I have to say the bekko that you/your mate took was fantastic fish, the white was so clean. But I did see a goromo which was also a brilliant fish so for me it was those two.
That goromo was absolutely fantastic! It was one of my top favorites. They done get much cleaner. Fun fact about the bekko: it was a pond spawn the current owner scooped up once pointing it out at just a few inches and the previous owner almost got sick when looking at it and couldn’t wait to have it gone. Now it’s grown up and won many awards in its class and one of the best or possible the best bekko in the country currently!
Thanks Chris! Sometimes the videos just don’t show how huge some of those fish really are. The judges were quite impressed with the husbandry to get them to their current state.
@@stubbsaquatics6080 I like a Showa as well. A good frame and pattern makes quite the statement when swimming around. At least one which won its category was available!! But I need to put a roof on first. 😆

We looked at the climate of Kentucky. It's almost the same as Japan! If that's the case, you should not imitate the Europeans and stop the pointless, exhibitionistic summer KOI shows. You should put more effort into growth.
Kentucky had a unique climate for the U.S. and is also good for racehorses. I agree, the summer shows are not the best ideas when it comes to the koi. Do the Japanese only have shows in cooler weather? I will be attending a gathering where some fish will be auctioned off and many are upset that it’s going to be stressful for the fish as it’s the hottest time of the year for us in NC, bit at least it will be near the mountains. Still hot for the fish though. I am getting an rdf filtration system together so I can remodel my pond for better koi growth and overall health.
@@CapeFearKoi The KOI Show is an adaptation of our HINPYOUKAI（ 品評会 ） by some British people in the past. I hope that the HINPYOUKAI style will become more widespread, where everyone is more enthusiastic about feeding, caring about body shape and color and texture, and comparing and improving finishing techniques.I'm sure that if such an atmosphere becomes more prevalent, the timing of the event will naturally become more fixed, as everyone will not want to be disturbed during the summer growing season.
@@atsuminaoki9910 very interesting. That’s the exact gathering we will be attending this coming weekend and is being put together by the Carolina chapter of the ZNA. There will be seminars and discussion of proper filtration and feeding techniques to grow them big and healthy. It’s not a koi show, but a gathering of hobbyists. The only downside is there will be some fish there to be auctioned off to raise funds for the ZNA club and it will be hot, but I’m sure they will do all they can to ensure the fish’s well being. Fun fact, our Local ZNA president is the son of the person who formed the first ZNA in this country.
I had no idea Louisville had a koi show. I live in East TN and would've loved to go. I've never seen koi that nice in person before. Any other events in the South this summer?
That’s too bad! They have an annual show and I believe it falls on memorial weekend every year. I know there is a Tennessee gathering on the 12th(pretty sure) of this month but will double check. I think it will be a decent turnout and the director of the Louisville show will somehow be associated with the upcoming event. There will be a few other events and the closest to you may be Greenville SC this Fall and I believe there will be an auction July 31st for koi as well as a vendor being Bristol Koi. Need to check and confirm all that.
