I really liked the video and it is way more helpful than the manual. For those who like written instructions I have transcribed the following from the video: Kenwood TM-281A Non Standard Repeater Offset Programming Step by Step Please note: If the memory channel is named alpha numerically then the Transmit / Receive frequencies do not show on screen. The mic keypad entry needs to be programmed prior to following the instructions below. It is not possible to modify the saved information. If you make a mistake the entire process must be repeated. 1. Press VFO button to ensure you start in VFO mode 2. Use mic keypad direct entry method to enter receive frequency i.e. 146.415 3. Program the transmit PL Tone for repeater by pressing F button then Menu dial 4. Rotate menu dial to go to Menu Item 2 and then press Menu dial to enter Tone menu 5. Rotate menu dial to enter Tone frequency i.e. 141.3 then Press F button to return to VFO mode 6. Turn on Tone by pressing F button and then Call button. T appears on Screen 7. Write to memory by pressing F Button and then rotate menu dial to desired memory channel 8. Press MR button to write to memory channel 9. Press VFO button to ensure you are back in VFO mode 10. Use mic keypad direct entry method to enter transmit frequency i.e. 147.415 11. Press and hold MR button until you hear beep 12. Using MR go to the previously saved channel and +- will appear on the menu to indicate a non-standard offset
Just got me one of these radios as my Yaesu 3100 gave up the ghost. I had borrowed one of these radios and fell in love with the Kenwood. W Rusty Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee
Hello, I have a Kenwood TM-281 and I need help to solve this problem: pressing the microphone causes the screen to turn off and reappear with the equipment identification and a high-pitched double beep. What I can do?
I'm trying to do the same mode in mi Kenwood TM-731a , and it doesn't work. Do anyone know the correct sequence for my transceiver? Thanks. HUGO CE3PGH
Have followed your instruction carefully but still doesn't trigger our repeater. PL tone is 82.5, tr-146.000 , tx-146.625. Is there other function inside menu? Thank you
One other thing to check is whether or not you have a receive PL tone programmed in. In most cases you DON'T want a receive PL tone programmed. If the repeater is set so that it does note re transmit the PL tone this could cause you to not be able to hear the repeater even though you may actually be keying it up. Other than this, if you have followed the video and have to correct info for the repeater you are trying to access I can't think of why this isn't working for you.
I followed these instructions word for action and is was a bust. I cannot seem to get the freq setting to set as memory. I have been at this for weeks.
