends. Been to KY Dam, have ole war buddies in Louisville, it rained & windy our ENTIRE summer weekend there, drove w/tots in tow 😒. LoL
Kevin and Jaime...another great video! I can tell Jaime had a great time! LOL! She's a doll though! I watch a lot of piloting vids. I'm really enjoying watching the two of you adventure. Safe travels you two!
Another great video, thank you for the hard work that goes into putting these together...Fun, Fun, Fun...awesome weather and really nice destination...love that Aurora airport too...use to live near there, don't miss the winters one bit!! Look forward to your next flight!
Thank you Jim!! It does take more time than I originally thought to edit these but I'm getting quicker at it the more I do it. Glad you're liking it. I won't miss the winters either whenever I'm able to get back down south. :)
Thanks for posting. This is my old stomping grounds. Dad had 310 although we based out of Owensboro, KY he had business interests all over the Tri-State area and a relative in Mayfield. We often flew the Mooney then the 310 in to M25 for Sunday dinner with Grandma. Flew over KY Dam Barkley Lake area many many times.
Great video, Kevin and Jaime - thanks again for taking us on the adventure. Looks like a fun evening with the guitar player guy too. Keep flying and making videos! Looking forward to more of your adventures over the summer. If you ever want an additional passenger, I live 5 minutes from Chicago Executive. Just sayin'!
Thank you Stewart! We do have lot's more fun trips planned...just need more free time to get them all in. :) I'll try to keep you in the memory bank if we are just going to tool around locally.
I love your all’s videos!! Just started to work towards my private license and about to solo here in St. Louis at KCPS. Love watching you all. Can’t wait for the next video. Hopefully one day I’ll meet you all at a fly-in!!
Thank you Nick and congrats on starting your flying adventures! We are going to try to make it to the AOPA fly-in hopefully. Say hi if you make it down to the IL one coming up. Pretty close to you.
22:07 ... we lost one! 😁 Glad you guys got out and had some fun. Appreciate you bringing us along in both parts. That 310 sure is sweet! Love watching the landscape move on by pretty quick. Warm weather has finally reached the Northeast - the skies have been pretty busy over the house here on the weekends. Getting a sore neck looking up every few minutes. 😁 Can't wait to get up there myself one day! You guys are making me feel REAL old! 90's music is oldies now ... 😒 How the heck did that happen? I'm a 70's-80's child. We had alot of fun ... maybe too much fun. 🤘 Great stuff as usual, man! 👍👍
She was a tired pup after those few days! It's finally warming up around Chicago as well. Been a rough winter! I'm an 80's child and it's hard to believe that stuff is all 30 years old now....times flying. Thanks Smitty!
Yeah, seemed like this winter would never end over here. Then we had snow one week, and a few days later it was in the 80's! Gotta love New England. I still own a '86 Grand Marquis I bought 15 years ago for my now wife. Hard to believe that car is 32!! Still runs like a top - still lays a one-legged patch if you jump on the throttle. :) Still on the OE fuel pump, driveline, & power steering pump. 250k miles now. Wife commutes 70 miles per day in it for 3 seasons per year (gets parked winters, to avoid the "liquid car dissolver" dumped all over the roads). She's been good to us! My souvenir from the 80's.
Listening to the radio in my hangar I always get to chuckle when an out-of-towner calls in to KCUL with ‘Carm-e’.. I got my Private there years ago. Locals say ‘Carm-i’ (long ‘i’). Anyway, you (and yours) brought back many, many good memories. A clue is to listen to ATIS again for the local pronunciation.. But what the heck, we all know what you mean. We have been to Kentucky lake lots of times and had a house in the area at one time. My airport is 7ii3 10 W of KEVV.
Howdy Earl! Thanks for the heads up on the pronunciation. I will try to remember that next time. They had nice cheap gas. Unfortunately I filled up one side and the pump broke. That made for a left side heavy plane until I could get in the air and cross-feed the gas to even it out. Love the area down there around the lakes. :)
Another 2 fabulous videos enjoyed! I used to fly to 1M9 a couple times a year, great place to fly into as well. I am going to have to go back soon. Excited to see the next video! -Matt
you have a nice quiet plane with a smooth ride ,other comanche not so much lol surprised jamie dident ask u if u had the coffee made for her after nap ..should have a coffeepot ran from inverter n something on board for potty all ur videos are awesome can watch you both all day good music n video keep up the good work
Looks like a fun trip! Nice video. 👍 We went over to Lake Barkley, KY State Park with three airplanes (and friends) back in the spring. Called the lodge there and they sent out a van to pick us up. We plan to go back, rent a pontoon boat and hang out one weekend before summer is over. Yet another cool destination. 😬
Jamie, you must feel very comfortable and confident with Kevin's flying abilities, enough so that you can jump in the back and have a nap.... way toooo cool...…..
