Hi Dan. To do the thing properly you really need the correct test equipment: an oscilloscope, signal generator, freq. counter, etc. and follow the procedure along in the service manual. My video was the quick and not so accurate poor man's version of frequency alignment for AM! :-) You can adjust the USB/LSB as well, but the settings are more critical than for AM, so the test gear is necessary...which I don't have. I only use the rig in AM for SWLing purposes on the SWBC bands. So, if you haven't got the gear, then trust in your "musical ear" to see if you can get it any closer. The adjustment on the trimmer cap on my unit was very touchy! If there are serious problems with the freq readout, then taking it to a technician with the correct gear is probably the best option....just depends on how badly out the readout is. Good luck.

Jojo, I don't listen to SSB much for listening on the R500, mainly used for AM SW BC stations.... unless I'm interested in getting rid of adjacent channel QRM - then I will tune in on either USB or LSB, depending on which side of my wanted AM signal has the QRM. If I'm using the amateur bands, then I'll use my Yaesu FTDX3000 rig. On the R5000, I think the stock SSB filter with the rig is 2.4 kHz, which seems fine in most situations. 1.8 is getting pretty narrow, so personally, I probably wouldn't get that one. Hola Carlos. El volumen del beep no se ajusta del panel delantero. Puedes ajustar el volumen de la beep, pero tienes que abrir la radio. El control del beep en IF circuito. Busca el componente VR8. Puedes ajustar el volumen al cumplir el VR8. Además, puedes bajar el volumen de VR8. Si no conoce los asuntos técnicos de radios, debería conseguir que un tecnicista de radio haga esto por usted. Ray Bokor It could be many things. But you need test gear to properly ascertain the issues.

I flipped mine over and found the 1uf cap c12 blown. That blocked all of the signals from coming in. Look on the schematic where the antenna is coming in then locate C12.