Cool video! Enjoyable fun flight, might stop and stay at Kentucky dam on our flights to or from Nashville visiting our daughter and son in law ( who plays with Mike Snyder Band). Enjoyed music, amazing all the good musician you run into. Take care, keep them coming
That trip to Kentucky Dam brings back memories of my early flying days. I flew out of Metropolis and Paducah airports and made many stops at Kentucky Dam. It still looks the same. And, as one fellow mentioned, you have to use the southern twang when you say Carmi (pronounced Car- my in that area)! Anyway, I just discovered your videos and have been binge-watching! Love the Bahamas trip!
It's a good one for the list. I'd also recommend Gaston's in Arkansas. Nice 3200 ft grass runway with cabins, boat rentals, nice restaurant and bar on the airport. It's a great one.
I agree! That was my first flight in a Comanche and I really fell for it. Not replacing the 310 or anything but what a fast/capable single. :) Thanks for watching.
Thank you Manfred! Glad to have viewers all the way from my birth country. :) Haven't been back since I was a baby. Need to get back over to your beautiful country!
I know it probably wasn't possible, but I would have loved to see your low approach flyby from the ground perspective. Great two part video! Jamie sings just fine for someone who may have had a few beers! Although I love the flying aspects of your videos I did enjoy the interaction at the lodge...good times. Was Jamie a little hung over on the flight back the next day? She looked nice as always regardless. Thanks!
Glad to see you guys got out on ky lake. You were also in my neck of the woods as Carmi is only about 40 miles from my house near kmvn. If you ever plan to end up in kmvn or M34 again I'd love to buy you guys a beer or an amazing ky shine😉.
Made me think of the "Vegas Vacation" Hoover Dam scene. "I'm your dam guide. Please don't wonder off the dam tour and please, take all the dam pictures you want. Now....are there any dam questions."
Nicely done, I always enjoy your videos. My wifes sister lives in Minooka so we fly in to Morris a couple time a year. Fly a Trinidad. Next time we get that way we'd love be a part of one of your flyins.
Thank you. I've landed at Morris before due to a line of wx blocking me from ARR. Nice airport and nice people. Let me know the next time you bring your Trinidad this way and if we are flying we can link up.
Do you have a map that gives you the airports along your route that provide you with gas information and the cost, as I noticed you mentioned going to another airport because the gas was cheaper.
The 310 just came out of annual, correct? Anything major? Also, what sector/ airports do you work, maybe my Live ATC app can tune you in. Appreciate your efforts to bring us along. Greetings from Belize.
Hello Daniel. It did just get out of annual. Nothing major...replaced 2 of my 4 exhaust stacks and did the 500 hr on the mags. We work Chicago Approach/Departure. All the planes in and out of ORD/MDW and surrounding airports. Thanks for watching!
Lol no deer on the flyby. Did a flyby in a queen air to Cecil Naval base when I was a kid. We rocked the wings and went vertical. I remember my sister threw up!
Ha ha...sounds like you had a more aggressive pilot than me! I'm a bit conservative on my low approach pull ups. I did catch a ride in an F16 once where the pilot really wrapped it around the tower!
Another great video as usual. I have a question for you. I notice you verbalize everything you do on pre-take off, take off, and pre-landing very well, but after landing you reach over and raise flaps what looks to be out of habit, why is that? I know over the years I've seen a few landing gears get retracted from doing the same thing. Just an observation.
Glad you enjoyed it Bart! I assure you that I am very cognizant of the flaps vs gear and always say it in my head prior to flipping (even though I verified the squat switch works). As a single pilot for a long time, I've never verbalized anything that I do in the cockpit until I started recording the flights. I figured it would be necessary (and interesting) for the viewers if I did. I guess I just never picked that part after landing to continue verbalizing what I'm doing. I will try to work on it. I love the tips/points of interest/etc that the pilots bring up in the comments here. It always makes me reconsider what I'm doing...one can never stop learning in this hobby. :)
It appears that you hand fly much of the flights, how well does your autopilot work in the 310? I have a cirrus SR22 and use the autopilot extensively. Just curious how much you use yours.
When I first bought the plane the autopilot worked great. It has since developed a bit of a pitch oscillation so I don't use it much. Waiting on Garmin and STEC to STC 310's with their new autopilots to make a decision on which modern autopilot to install. I do enjoy handflying but will enjoy getting a new autopilot as well. Most SR22's I've seen have great autopilots.
I really enjoy your videos. I live in Chicago and am planning on starting my PPL this summer. Any recommendations on an FBO or instructor(s)? Keep up the great content!
Glad you like them Tim! Good luck on your PPL. It really depends on where in the Chicago area you live. I've had a really good experience dealing with Illinois Aviation Academy at DPA. I know the owner (Bob)...really good guy.
I really like watching and listening to your videos.... I noticed on a lot of your videos during your flight, approaches and landings and a couple of takeoffs that your right mixture control is usually set a bit more towards rich then your left mixture. Why is this?
Glad you are enjoying the videos Alan! I generally keep the same fuel flow to each engine and in my plane it requires the mixtures to be set like that. The analog fuel flow gauge that is easy to see in the videos is off. I use the accurate fuel flow display on my engine monitor. I need to have them tweak the full flows eventually but it's not unusual for a twin to have all the knobs at slightly different positions.
Hello Buck, I've been asked this a few times. I'll try to address it in an upcoming video. Basically wanted to be able to carry 6, have two engines for water crossing, night flying, IMC, wanted de-ice due to where we live and normally aspirated. I looked at the options and narrowed down to 2 (310's and Baron's). After running the performance numbers and the fact that I like the looks inside and out of 310's better, I decided on that. Then it was just several months of searching to find a nice model with all the things I wanted. This one was surprisingly in the local area and after the pre-purchase, flight and agreeing on a price, I bought her! So far so good. :)
Don, I shoot at 1080/30fps. I get the audio from an aviation adapter I bought at aircraft spruce. It hooks into a headset jack and plugs into the camera.
Thank you. I really like what you are doing. I have always be fascinated with flying. I don't think that is something that I will ever do. If you are ever in Fayetteville Tennessee just South of Nashville let me know. We have a nice small airport. You would be a great story for our local access Channel 6.
This was our first trip there but we were really happy with the facility/price there. I'm guessing we'll be back again one day. Wish it was a little closer to the airport though.
310 Pilot I’ve heard about the wildlife problem on the runway too. It makes the Nashville news occasionally, with deer and geese being so abundant. I forgot to say one of you have excellent editing skills. I’ve flown a C-152 twice before, my friend did the hard work for me. HA.
Glad you found us and are liking the videos!! I absolutely plan to install the shoulder harnesses. Like a dummy I kept placing things ahead of them as they aren't cheap...like 2K installed. I opted for both props O/H'ed, WAAS the 530, engine monitor, ADS-B transponder, 2 Garmin G5's, etc. Then a guy I know just crashed his new Debonair after departure and got messed up much more than would have if he'd installed them. Long story short, I called my shop the other day and will have it done in the next 6 months or so.
Very neat to see this area from the air. I lived most of my life here until about 15yrs ago when I moved to Naples, Fl.. My son's house is about 10min from the Dam. Thank you for sharing.
Great video series! Glad your wife didn't "redecorate" the interior of the plane. Looked like she had a little too much fun the night before the flight home.
Thanks Frank! She's got a bullet proof stomach. :) It was primarily just a lack of sleep for a few days. She had to work early the day we flew down and didn't sleep a bunch down there. No such thing as too much fun....that's like a plane that it too fast. :)
Been watching you videos for a little while now. Just watched the Kentucky dam fly-in. On google maps they show the runway as 27 also. In your video it is 28. Did the runway rotate 10 degrees to the north some how? :-)
Additional question for you - the high speed low pass over the runway - that seems like an awfully risky thing to do - slightest error and you're down and skidding to a very bad end of your day. Or, is the ground effect keeping you off the runway?
Stewart, the high speed low pass is just over uncontrolled runways that are known to have a wildlife issue. It's common all across the country. If conducted safely (like my case) where I'm not skimming the concrete and have plenty of speed, it is very safe. If I had an engine failure, I had enough airspeed in reserve to get a climb to a safe altitude to be able to fly a normal single engine approach back in. Thanks for asking!
I am really getting into your vids! I especially like the atc aspect that you connect to ga. Something no one else is doing...might be your destiny, bringing us together?
Thank you Raleigh! It's fun for us to put our ATC spin on things when we have the chance. Glad you're enjoying it! The closer pilots and ATC are the better for everyone. :)
There are a bunch of different atc roles right? (Traffic, approach, departure, ground)...are you and jamie in the same roles? Qualified in all facets? In different centers? I imagine policy dictates you cant work side by side during same shifts right?
Yes. In the tower at an airport there is a local control (responsible for aircraft in the air and the runways) and the ground control (taxi planes on the ground). In a center, they primarily do high altitude stuff when you are in cruise up high on the way to your destination. They ask how your ride is and pass it along. :) At an approach control, you take all the planes from up high in all directions and put them nice and neat on the finals so as one lands and clears the runway the next one is touching down and you get all the planes from the tower and up to high altitude so the center can make sure they are having a smooth ride. Jaime and I have both done tower/ground before but are currently working at an approach control. Hope that makes sense.
